Hi you all!!

I'm one of those players who quit years ago and are now back to try again a bit older (and hopefully wiser..)

I used to play cash micros No Limit Holdem 6max (nl2-nl10) and dreamed to be poker pro at some day. And I was grinding and studying a lot in those days and improved my game some amount. But my biggest problem was tilting and that was the monkey in my shoulders what made me stopped playing then. I think my last game was somewhere around 2013. I was mentally exhausted and it took years to even think poker and not to feel sick. And there where also some personal life and mental thing struggles during that time too.

But now, over 10 years passed by, my life is good and I'm a happy family man. Dad for two little princess (2 and 4 years old) and a husband for a wife who was there when I started my original poker tilting 2011-2013 :)

So what now?

I wanna study and play again. And I wanna see have I been improved my mental game at all. Or am I still a spewwy tiltmonkey all over again

Now my time is more limited, full daytime job, children and a own house. And I just found out that I would love to play MTT:s

I deposit 50€ to Pokerstars before the summer (april maybe?) and started to play nl2,nl5 cash games at first. I got my bankroll to 120€ in a relatively short time (upswing I guess). Then I discovered GGpoker and deposit there another 100€ for cash games just to try the field. I played those honeymoon tasks and got a few tickets for tournaments. One of those was 50$ ticket Global millions bounty edition. I thought that why not to try it and got through day one with 125$ bounty collected. Second day was a flop and I ended up to cash "only" 91,50$ plus a few bounty. So over 200$ more to my bankroll, sweet :f_love:

That was a less than a two weeks ago and since then I have been sacrificed my sleeps more than a few nights with tournaments and I can assure that body of 43 year old is not the same as 20 or 30 year old 8-o

So I'm thinking that maybe I should start my learning path in SNG-tables first, win maybe one million and let go my day job, retire my wife and then go back to long MTT nights?

Whadda you think? Is it a solid plan?

Anyways, playing feels good and there have not been any tilting signs. So, I'm not taking cards too serious this time, playing with smile on my face and I'll stop it if it's affecting negatively my personal life at any way.

Hope you all good weekend and fun and profitable grinding! Catcha ya at some day again :f_drink:

I don't know, depends on what your "day job" is. If it sucks, sure, give it up and start grinding NL5 on Tigergaming; if you like your day job, keep doing it and excel at that I guess. Doing both I think is a bit tough. Maybe you can somehow connect your job to poker and poker to job. That is also possible. All the best :f_thumbsup:

Hi smice12!

It seems to be somewhat popular at the moment to return to the poker tables after a "little" break, myself included. So welcome back. :f_thumbsup:

I think you should pick what you like and stick to it. Your plan seems solid, million sounds reasonable by end of the summer so get your sleep schedule ready

Haha, yes, same story here.

One of the first things you have to decide is: which game type fits you best and do you enjoy most.
Bouncing around from cash tables to SNG to MTT and even other variants (GGPoker has a lot of them), won't help in your focus to improve.
All those game types have different dynamics and require different approaches and plays.

If you like to win big pots, MTTs will be your games, but it requires a lot of entries and there are usually only a limited amount of tournaments available.
What are you going to do when you're out and there are no MTTs available. I ended up in playing higher stakes or bounty or so. Or even re-entry. Not what my intention was.

My day job is quite ok at the moment. A bit boring sometimes but I can do it 95% time from my home.

Tigergaming? First time to hear that, soft fields in the micro NL you say? Hmm.. Well my first love was, and in some way still is, cash games. Need to check out that Tigerplace. Thanks for the tip :f_thumbsup:

I like the sound of a million bucks end of the summer :f_love:

But yeah, need to decide at some point what my play is, but now maybe I just have fun and test different things.

True that :f_thumbsup:

But I think I'll go and test different things now. I don't have a clear goal at the moment for my poker journey. And I don't wanna take it too serious as I did before (I really wanted to be a pro, but I wasn't ready with my mental side). That "serious wanting" burned my fingers at that time and now I just wanna take it cool. Easy, having fun, learning, testing and maybe, maybe making some side income (that would be a nice plus, but not all the story).

I think coming back to tables has also something to do with a "shame of playing poker" or "shame of what ever you want to do whit your life". When I first started, I didn't wan't to let many people know what I was doing. I was afraid that even my closest friends or family would judge me of "gambling" my money and life away. But now, getting older and giving a less f**k what others think, I feel more free to do what I want. I'm more free to follow those inner feelings and take action if I want even though someone would judge/laugh/fart on me.

Oh, and does anyone happen to know are there any Finnish community still left? In my early years there was a quite warm and nice active community even when Strategy stopped hosting it..

Anyhow, today I'm hitting tables for a while after grilling and a few beers :f_drink:

Greetings from melting Finland, it's way too hot here.. :|

We Estonians can't play at Tigergaming anymore, but once was a beautiful place where you could 36bet people in Fixed Limit cashgame at $3/$6 Definitely go for Tigergaming if you can, I hope they provide small stakes NLHE.

Monday and start of my last holiday week!

Saturday night I was playing some tournaments and cash tables. And I had my grilling with some beers and some wine.. And as you can imagine, my play was waaaay relaxed and swingy :yaoming:

I lost maybe 20 bucks, stayed up until 3am and felt a bit tired in the morning. But there are no mercy for daddies, had to woke up at 07:00, do breakfast, play with the kids and when they were having their daily naps it was time to clean up and prepare food etc etc..

I was wondering should I also film my sessions, like a pokervideoblog on youtube. That would be interesting, at least for me  But how to do it? I wanna record my face and my screen. And I have a Mac. I could use Quicktime but those file sizes are just huuuge.. And I don't have external camera (mac hd camera is just crap..) and no external mic. Where to start?

Anyhow, have a nice week and enjoy your games!!

The most popular option is usually to stream your games on Twitch. But whether you do live streams or record your videos for later use on whatever platform you like, a good software to use would be OBS Studio, which also easily enables you to record your stream.

I assume your PC has a built-in mic, if it has a built-in camera? In general, if your camera and mic are good enough to do video calls, they should be good enough to stream. And even if they are not, you could stream without showing your face, only doing audio commentary. I have even been to poker streams that had neither a mic nor a webcam, and simply communicated via live chat. Personally, though, I think you should have at least some audio commentary.

Cheap mics and/or cameras should be relatively easy to get, however.

OBS is probably the most commonly used software out there for Twitch streamers. It can seem a little intimidating to get started, but there should be plenty of guides and discussions available.

If you're still struggling a little, feel free to reach out to me. I have hardly ever streamed myself, but I have helped out other people with their streams before. Ah, and definitely share your Twitch channel here once you are ready. :f_grin:

Another free and simple option for recording might be videosoftdev's screen recorder. I happen to use that myself sometimes. But OBS will give a lot more options and probably most commonly used like Harrier said.

It also helps that OBS is open source, which at least for me is a big plus. I have tried a few other screen recording tools during my university days, most of them seemed to be proprietary, and often they were free versions of paid products, so you may have to deal with watermarks and the like.

Here are some graphs from my GG 6max nl5 cash games. There are about 1k hands missing, I think.

Spoiler

Well, hmm.. Just thinking that maybe I should do some challenge for my cash games. Bankroll challenge? Hands played challenge, moving up challenge.. ?

I recall that I had a 1k bankroll or moving up to nl25 goal at 2013. Should I try that?

I really would like to play tournaments, but there just isn't enough time at the moment in my life. Except nights of course but oh man how crappy I feel in the mornings at 06.30..

So ok, 1k bankroll or moving up to nl25 challenge it is. What would be the timeframe for that?

- I roughly have 1-2h play time after kids are sleep. And maybe 4 times in a week.
- So weekly play time would be around 8h or less.
- I play 2-4 tables at the same time.
- Let say that one hour in one table you play around 80 hands so in a week I could play prox 2500 hands if I 4 table every session.
- And from middle of November until end of the December I'm working in Germany 12-14h days so no playtime then.
- So I have 3 full months left this year (30k hands)

My bb/100 is at the moment 11.37. So every 100 hand I'll get 0,56$. In a week it is 14$ and in a month 56$. My bankroll is 165$. To move up nl10 (250$ roll) would take 2 months.

Bb/100 rate at nl10 is maybe 5bb/100 = 0,5$, in a week it is 12,5$. So to move up nl25 (1250$ roll) it would take 80 weeks!! 1,5 years.. Uuh.

And those bb/rates are just assumptions, I could go in my next 10k hands down to 3bb or less. Or just have a really nice upswing and reach the goal tomorrow.

Soooo...
Break it down like that made me feel first like ooooh wowooowwwoo!! No way, too long time.. and too much variable things in my life that could wreck this goal apart. But then, after some thinking I realised that I'm just afraid to do this in "public". What others think if I fail etc etc. And I'm also afraid that I quit and I'll be disappoint my self. It would be much easier just not to do it. Lazy bastard!

OK, I'll try it and let's see how it goes.

Starting tonight (if wife is home early and can help with the kids bedtime) or tomorrow.

Happy tables for you all!
