Poker Stars, $3 + $0.40 NL Hold'em Tournament, 300/600 Blinds, 50 Ante, 4 Players

UTG: 7,475
BTN: 450
SB: 1,840
Hero (BB): 3,735

Pre-Flop: (1,100) 9♠ T♠ dealt to Hero (BB)
2 folds, SB raises to 1,790 and is All-In,

Hi everyone,

According to nash the SB should push only 29,6% here (33+, Ax+, K6s+, K8o+, Q9s+, QTo+, JTs+) and BB (me) should call 43% (22+, Ax+, K2s+, K6o+ Q5s+, Q9o+, J6s+, J9o+, T6s+, T9o, 96s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s)..

In this particular hand I actually think that SB will push looser than the 29,6% because of the shortie in the BTN, the huge blinds..

Anyway if I think he will push here much looser about than the 29,6% (e.g. 50%) do I therefore have to tighten or loosen up my calling range? I think that I have to tighten up because it can be -$EV damaging for both of us.. (just guessing :f_biggrin: )..

Secondly, is it ok to call here very very tight (e.g. 10% only) although I know that I can call much looser than that, and just wait until the shortie is out or am I missing here a lot of +$EV by doing so?

Any feedback is highly appreciated..

You have him covered and he is pushing into you knowing the shortie is going out for sure
so his range should be even tighter here not wider. In this hand sng wiz says he must be
pushing 10 percent or more to make this a call. I may be wrong here but I don't see him
pushing much wider than 10 percent often so in this case its close and I fold.

Call for me...

897- is correct about sb shoving range is way tighter than 30% here.. More close to 5-10% imo... because there is a short stack on the table that has less than 1bb.. and SB is REALLY REALLY likely to get 3rd place if he folds here.. If he shoves he's risking busting third...

vs 5% range T9s has ~33% equity. vs 10% range it just has a slightly better equity ~1-2%.

Because there are antes and we have some nice pot odds we only need around ~31% equity to call.. So our call here is slightly better than breakeven..

if we fold stack sizes next hand will be

UTG(Previously BTN): 400
BTN(previously SB): 2,590
Hero (SB previously BB): 3,085
BB(previously UTG): 7,425

if we call and loose (~67% of the time if he shoves ~5-10%)

UTG(Previously BTN): 400
BTN(previously SB): 4485
Hero (SB previously BB): 1895
BB(previously UTG): 7,425

If We call and win (~33% of the time if he shoves ~5-10%)

UTG(Previously BTN): 400
Hero (SB previously BB): 6380
BB(previously UTG): 7,425

If we call and win we will almost always at least finish 2nd place and we have a decent shot at 1st place..
If we call and loose we are still really likely to make it to 3rd place...
Folding seems to leave us in a really similar spot to call/loosing..

Calling is pretty marginal and looks pretty much like a spite call.. But I think I lean towards a call here..

On the higher limits I might call vs a regular here.. and fold if BTN is a regular.. Cuz metagame wise I enjoy spite calling a reg here and I prefer the fish winning money over the reg.

Wow.. I still need to learn a lot :O..

Hi all,

Thanks Hlynkinn. Pot odds are important too here when we have villain covered.
