I think you will do okay in these after a few adjustments. Adam went from a passive player to an aggressive winner within weeks after making a few adjustments and is doing very well now. You are already a winner at the 0.25 games and I understand the 0.5 games are just as fishy.

Onwards and upwards.

I don't know how much your bankroll is worth but let's say you have enough for 100 buy-ins at the $1 games. So if you lose say 30 buy-ins drop back to 0.25 and grind another $40 profit and then have another go. Except this time your bankroll will be worth $110. If you manage to lose yet another 30 buy ins, drop back-down again and grind another $40 profit resulting in a $120 bankroll. So by doing this, if you somehow manage to keep failing with your shots at the $1 level, at least your bankroll will show an overall increase, despite having to move up and down several times.

$30 buy-in shots are too much. I took 10 Buy-in shots. Moving down to 0.25cents (with the fishes) to win $30 will be too hard and frustrating. I dont think MTT is for me anymore I cant tolerate the variance anymore and I dont think am good enough. :f_cry:

Playing MTT was good and profitable while it lasted. Now my Bankroll is stuck again.

Thanks for your encouragement and advice

Honestly, Phil Ivy would have a hard time taking a shot with just ten buy-ins for the 45-mans. These games are by default high variance affairs. I believe it is acceptable to take a ten buy-in shot for a single table SNG, but for a MTT you are not doing yourself any favours with such a small number of buy-ins.

Don't get depressed and give up. I made $180 playing the 0.25 games. Adam made quite a bit within a month or so. Set a goal for your bankroll. Let's say that goal is $100 before moving up. Then have a fair go at the $1 games with a 40 buy-in shot. You need to give yourself a chance, and ten buy-ins won't cover it.

I have sent you a request to be friends. :P Please accept and I will PM you about how you can build your bankroll elsewhere away from Pokerstars, at a particular poker site that is affiliated with Pokerstrategy. This site is a goldmine for me and I don't want hundreds on here reading about it and then flooding the games making them less profitable to play. So please PM me for which site I play at, and what games to play. You can make around $50 a week for stakes of no more than 0.50 cents.

Am not Phil Ivey he has more than enough money to live and to take risk. If it was a bigger stake I wouldnt mind taking 40 buyin shot. I planned on taking multiple 10 buy-in shot -this is my second shot. The plan was to reach 100$ and take 10 buy-in shot then drop down to 25 cents build up back and take another shot.

This time when I drop down I am going to build back 20BI for a 10BI shot then continue the cycle -hope it will take 2 cycles. Thanks for that Idea.

Taking shots is the worst thing you could possibly do. Build your bankroll up from the ground without taking shots. Grind as long as it needs to get a solid bankroll for the next buyin level (100 buyins+x for the 45men). Don't take shots that will bring your bankroll back to nothing in one session.

Trust me: It's wrong in so many ways, costs you so much time and in the end even a win leads to nothing, because you won't be able to perform well on the higher limits without the knowledge you would have gained while moving up normally.

Yes, building up a bankroll is hard work. But without hard work you won't get any money out of it.

Asaban

I totally agree with the sentiments of that post.

My worst downswing playing the 45-mans was when I decided to have a go at the $1 games. (I was more than fully rolled having made $180 profit from the 0.25.) I quickly found myself 38 buy-ins down in one suckout after another, but managed to rally back and ended up making roughly 15% profit before deciding to go back to the 0.25 games to re-evaluate my game. The funny thing is, I found the $1 games to be just as bad as the 0.25 for donks and fish, but I suffered every bad beat imaginable. Just as I moved up in stakes. Great timing! In desperation, I then deposited $80 on Full Tilt to give their $1.10 45-mans a try. I did well, and made over $58 profit in 100 games. Just before BF!! ;(

So Acespeci, ten buy-in shots isn't enough. You are asking for a miracle to succeed with such a limited bankroll. Like I said previously, Phil Ivy would struggle to pull it off with just ten buy-ins, and you are 95% certain of failing. You need to give yourself every chance and give these games a real good go. If you have $100 in your account, then 50 buy-ins should cover you for normal variance. But if you lose these 50 buy-ins then you will have no choice but to move back down and rebuild your roll.

Better still, wait until you have $150 dollars before moving up to the $1 games.

I agree.

I have more than 100 buy-in for the 45man MTT but the variance annoying, am getting tired of it.

I had my good moments think its best to quit while am ahead. My bankroll been stuck for more than a 2 weeks.

I dont see a future in MTT for the rest of my Poker Carreer the variance too not to mention Turbo.

I have built up my Bankroll with MTT now am planning on playing MSS.

Wish me luck and thanks for your help Asaban.

Maybe you will see me in the Tournament thread again someday

Just as I am about to quit and surrender to the MTT variance I decided to try taking shots at the $1 45man MTT again.

I felt more comfortable taking shots again at the $1 45man MTT because I have made a deposit from my poker earnings and I will get bonus while playing on Pokerstars. The bonus will be a nice insurance for taking shots at the limit.

_biggrin:

I have made my first cash at the $1 45man MTT and it is 4th place which is awesome. I got knock out with AA vs TT :P

Was glad when I got AA and got called then I saw the set -smh. I had good run though. I doubled up against stronger hands than mine by hitting straight twice. lol I love when the variance go my way

that final table was sick for me

same tables as my first cash guys -ft 45man MTT

Villain went All-in from EP with AJ; I knew I had to call with QQ when I have 10bb (ICM!!!). Knew villain couldn't be pushing with AA or KK (he would've slowed played that.

I was hoping an Ace didnt come on the flop because the MTT variance was getting sick to me then BAM BAM -strrrrrr888888
