[Closed] Another family man attempting to grind

Just finished playing 139 hands at 2 NL10 tables. Profit = $10.02.

Cleared the 5 FTP to check day 3 of 9 off for the Take2 promotions. Kicking myself for not keeping track of the amount of hands that I played the other 2 days. Since I started the Take2 promotion and playing outside of my BR at the NL10 tables, I have made a profit of roughly $10/day, each day only about 150 hands or so. Not sure if that is good or not, I like it. I know it is not enough volume to make a determination on, but you have to start somewhere

Interesting thought on the staking forum. I read the applications for entertainment purposes only. I have seen some "justifications" for actually staking a person. However, what I don't understand is the folks that are trying to get people to stake them at the micro-levels. Now unless they are somewhere that they cannot make a deposit to the poker sites, why would anyone stake someone at the $1 STT? The way I see it, and I admittedly could be completely wrong, if you are just trying to grind the micro-stakes, look in your couch and car, gather all the change, deposit it in your bank, transfer it to a poker site and VIOLA! you have your money to grind.

30$ in approximately 450 hands makes up for a winrate of 66BB/100. A normal winrate for an average player playing few tables (2-6) on NL10 would probably be around 10-25BB/100, so you're well over that. Expect the profits in the coming sessions to be a lot smaller on average and ofc some sessions to end in loss.

As for the staking, I totally agree with you. On higher stakes, though, a lot of the winning players have good reasons for needing to be staked (for example if they needed to withdraw a big amount for personal reasons) and there is of course a bigger motivation for the staker (more money, not in %, but in total $). But I guess a lot of people have really misinterpreted how staking should be used as a tool for the player to play limits comfortably and still be worthwhile for the staker to invest time and money on.

I know that winrate is unsustainable, but as you said, I will enjoy it while I can.

Speaking of enjoying things...Got 3 out of the 4 monkeys in bed, Mrs. Founder is helping the oldest (10 yo) with a project for school, so I decided to open 2 NL10 tables and see how it goes...Ran my stacks up to 19.62 and 9.62, respectively, in 39 hands. Mrs. Founder just drafted me to help with the project, so the impromptu poker session must come to an end

Turned a profit of $9.24.

We will see what tomorrow holds.

An educated guess would be that tomorrow's session will end with a profit of somewhere around 9.80$

So I was playing away, accumulating my pts for the Take2 promo. Things were going decently. Was down $20, but things are slow at work and I decided that I would just play a good amount of volume today. One table was not going well at all, so I closed it and opened another table. Lo and behold there is THAZAR. I remembered seeing his name on the forums here and thought, alright time to see if I can play a fellow PS. Luckily, the open seat was to his left, so I happily put my $10 on the table. Then the hand above happened. Thanks, thazar for posting it, as I do not know how to do that yet.

Full Tilt started its maintenance, so that session is over.

So today was a very interesting day at the Full Tilt poker tables. Ran into fellow pokerstrategist, thazar (see above post). Nice to meet someone on the tables and skype afterward. Very much appreciative.

The results of the NL10 were a bit leveling. Before the maintenance at Full Tilt I had netted a $9.09 loss. After the maintenance, I was eager to get back to the tables to grind out some more. However, in just over 35 hands, I was down an additional $13.11 (thanks to the AA hand posted earlier). I closed the NL10 tables and made an emotional move back to the green fields of the $5.50 Regular STT. I feel much better now as I won the tournament and the $22.50 top prize that comes with it.

Mom always taught me to quit while I'm ahead...and with it being her birthday today, I will honor that and just read and/or watch some videos, maybe rail some tables.

Summary for today:
NL10 - 194 hands = -$22.20
$5.5 Reg. STT = 1st place for $22.50, profit of $17.00

Total for the day = -$5.20

In poker however quitting when you are ahead, (or when you are losing as a matter of fact actually) should not apply. It is a bad practice ;). As long as you play well keep playing. when your game deteriorates whatever the results quit.

Hey, about the AA hand on NL10, I think you should raise more when you have 1 raiser and 1 caller. He raised to 20c, someone calls 20c, raising it to 50c is way too low, a standard 3bet (reraise) here would be around 80c, you could even make it 1$ since you're in the BB and you're going to be playing the hand out of position against them. Also, when 2 people call the flop, I wouldn't go for a check/raise unless you have a specific reason to, better to just bet around 2/3-3/4 pot-size directly since you have the initiative.

A general advice is that the more people that see the flop, the closer you should lean to making a pot sized bet, since a lot of them easily get good odds for drawing if only one of them calls and then the later streets tend to get messy with 3 people in the hand.

Of course now, the reason he won was because he got very lucky and sucked out, but it's still something you could think about for the next time.

played on PS but busted my second bankroll(small one,but..)..i'll never play there on micro stakes...played well(reviewed my hands on HEM) but i lost to a lot of kamikaze that go all in with trash cards and a lot of AA vs small pairs...even if know i didnt make so many mistakes it affected my trust,so now i'll start a blog to post and ask the PROs here were should i play..fell wellcome to come and post some opinions...gl my friend

I'll be on the lookout for your blog. It is a good idea and you will get some feedback, as you can see on my blog.

As for sites...it doesn't matter, really. If you are talking between PokerStars and Full Tilt. It is just up to which one you like the best. Micro levels are micro levels. It is very difficult to get those folks to fold, because it just isn't enough of a loss if they lose (ie you have no fold equity). Take a look at the micro strategy videos. Also you might want to change to Fixed Limit to start off on. That will decrease the variance. You won't be able to lose a significant amount on one hand.

The smaller sites, I have heard, are a bit softer than the big guys, so you might want to try one of those as well.

Thanks for this. Wow, posting hands really is beneficial. I can see your point clearly. The one that stayed with me was a huge fish, and I didn't want him to leave, hence the small raise. Playing a better opponent, your advice is very valuable and I will definitely be thinking about it next time I get a monster.

Interesting session today. Up and down. Stay at one table too long. There was a pretty aggressive player directly to my left. Only would fold to a 2-barrel..and would generally take everything to the river to see where you stood. I say I stayed too long, because he got all my chips on my last hand at the table.

It was a completely stupid call on my part. For some reason, I was gunning for this guy. Which is never a good thing. I make that raise, and the only thing that calls me, has me crushed, completely crushed. But when he went all-in, I guess my thought was, that a huge over bet, I might have him with top pair, and gutshot (which is horrible to think). The results are pretty obvious

Played about 600 hands today though. Finished level 1 of the Take2 promo, so I will be receiving $5 at the end of the week. 4 more days and I will receive another $20 from them as well

Thought about playing a $5.5 STT, but no time to do that here at work, might make it on tonight, we will see how the kids do.
