not a fan of the loose limp UTG, but it worked this time... I guess...
Bet Flop
Bet Turn
Then all-in on River is no brainer against his stack size. :f_thumbsup:

Versus players that play these stack sizes, I think they are often shoving here with any pair into your weakness.

1. Why are you limping pre?
2. Why checkback flop?

the opponent was a complete fish, I think the table was passive and I can see a flop IP versus a fish. My goal is to play as many hands IP against the fish as possible so I can stack him when I have a good hand, I didn't want to raise because fish is going to call and there is no fold equity after the flop, so I limp with suited gapper and predicated my chances at seeing a flop are good because no one was raising or really calling much at all besides fish in BB. Sometimes if I wait too long for a good hand it never comes before the fish is broke, trying to get his stack before someone else does. If I thought I would be raised pre I would fold instead of limp

If he is complete fish then you should just open wider, maybe even reduce opening sizing(if you open for 2.5bb+). Point is that you want to isolate(=play heads up) fish, not share him with other players. T8s is not your standard open? Who cares - you should't be concerned as long as you dont see anyone adjusting to you.

Just raise or fold pre-flop. If you limp from UTG is a decent change you play out of position. This time you get lucky and everyone is folding.

What would be the plan if you face a decent raise pre-flop from a villain that has position on you?

Cheers,

5way I think it is easy open pre with the fish on BB. On this flop I would bet, I think there are many things that can call you, any pair, draws, gutshots. You can bet turn bigger, like 4cents. I think you must call River vs this type of guy, he can have weaker twopairs and this is just 30bb not the whole stack jam.

Naah man you either muck it or raise it preflop!! It is very good if you recognize the fish in the BB and are looking to play pots with him, and are willing to open up your range for that! But limping does very often not result in a pot where it is you vs the fish.

Casey55, If I would have position on you, (and actually also out of position) I would raise you anyday with hands like T9s, JTs, QT, QJ, K9s, KT, AT, and a lot more. A lot of better hands that when they contain a Ten, they have you crushed if you flop a pair.
In that sense, free cards like 7♦:6♦: would be a less worse limp (and even then you are dominated by A6s/A7s), but still a bad one.

It is only when you raise, that you can represent a very strong hand after the flop. If you do not raise before the flop, people will less often believe you if there comes a high flop and you bet the flop. Or where you not planning on betting a lot of flops?

Now your hand would be perfectly disguised if you would have raised preflop. If you raise preflop, people will less often believe you have medium or low cards, because they think you will have high cards very often (and they are right in that) So, if you do hit a flop very good with T8s, and you raised preflop, you have a better chance of winning a big pot because people will less often put you on this hand. Whereas if the flop comes high, and you raised preflop, more people will believe you can have something.
So by raising T8s preflop instead of limping it:
- People will less often believe you when you make a strong hand on a medium high flop
- People will more often believe you when the flop comes high and you bet

The result of this is that you have more ways to win the pot postflop, or maybe even preflop.

-----

Let me add:
In multiway pots, when you have a strong hand, people will much less often pay you off with a worse hand. Because the chance that they are beat vs multiple opponents is much higher than vs 1 opponent.

So heads-up you can much more often win bigger pots then when it is multiway, even though more people put money in the pot preflop.

Let me add:
You can win a pot at any point with betting or raising, but by calling you can only win a pot at showdown.
