[ZOOM] Fold top pair dangerous board against aggression

Hi again.

Just recently played this hand where my gut told me I was beat and I folded. Interested to hear any input on what I could've done better.

My analysis:
PF: 3BB raise (although I should've done 3.5BB as previously instructed :)) is good. Call minraise is also ok.
Flop: Villain opens with an over pot size bet. I think call here is justified as his PF play might've been to protect his hand with some random Ax hand or KJ even and what he did here is a CBet trying to get me off the hand.
Turn: Diamond shows up on the board. Considering the villain may have reraised PF with AA/AK/AQ/KQ (or even QQ [or something like QT as people at these limits appear to often do]) and the possibility of a flush, I think it's the correct decision to fold here. Had I called, I would've faced the same tough decision had the card been a brick and the opponent continued to bet.

Let me know if my decision to fold was ok or not. I think it may look to be on the side of over-cautious, but based on my limited experience of the NL2 games, I'm usually beat here.

PokerStars - $0.02 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 149 BB
SB: 164.5 BB
BB: 89 BB
UTG: 48.5 BB
MP: 102.5 BB
CO: 109 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♠ J♦

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, BB raises to 6 BB, Hero calls 3 BB

Flop: (12.5 BB, 2 players) Q♦ A♦ Q♠
BB bets 15 BB, Hero calls 15 BB

Turn: (42.5 BB, 2 players) 5♦
BB bets 20.5 BB, fold

Spoiler

BB wins 41 BB

I realize I have the 2nd-to-nut flush draw (provided there's no FH or quads). Maybe pot odds would've justified a call with the occasional double barrel bluffs by the opponent.

I can't fault the fold.

I would consider 4Betting pre -- but it would depend on what I knew of the BB

I'm curious to read what the real experts think though...

I had no stats on the opponent. Just switched from 888Poker to PokerStars (as PS client seems to be much better in terms of speed and performance on my Windows VM for some reason than 888), and PokerTracker HUD doesn't show up on PS Zoom. :(

So yeah, I was going by no information and assumed the opponent had what his actions would've implied if behind them was a rational actor.

pokertracker HUD is supposed to work on zoom, i use it.

villain's sizings don't make sense, it seems to not be a rational actor and thus i'd be inclined to call down my stack.
fold it on the flop if you assume the 3-bet range is "trappy" (it's not unlikely that you'll have to call down your stack after he bets pot on the flop, or that this line means AK+).
however, a button clicker's range can actually be quite wide (worse Ax, draws, junk) and, if you were sufficiently ahead on the flop, the turn doesn't change much - it's mostly good for you, as you gain equity against many hands that you were behind against (AK, Qx)

Thanks Tomaloc.

I'll need to investigate why my HUD does not work. I have all of PokerStars runnning, PokerTracker with "Start getting hands" enabled" and HUD started in PokerTracker. There's probably a solution online if it works for you. :f_thumbsup:

You can always make a thread about this in our Pokertracker forum. Than you get feedback of a Pokertracker supporter. I expect you run the PokerStars software as administrator and you use the English version.

Cheers,

Thank you for your help. The problem I had with the HUD got resolved after I restarted the PS client. All good now. :f_thumbsup:

Maybe 4-bet bluff pre-flop since his 3-bet is small and AJ has blockers. Villains flop bet seems polarized somewhat makes me think he has either the nuts or some sort of draw. Idk if many villains would overbet the pot on the flop with a Q here having trips. This makes me think his range is mostly good drawing hands and some Ax in his range. Hero getting 3:- on turn meaning we need 25% equity. I am thinking we might like Heros hand because you have a good flush blocker and an ace making it less likely for villain to have one. I might consider calling turn and re-accessing river
