Guys need your help...

I thought I had it sussed then something confused me.

I've started loosening my 3 bet range from mid-late position, suited connectors as an example...

I was under the impression to do this ideally with 50bb+, then I read that it's the opponents stack size that should be 50bb+?

Which I guess makes sense as if opponent has 19 BB and you re-raise with 89s for example chances are he'll shove.

So my question is I guess would you open/3 bet more in-line with opponents stack than yours?

Yeah, you're right -- the "effective stack" is the lowest of the two stacks, because that is the maximum you can win.

Let's say you are facing a player with 19 BB and you have pocket 4s and 100 BB
He bets 3BB you don't have pot odds to call, but if you hit, you can stack him.
This happens about once in a while :coolface:
The general rule for set mining is that the effective stack has to be 20x the required bet.
He doesn't have it so you fold.

The same applies to 3Bet pots.
Short stack raises are weighted toward high pocket pairs, AK etc etc -- they have to be, because they don't have fold equity post flop.
If you 3Bet them you are committing them to the pot -- they won't fold anyway.

So if you're going to 3Bet them at all, just shove.

So just remember -- you're playing for the other guy's stack
