Hey guys Tim64 wanted me to post this hand I played.
I am completely fine with the play but its always good to get others thoughts on the hand

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$200/$400 No-Limit Hold'em (3 handed)

Known players:
[tg]SB(Hero)$5798.00:///////;BB$3228.00:///////;BU$4474.00:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is SB with 3:c, 2:d.
BU folds, Hero raises to $5,798.00, BB calls $2,828.00(All-In).

Flop: ($9026) 8:c, 3:h, 2:h (2 players)

Turn: ($9026) A:d (2 players)

River: ($9026) 6:h (2 players)

Final Pot: $9026.

villan is 50/0

My point is I can shove 100% of hands as long as he is not calling loser than 28%. I dont think a player playing 50/0 is ever calling as wide as a reg who will call around 24% of hands.

Thoughts anyone

Well I can't argue with that logic, although I'm not sure about your conclusion re this player. A 50/0 player shows a general propensity for looseness, I suggest, and this is nothing we want when pushing literally the worst 1% of hands.

My reasons for open folding this, when watching the hand, were:

1. when we are called we're in big trouble and usually losing a big chunk of our stack
2. If so (and assuming we do lose) then we will then be the short stack and will need to push wide. When we push wide we will need to rely much more on fold equity. Except now, we have a major image problem since we've been caught pushing complete trash and are more likely than previous to be called light (not what we want).
3. As big CL we don't gain that much from the chips we win from a successful push in this particular hand (the player order is unchanged).
4. When we fold (so long as we do not fold often) we increase our FE for later pushes as our opponents see that we do not push indiscriminately ATC.

p.s. could you also post your A :diamond:2 :diamond: hand ITM when you had a fd on flop?
p.p.s this is why I am not a fan of the new hand posting boards set up. This is a $22 SnG and it isn't helpful to have this in the <$5 section. Presume it's here because of OP's status but this is meant to be an educational service to improve the play of members (and therefore r/back...and therefore PS.com's profit margin) and I don't see how it makes sense to force members to trawl through all forums in case a hand has been misfiled.

i think its fine folding or shoving.

although in my opinion i tend to lean towards folding for many of the reasons Tim already mentioned.

the biggest reason for me is that the risk/reward ratio here isnt big enough for me to shove 32o even though its quite +EV in this spot.

i tend to agree with lennonac's read that a 50/0 player is a lot tighter than 25% in this spot.

however, i think by folding our bottom 5% - 10% here we gain a hell of a lot of FE with later pushes when the blinds are 250/500 + with a lot more to gain from the push.

yes lennonac is correct and there is absolutely nothing wrong in shoving ATC in this spot. I however, tend to fold for meta-game reasons in this spot.

I cant argue with either of your post all very reasonable except there is nothing to gain.
I think there is alot to gain, keeping the chip lead in a mini bubble is important imo. But I do understand both of your posts and I will be honest I dont always push in an ATC situation when 3 handed.

Tim I have to post it here because I am only bronze, I cant post in the higher buyin sections or even look at them for that matter. Which I agree with you is stupid.

My read on a villan with 50/0 is yes they are lose but their calling ranges are tighter than a regs when they should be lose. They tend to stack off with 20 blinds with A6o and the like.

I think his hand was A9o or something so I expect every play to call there.

Maybe I push too many small edges which increases my varience, maybe thats why I am always so far under EV

Hi all,

Nice hand well played and good reasoning. The 50/0 in a vacuum (ie you have not observed how "good" his calls are when blinds are large) simply tells us he is a fish. A fish will typically call tighter than 28% (they're probably calling closer to 15-20%).

The argument for folding, meanwhile, would be to look at the EV of a push vs different call ranges. If he is sometimes calling 40% instead of the required 28%, we lose a LOT. if he is calling 20% we gain a small amount

(BTW I still push)

Well the main lesson for me from me is a greater appreciation of the fact that a fish's looseness in the early stages becomes overtightness in the late stages.

I.e. they are loose when they should be tight and tight when they should be loose. And so vpip 50 actually means they'll call tighter, which, on face value is surprising.

Why is this? I.e. why, if they have a propensity for overvaluing marginal hands early on, does this not continue right through?

If anyone has any psychogical explanation for this phenomenon, I'd like to hear it. (The more we understand how they think, the greater our edge)

"blinds are low, the price is cheap. we should see more flops in this situation"
"blinds are high, it's very expensive to call. we should only play premium hands. ZOMG he went all-in, he must have aces."
