And again
hi lazza....i saw that you tried all sort of sngs, so i think you are the right person to answer me a question....right now i plan to start grinding on stars...soon i will deposit and start with a 100$ bankroll, and my plan was to grind 9man sng's, regular speed...but i also consider trying the 45man sngs that you are playing....
so my question is, which do you think are better, 9man or 45man? the most important diference that i'm interested in would be in terms of winnings/hour....which one do you think would bring a better winn ratio?
and another question would be, if i will choose 9man, dhould i consider ko ones instead of normal? are more profitable?
thx and have a nice day!
Hey Bugy92,
There are pros and cons for both.
SINGLE TABLE SNGS
If you have a good grasp of ICM / Nash, then I would suggest The single table SnGs. However I would then be more inclined to play the turbo 9 or 6 manners. The aim here is to get to the bubble with as many chips as you can and then playing unexploitably.
If you play regular speed then you'll have to multi-table almost double the turbos to turn over the same amount of games.
Also make notes. Identify the fish and good regs and colour code them. These go off quickly enough to be able to do some basic table selecting. Try to get in SnGs that have a min of 2 fish and as few good regs as possible.
These have the potential to give you a higher winnings per hour.
MULTI TABLE SNGS
These would be preferable if you don't have a great understanding of ICM / Nash or if you are a nit (Me
).
In these you play like a rock hard nit until the blinds get to 50/100. Then you use steals and resteals to maintain a stack until the last two tables.
This is where it gets profitable. The combination of people tightening up and tables going short handed means you can abuse abuse abuse.
The major problem with earning potential here is time. To win a 45 man regular speed is the best part of 2 and a half hours. Turbos can literally be half that time.
Another problem is going up in stakes. The regular speed stops at $3.50. So then you would have to switch to 27 or 90 manners. Or of course switch to the turbo 45 mans.
FINAL VERDICT
ST SnGs Turbos. Definitely best for winnings/per hour and ITM%.
Hope all that made sense

Shhhhh
Spoiler
Wow. It's been almost 2 months since I blogged and I haven't played any 45 manners since before Xmas.

My starting roll for this at the beginning of December was $20 and it effectively sits now on $81.37 after having been up to $113. I should have been taking a shot at the $3.50s but I could smell a downswing coming so I didn't and the inevitable downswing came.
So now I want to get back above $105 so I can take a shot at the $3.50 (whereas I'm happy to use 20BIs for Regs, I prefer 30 for Turbos).
Also need to get out of the $1.50s before shanesmith and adamrothwell move there. Games will definitely get harder.
So I'm off to play some poker. And remember one thing fellow 45 manners...

Happy Grinding

Good to see you back lazza - get those $3.50,s crushed and leave the bits for the rest of us to pick up
- ♠_cool:
Good luck! let us know how you find the $3.50;s
I'd love to join you but the $0.50 45 man's are slapping me in the face right now. I feel like i'm close to do something at times but I've got a lot to learn. If it clicks at some point i'll be up there to take your chips

I was worried for a couple of minutes until I understood that you were talking about the 24hPoker Platinum VIP (30% RB, meh) but not the Pokerstrategy Platinum
What games are you going to switch to after moving up - 18-man, 180-man or smth else? (Still, the SnG landscape is bleak nowadays, everyone should consider either switching to cash or investing into another business after earning $50K...)
Nice cats itt, keep'em coming!
GL!
Ty all for your support.
@tony. I would prefer to stay at the 45 manners. I have noticed that a lot of good quality players that beat $1.50s end up drifting off to the 90s or 180s. So I don't think the standard at the higher 45 man limits is that much stronger.
It's possible I might look to grind some 180s on iPoker, but for Stars I think the 45s will be softer than the 180s.

Seems very true to me,
I mean I'm not relevant source because I played only about 1k games at each format, but I pretty much crushed 15$ 45mans, while 15$ 180s seemsd very hard for me back then. Also 30$ 45mans is pretty mich the same field as 15's (all 15's regs + some random grinders who register to all 30$+ mtt sngs. (Not much of them).
Note that I didn't play these formats for a year or so, so my observations could be outdated.
Is there even enough traffic at the 180s on iPoker? I recall from when I played there a long while ago, there wasn't really any traffic for the 180mans at all. Or very slow, anyway.
Either way, now that you'll be starting the grind again as well, I'll continue following as well
I doubt that even 18-mans run on consistently on iPoker. SnGs with any bigger number of entrants don't even exist there any longer.
To clarify, I meant to ask where one should move when already overrolled for the biggest 45-mans offered, i.e. $30s. The options are then $35-60 turbo 180-mans (similar to hypothetical $60-100 45-mans or $100-200 18-mans BRM-wise) and 18-mans all the way up to $500.
The latter seem a slightly better game to transition into because even a 6-figure roll can be put to a good use there and there'll be no need to learn to play cash
I have no idea about the softness of 18-mans vs 180-mans, but intuitively, I guess 18-mans are more grindable just because they fill up faster...
Scratch that, though: none of HS MTSnGs are filling up fast enough even at this peakest hour, so they're not grindable even if mixed together with Steps on top; so it will be time to learn to play MS-HS cash PLO
Hey guys,
Sorry for the lack of updates but have had some RL issues keeping me distracted and unfocussed and I have promised myself I won't play unless I can give it my full attention. Issues should be sorted by the weekend so hopefully I'll be able to have a decent grind.
Have managed to play a mere 12 games with 1 x 4th and 2 x 5ths for +.65c ♠_o:
I have an interesting hand to post. I got AA in the SB and tank called (took 30 seconds and I was so smelling AA elsewhere.

So basically you were slow-rolling, you're such a terrible person ♠_evil:
Nice to see you playing again and showing a profit, even if it's very small. gl and hopefully you'll move up to where they respect your raises soon

Lol. No way was I slow rolling. This was almost a seminal moment in my poker career. Laying down aces preflop takes a fair bit of guts and I almost did it.
Maybe next time.

Folding aces preflop with a 7BB stack?
Maybe it's just the cash game player in me talking, but why would you even consider that?
