call sb A5s, c/r turn?

recently I've been tightening waaaay up from SB vs BTN, in that I only 3Bet or fold.
So given BU's stats, this calls for a fold, because, as you correctly state, this isn't a spot to 3Bet.
As played, OTF you have top pair, but a crappy kicker, but two backdoor draws.
When the board pairs on the turn, your flush draw improves, but flush draws on paired boards are death traps.

Well played. Your other ideas are fancy play syndrome. Sometimes you lose with top pair, it's that simple. And there's nothing you can do about it. If you want to win every single hand, and start trying to bluff villains off top pair in BTN vs blinds spots, that is not going to lead you to a good place. Especially if, as stated, villain is not the type who likes to fold.

I don't think it's really bad to call with A5s out of position. Off course you need to be aware you could be dominated and than you can't do much else post-flop with the nut flush draw as back-up on the turn.

You could consider to change A5s in a bluff pre-flop with a 9bb 3bet in total, but if villain isn't folding often I think your current play is better. Folding is kind of tight with a suited ace against a BTN raise.

I think you are overusing stats here preflop. And making too big conclusions from small samples. How many hands are we speaking about, fold to 3bet% and 4bets? Likely those are tiny samples. Would we way differently if you have a note of an actual hand

I think just based on vpip/pfr (steal is also way more relevant stat here). You want to just 3bet here. Then I agree with posflop play.
