Playing BTN vs BB sitting out

Well I do -- whether it is correct or not I don't know.

Here's why I think it is correct to do so:
I used Equilab's hand range calculator to find a range that is 50% above a random hand.
It gave me this:

       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     58.13%  56.64%   1.49% { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J6s+, T7s+, 98s, A2o+, K2o+, Q5o+, J8o+, T9o }
SB     41.87%  40.38%   1.49% { random }

Now vs two random hands:

       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     56.95%  56.59%   0.37% { 66+, AJs }
SB     21.52%  20.95%   0.57% { random }
BB     21.52%  20.95%   0.58% { random }

Clearly you need to be much tighter to have 50% equity vs two random hands.
Often you don't need 50% equity, but for whatever you need, it will be a tighter range vs two than vs 1.

Depends on SB obviously. Even if SB understand that BU could open extremely wide he is still in bad position and not getting great price for the call. So as default I would open raise 80+% of hands before getting proof that SB is willing to play very loose versus your steal.

With position advantage for you against the SB it's really tough for him to defend extreme wide if you would open any BTN. I expect you have auto profit against most villains or he's 3bet shoves a lot if he has a <20bb stack.
