I have a new approach to studying - I now have a notebook and pen beside me and am going to write notes as I read each article. Then as I play I will keep the notebook open and keep reviewing what I have written as I play. Hopefully this will help me internalise the material more thoroughly. With this method I am going to go right back to the start, go through every bronze and silver BSS article again to make sure I master each little detail.

I have ordered The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky through a local bookshop, will take a few weeks to arrive though so I am aiming to read it in January.

Wow I'm really happy about your development and think the steps you have decided on are great!

Studying & improvement are more important than quick status - since you can always increase the number of hands once everything is more automatic. Table selection is also very important as you should only play against players where you know you have an edge. Its good you are paying attention to it, as a lot of players forget this.

With your attitude I think you are on a good path forward!

Glad to hear you are improving your game and your BR is steadily increasing. It's nice to see hard work pay off, isn't it?

I am at about the same place you are, playing BSS at NL10 FR and working on tightening my game to get to a good solid ABC style.

thanks for you're post in my blog delete, wow very nice blog, you really have you're mind set and you are setting very good goals and targets, things i haven't even thought of. Reading this blog has totally changed my way of thinking about what i want from poker and hopefully from today i will change for the good.

It's really good to see how much studying you are putting into this, this is one area i'm failing on, i play 4 tables and have the SHC next to me, i pretty much know it pre flop its just the odd hand where i forget if i can call or have to fold because nobody limped in previous to me.

What sort of handrange are you using? You said in my blog that i am playing slightly too tight and my PFR is a little low so i was wondering if you could provide that information from you're stats as you're obviously doing nicely in NL10.

I will be keeping a very close eye on this blog and it has already improved my way of thinking so thankyou and keep up the good work!

My vpip and pfr are currently around 18/11, though a gap of 7 is still a little high I think so I am trying to get it about 18/13. If you stick exactly to the SHC I think your stats will be approx. 18/9 or 18/10, but I try to be a bit more aggressive from late position to increase overall fold equity.

Thanks very much for the words of encouragement from all of you, it nags at me a little that my bankroll is growing so slowly when I see a constant stream of beginners here whose bankrolls grow to $300, $500 in a few short weeks, but I dont get disheartened by that, I accept that I am not one of those lucky souls and I have to do it the hard way. I really dont mind that, having to slog it out and do everything the hard way will make me a stronger player in the long run.

Even tho I dont have have the NL knowledges, since im a FL player , I can recognize a determinated person that isnt affraid of hard work,that is goal oriented and willing to study/practice in order to achieve what their mind had set up. Havent been able to play for a few days, came back today and found myself a little rusty losing $14 over 500 hands.

I am still waiting for the Theory of Poker to arrive so in the meantime I bought and read the only NL cashgame book I could find - Texas Holdem Poker: Win Online by Paul Mendelson. I wasnt expecting much from the book and I found his playing strategies to be a crock of shit, I will be ignoring it and sticking with ps strategy. The book did have some good advice though on peripheral stuff such as table selction, player image and general attitudes toward the game.

I have just now started re-studying the bronze and silver articles, writing notes and summaries as I go to make sure I master everything. It seems to be going well, I only do one article at a time at the beginning of a session then leave that page open while I am playing.

Progress for december so far:
Hands played - 5,819
winnings - $17.70
BB/HH - 2.76 (it was about 5 before today)
bankroll - about $245

Goals for the coming week:
I have a few days off work now so will try and get in 2-3 sessions per day

> review all bronze and most silver articles, making sure I dont miss anything
> get up early and attend some coachings
> play with elephant running and review handhistory of every session
> play enough hands to secure gold status for another month

Suffered a big downswing end of last week which set me on tilt. Maybe not so big but certainly the worst I have had so far, bankroll fell from $270 to $200 in a couple of days ruining all the hard work I put in the last few weeks. This is the first time I have really tilted, so I decided to take a break from cashgames altogether and play a few $3 sngs. I had forgotten how much fun sngs were until now, so i will stick with them for a while.

I have read all the basic/bronze and some silver sng articles and find it is much, much easier to learn than BSS and much more enjoyable. Hopefully it is more profitable too. I have also downloaded the ICM trainer light which I cruised through quite easily.

I intend to return to cashgames eventually, probably SH only and mostly with a view to improving my live game play so I can cream all the rich asian tourists wandering around Queenstown. I didnt really take much notice of them until I started studying poker, now every tourist who walks near the casino seems to have a $$$ sign on his forehead lol.

Playing $3 sngs means I am not earning many strategy points now, I only play 1 table so I will probably drop to silver status next month. I dont want to move up limits or add more tables though until I am confident I can win consistently. It seems easy enough.

The upside of sng play is the enjoyment, more learning opportunities, more books available about tourney play, hopefully more profitable and the stop/start structure of a session is quite convenient if you want to study articles etc in between games. There are also weekly tourneys in towns near where I live which involve extremely bad players.

The downside is that if I am interrupted during a session it can be frustrating and expensive. When I get interrupted during a cashgame session I dont care, I can walk away from the computer without locing a buyin.

My new goal for the end of December:

> record a positive ROI in sngs for the month
> memorise all basic, bronze and silver articles about sng play
> attend chennys sng coachings
> keep practising with ICM trainer
