Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$20/$40 No-Limit Hold'em (9 handed)

Known players:
[tg]UTG1$1560.00:///////;UTG2$1965.00:///////;MP1$1455.00:///////;MP2$1380.00:///////;MP3$1960.00:///////;CO$1570.00:///////;BU$1820.00:///////;SB$500.00:///////;BB(Hero)$1290.00:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8:d, 9:s.
7 folds, SB calls $20.00, Hero checks.

Flop: ($80) K:c, T:d, 7:s (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $40.00, SB calls $40.00.

Turn: ($160) K:d (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($160) 9:h (2 players)
SB bets $160.00, Hero folds, SB gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $160.

What range of hands do you raise such preflop situation and what range do you just check behind? Regarding to flop play, I bet (about half a pot) at least 80% of the times when small blind checks to me and there is no one else in the pot. Is it ok? Is folding on the river in this hand ok?

Thanks,
Protagoras

Personally I wouldn't raise too much here, as I'd rather keep the pot small with most of my hands given his stack size and I simply raise with my good hands.

I like the bet on the flop and think this is a nice board to do it on. I think I would take another stab at it on the turn though and bet around 90 - there are a bunch of hands that he will have peeled the flop with but would likely fold now. And if we get raised its a easy laydown, if called we still have some outs.

I'm folding the river - we are only getting 2:1 which is no where near enough imo.

Hi all,

I'd bet closer to 2/3-3/4 on the flop but otherwise nice hand well played. I don't like raising preflop so much, however there are some opponents against whom this is good (ie try it a couple times see how he reacts. If it's often a limp/fold then note that and keep doing it).

I'd never bet the turn here. If he's called with a Kx or a Tx hand he's never folding so.. :(
