I find one of your hands really interesting from Villain perspective. (If you don't want to talk about it on your blog I'll edit and remove it, just ask) This hand;

There is a whole whost of hands a regular shortstacker would reraise you with on the flop here. "Trapper" Monster hand, Top pair Good Kicker, weird suited straighted draw, Flushdraw or FD with pair of 4's. Against a super nitty shortstacker a fold might be the best option because if only plays 2-pair or better on freeplay ;) So much to think about, What would this Shortstackers AF be in freeplay scenarios, how many Hands will he have on me and how will that affect his pushing range etc.... I think that villain has actually ended up in a really tricky spot here!

In his position i would be tempted by a fold against tight players especially if they have low pfr's (Trap, but thats another story) What do you think?

With 2 limpers in front of me , a SSS player limps in only with a PP to be marginally +EV. You need 4:1 for PP and 5:1 for Axs,Broadways,SCs.

As the board is dry, there are only 2 options: Set or Overpair. Therefore a TPTK is not enough against a shortie. My AF is 7 in average (what will show up @ HUDs) so he might think I am bluffing, but why should I be bluffing with only 17.5BB? I have FE yes but not much.

You do not got any implieds against a SSS so a toughfold with TPTK but mostly Bigstacks makes the mistake of calling you down with this A8o. ;)

Are we looking at the same hand?

[Edit], I was playing against another SSS'er with decent stats.
Well then it is most obvious A8o is not enough when I shove.. I simply do not shove because I don't trust his bet..

If he does know your a decent thinking sss'er then he would know you would only limp pp's in that spot and must be behind to a set in most cases.

Agreed if i was on top form i would fold this hand, but the board is not dry at all.

However if he thinks your slightly looser pre-flop then he can add sc's to your range and given your high agression factor of 7 then it becomes more interesting as hands such as Axs and 9T of spades could be part of your range.

Hi Gerv,

I have only recently become acquainted with your Blog. It's brilliant. I congratulate you for your efforts as I am sure you are not only benefiting from it but also benefiting all other players who are following the discussions. I'll follow it closely myself.

Good luck and better skill,

Dandycal.

Absolutely true, infact I am even able to limp 45s+ and stuff but I had to protect my trips from a FD so it comes Protecting over Protecting I think. He should have betted Pot to let me fold my Gutshot Straight + FD or something..

If DaPhunk would give his opinion about Villain's Shortie Play (afaik I didnt played against you in this hand I sincerely hope that you are not raising this discussion up due the fact that you lost from me *oh gee.. :P*)

I only can honourable say thank you dandycal :) I am blogging because I got the feeling you , as readers are watching me all the time so I want to play my A-Game. I am happy that readers benefit from my experiences so that they will foresee some things.

I like your vocab, are you from Britain or Canada?
Cheers (with Beer )

hehehe, That would actually be a definate possibility Had i not been in London all day yesterday and not played a single poker hand ;) BB stats look about right. I'm sure we will have encountered one another in a hand similar to this though. It's a situation that crops up quite a lot.

My Answer;
If i was put in the spot of the villain my play would totally depend on the other SSSers stats or reads I had on him. If however i had no reads i would fold to an 8/7 or 9/8 SSSer or tighter. (Even with 7 AF)

Now, If your stats were say 12/8 maybe 14/8, 14/9 or looser instead I will often call it in this spot, My Reason for folding in this spot would be that there were only 2 limpers in front of you and that removes some of your limping range. (I also have notes on some SSSers - Freeplay Nit bet only 2Pair+) That said, I will often still think you are betting with a great many draws and Top Pair type hands so that I have to call.

Its a tough decision and your super high AF may sway me from making my normal move here also. But In summary;

9 vpip or tight with 9pfr or tighter - Fold.
14 vpip or looser with 9 pfr or looser - Push.
10 to 13 vpip with 8 or 9 pfr - Toughest spot, Decision depends completely on my mood, my opinion of you (freeplay nit or not) and If in doubt I will fold with 10 or 11 vpip, push with 12 or 13.

I still think its a tough decision and I wouldn't trust myself to always make the right play here. Eg, I will sometimes have bad reads on opponents, and I do also make mistakes in estimating A Villains range every so Often.

Hope you liked my long answer lol. :)

[x]''A Classic Experiment''

Hello, its 2 hour in the afternoon and I decided to write an update since I cannot play poker now since Elephant has to re-import all Nl100/Nl50 hands again due I use 0.62 now.. Elephant has to import hands twice since I have split the database apart in 2 sections namely NL100+ and NL50. Sometimes when I mine I mine both limits so I will import 2k hands from that in both databases but concerning other mining, I import them into the specific database. I hope my PC will lag less then due PostgreSQL! I think I have 750k+ hands on Nl100+, there are also some Regs on Nl600 that plays on Nl100 because due the lack of traffic on PartyPoker and 500k on Nl50.

Well yesterday wasn't quite a playing day but more a sweating day. I decided to do something new with DeKuip and Elrio (Dutch SSS'ers). It is a sort of coaching but every player played his session while we watched through Mikogo. We all had microphones so we chatted while the player played.

I started first but as soon as Elephant died due some kind of error, it was very annoying since it takes 10+ minutes to start that program ... So I quit for the day and watched Elrio playing. He plays with Stats but still basic SSS because he used to play Shorthanded but he cannot bear the swings you get there, I can imagine that :)
He shoved his T:cT:d when a 13/0 or something RRaised him with 26bb. He managed to get Trips on the Turn while being all-in Preflop but a K:s was devastating since Villain had K:hK:c .... aargh X(

DeKuip had to go after Elrio's session so he couldn't play so I owe him something ;)

Concerning my title of this blog post, I decided to switch from my regular music while I play Poker to Classical Music! When I was dreaming while I was sleeping , I remembered that listening to classical music can influence/increase your performance.
Well I want to check that out! so I managed to grab several classical albums of beethoven/mozart and other dudes with Piano's and stuff.

I got like 3 hours of classical music now so that's enough. I will keep you up to date with this experiment!.
I used to listen to House/Dance music because Pop/HipHop music will distract you because they sing.. But House/Dance tempo/rhythm is abit higher than Classical so I might get Hyperactive and make rush-decisions, at least thats what I think (=Hypothesis).

Going back to the sweat sessions, I took a shower at around 22:15 CET and prepared for some more SSS since I lack the Points I want to have before PartyPoker decides to switch their VIP program. cashing in the bonus dollars and get the hell out of PartyPoker is a scenario if I feel that I get scammed due the new program ;)

My Graphs since I played after twelve o'clock:

So I played like breakeven with only 3 +18bbs and 2 -20BBs hands well it is normal , especially when you didnt played a lot. But today will be a good day, I only hope that Elephant will not show me new things I do not like

Of those 3xx hands I found my hand of today, I found the outcome rather funny and (un)expected...:

very intrested of the results of that experiment ;). I usely listen to powermetal but listen to trance a lot too though can't really say it influence my game but who knows.

I do know an episode of mythbuster where they tested for 6 months if a plant grew better if it was talked to or not or played classical mucis or metal. And the conclusion was that plants rock

[x] Saturday Night Fever

With the usage of the new Elephant, some things weren't planned as they should resulting in a severe limited amount of playing time. I only managed to import my Nl100 database again which isn't huge compared to NL50. I imported Nl50 today on 11:00 CEt but managed to screw up some file that made Elephant crash (I knew that already but forgot..) so I have to re-import the 750k database on NL50 PartyPoker again, again =(

Anyways with the homecoming of the new elephant, some stats were tweaked/upgraded so I can take full advantage of them. Instead of Fold Flop/Turn I got fold to c-bet which is more accurate and handier. Ugh I hate importing new databases

Enough of the trouble with Elephant that also had an impact on my play. I watched DeKuips back from 20:00 CEt till 22:00 CEt, discussing new strats/tactics/watching him play (with his favourite hand K3... wtf*) and stuff.

The thing about K3 on PokerStars Nl100 is that whenever you see the 5 community cards, you will see often a K and a 3.. at least I saw it. K33 flop or K on the Turn and 3 on the river. it's sick but he didnt had the guts to play a K3 hand... lol.

Anyways I played from 22:00 CET till 23:30 CET. I didnt feel like clubbing sine I was tired afterwards and a can of RedBull couldn't save me from yawning sometimes..

As Elephant is quite busy today you should watch my post twice since I am going to post some hands (Fish + extraordinary situations based on my reads rather than logic but combined with calculations!

The session was rather swingy in 500 hands, managed to ran against Aces with Kings preflop, PartyPoker decided to cold the deck by giving me TT, a Villain 99, a fish 89o and another SSS'er AA, a 100bb pot for the other SSS'er up for grabs, inevitable.

On the contrary, I managed to triply my stack rather than quadriple it because I didnt had the guts to shove my 40bb stack on the turn with AA while the board wasn't heavy. more details will follow up in the means of a Sample Hand.

With Elephant ready to go boom-boom-boom, I got more information about Villains thus I will be playing more specificly against Opponents, I lost some DB HHs on both limits but I will compensate that with intensive mining. My Database is uptodate from September 1st as latest I think up till now.

Once again, check out this post again in the Evening as I will have my sample hands + figures ready for you to read!

Today I will be playing 2 SSS sessions I think to get my weekly goal (170 SPP) / 5 = 34x20 raked hands). Maybe I will be playing Titan Freeroll and BoD but I think Cashgaming has a priority right now because of the goals I want to achieve.

Concerning music:
Viewer88: Didnt know a Drum'n'Bass Radio :o! I only listen to Pendulum/Prodigy/Aphrodite/Calyx. But I think Speed-Music will affect my decisions in a negative manner but I definitly will tune in sometimes whenever I am not playing! Thanks!

Alejandrosh: Is Vivaldi playing the Piano? As I donot like choir music because they sing ... Well I sing Ode To Joy sometimes but that's mainly because I know the lyric + ive been to the European Parlement sometime

sirilidion: Wow PowerMetal? What kind of bands are placed in Powermetal? I know DragonForce in SpeedMetal, Rammstein as regular metal or something :)

Have a nice Sun-Day,

Well melodic speed metal = power metal so Dragonforce is one of the bands. other bands I listen to are firewind, kamelot and my favorite is sonata artica. Sonata artica is preforming in Rijssen next friday and I have a ticket. Really looking forward to it . I think Rammstein is hard Rock but the rock hard too

To give you a better idea here is a number of Sonata artica:

Sonata Artica- Don't say word
