ZOOM flopped straight vs. possible scare cards on turn and river

I think you played it well with the straight. Off course if you face a raise on 1 point you could get in a ugly spot, but i expect you will miss value if you check on 1 point.

I like the half-pot -- especially after the board pairs.
It says, "I'm not afraid of the paired board -- go ahead and call"

Once the board pairs I like that you don't turn your hand into a bluff -- that would fold out too many hands that would call -- such as KQ, AA and so on, but it would never fold out hands that beat you.

Since you're both quite deep, that would have to be a decision to make at the time.
KQ type hands might rarely overplay like that, and AA might also.
You block JJ and the T blocks other straights, which leaves only QQ, KK and 88 to worry about, and opponent's play is consistent with those hands.
In short I would make a crying call on the river.

Somewhat questionable if there is value in betting river but probably general opponent on NL5 is calling enough weaker. Versus raise its easy fold. You would lose to any sensible value hand and you dont block those at all.

For Vorpal post above KQ would actually be main candidate for bluff raising river as it does block hero from having K9, Q9.
