I guess my question is: Do you always fold 99 in this spot?

MP has 45%vpip but could have woken up with a decent hand.

I would have called the UTG 16BB shove, if there wasn't a 3bet.

It depends on the phase of the tournament as well and if this is a freezeout or a PKO for example.
Normally I would fold 99 against a 3bet shove as well. You are flipping at best against the 3bet shover I think or you expect villain could play lower pocket pairs like this as well.

I think to resuce variance it is a fold, but if it was micro Stakes and huge field I would like to push

Even than it really depends on the situation and the villains you dealing with.

Thanks for the reply guys, it was a bubble moment for a day 1 (top 12% enter day2) with a $15 buy-in.

Sometimes I am in doubt, if I might play too tight, sometimes too lose (respectively folding or calling in this spot)
I would have happily called when I knew the hands that Villains had.
And I guess the play-out (hitting quads) was lucky anyways.

Also, when I would have called instead an won the hand in that scenario, that would have given me a top10 stacksize for day two, instead of the one I got now... And that would have made a huge difference.

That's always the danger of result orientated thinking. You need to think what kind of range of hands the 16bb shover would play like this. Idem for the 45bb stack shover.

Thanks for mentioning that SDK :f_thumbsup:

I gave both villains a tighter range (including higher pocket pairs) in this spot, so I'm happy with my fold.
But, my unhappiness when looking at their actual range is stronger than (and overrules) that good fold happiness... :f_mad:

Working on that :f_drink:

From the collected sayings of Vorpal Swordsman
A good fold is a good fold no matter what comes afterwards

And that was a sensible fold

That's indeed always tough. The mental game after folding the hand and you hit quads in the end
