Aha. That's where MTSnGs differ from cash in a big way, mainly because of the stage the SnG is at. From memory there were 15 players left and I was about 11th with the blinds just passing me. This means from the next hand on I'm in LP in a traditionally tight stage of the tourney.

When 4 people want to go allin at this stage of a 45 manner, you are generally looking at AA. I already had AA so that was why I tanked. The reason I did call in the end was in the vain hope I was up against two AK, AQ type hands.

My read was pretty good in the end because I thought I was up against AA, another pocket pair and I couldn't get a handle on the other hand because calling there with KQs is pretty ordinary.

But it's a 45man MTT right? So with 15 players left, I don't really see where the bubble factor is that may make you fold AA? Just because someone else might have AA as well isn't really a reason to fold it in itself...

Or am I missing something? ?(

It's more about how much these guys tighten up when it gets to the last 2 tables. This is what I play for. When they tighten, I loosen up and pick up a lot of easy chips because people aren't calling shoves at this stage unless they are huge.

I will often get to the last 2 tables in the bottom half of stacks but by the time we get to the FT I'm in the top half of stacks generally by taking very little risk.

But surely that doesn't justify folding AA? That really seems like it would be a huge mistake to me!

Of course you didn't fold in this case so it's all good, but I still don't think you should even think about folding AA here :)

But by the time you called, only two players were all-in, and the open raiser had less than 12BB.

Even if one of them has aces, the other player only has a 20% chance to draw out on you at best. And if none of them has AA, you have a >70% chance to triple up.

I admit that I'm not familiar with the payout structure of 45-manners, but I don't think a fold would ever be an option at all in a situation like that.

Hi Laz,

In my opinion you are playing way too scared if you tank call AA here. In 45man it no that big bubble factor pre final table, at final table you defenetly can follow icmizer/sngwizard ect. ranges but pre final table you should not tighen up that much. I think you think it more way off chipev then it actually are.
There is for sure some icm considerations and it no pure chipev but it not that close money to tighten up radically ranges and tank call nuts or biggest pp pre.
Also note we are very happy about not blinding out now but build up some bigger stack to take advantage on bubble later on with bigger(or biggest) stack.

Solid bump, sir :f_wink:

Laz, I agree that the bubble factor isn't big enough to prevent AA from snap-overcalling. Another reason why flipping AA at this stage is important is that you'll have a big stack and continue scaring those nits. They of course can't see you fold AA in a single hand, but sometime they'll realise that you fold everything.

Hey guys.

Thanks for your replies. :)

It's about time I updated my blog anyway.

Life's been a bit of a bummer lately. Cougar (my cat) went missing so I scoured the streets, letterboxed flyers, put flyers up in local shops etc. After a week or so I got a phone call from a guy who saw the flyer in the local shop.

Cougar had been hit by a car. He was taken to a vet but apparently the damage was too severe. :(

During that time I was also hit by a 3 day migraine so I felt about as low as I've ever felt.

But poker has made me a much stronger person mentally than I once was.

So with Golden SnGs back on from Monday, it may be an opportune time to hit the tables again.

Happy Grinding

Laz

oh Laz,

It sounds terrible. I am sorry about your cat. :(
I am having hamster right now but he will die someday soon because live already some real long time. I am thinking to take new pet after that but emotional attachment to pets because caring about them so much make it little difficult knowing theses sad days happen.

Migraine always is unenviable. But tough times is there to leave not to stay.

GL with golden sng. I have never hit any and games is even with more regs during theses promotions then usual.

Hey Kapurs,

Thanks so much for the kind words. :)

Cougar was almost 13 years old, but his eyes were clear and bright and the local birds and mice were still in danger. I still expected to get a couple more years from him but it wasn't to be.

And you're right, tough times are there to be endured. I'm a great believer in the saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

I haven't managed to hit a Golden SnG in previous promotions, so maybe this time.

Cheers

Laz

Hey guys,

About time I updated this blog. Have started dipping my toes back in the water and I would like to post a couple of interesting hands from my home games last weekend.

I would like people to have a stab at what hero and villains holdings are

Hand 1. Villain is a MTT crusher with 2 final tables in recent times.

PokerStars - $5+$0.50|25/50 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 59.92 BB (VPIP: 42.33, PFR: 22.42, 3Bet Preflop: 8.05, Hands: 1,569)
SB: 67.02 BB (VPIP: 38.52, PFR: 24.44, 3Bet Preflop: 17.14, Hands: 144)
BB: 56.1 BB (VPIP: 45.96, PFR: 35.03, 3Bet Preflop: 12.38, Hands: 949)
Hero (CO): 56.96 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has ???

Hero raises to 2.2 BB, fold, SB calls 1.7 BB, fold

Flop: (5.4 BB, 2 players) 8♣ 5♣ 8♠
SB bets 1 BB, Hero raises to 3.3 BB, SB calls 2.3 BB

Turn: (12 BB, 2 players) 7♣
SB bets 2 BB, Hero raises to 7.3 BB, SB raises to 21 BB, Hero raises to 51.46 BB and is all-in, SB calls 30.46 BB

River: (114.92 BB, 2 players) J♥

Hand 2. Villain has always owned me HU.

PokerStars - $1+$0.10|40/80 NL (2 max) - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): 18.83 BB
SB: 18.68 BB (VPIP: 43.62, PFR: 23.64, 3Bet Preflop: 8.63, Hands: 1,652)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has ???

SB raises to 2 BB, Hero calls 1 BB

Flop: (4 BB, 2 players) 9♥ 8♦ 6♠
Hero checks, SB bets 2 BB, Hero raises to 6 BB, SB raises to 16.68 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 10.68 BB

Turn: (37.35 BB, 2 players) 8♥

River: (37.35 BB, 2 players) 3♦

So have a go and see if you can guess the holdings. There are no prizes apart from a pat on the back for being a balla hand reader.

And I will release villain's names. _evil:

Cheers

Laz

Hey BULLMONEY,

You can have a crack at villain's holdings too, as both players played both hands with aggression

I know hand 1 so I won't comment on that

Hand 2:

Hero: 78
Villain: 99-QQ

Hand 1.

Most likely for hero good part of XcXc holdings and sometimes full houses.

Villain being good i assume he might as played huge % times XcXc, 87. Dunno if in his preflop calling range and line is much weaker hands.
Depending villain thinking about hero 55/77 might played hand this way.
Some 8x might make sense sometimes but still a8/k8 seem should always 3bet/fold if hero in hand is not fishy player and them might make different line, so i prob not take them in villain range.

Overall i think both players in hand 1 is pretty nutted and whatever one won it cooler and money is no moving there.

Hand 2

On this heads up hand both player hands can contain so much hands that it pretty hard count them all.

I assume hero and villain both can easy have 2 pairs combos, pair + draw combo, TP combos, just draw and maybe some more hands.
Playing 18bb stacks all theses hands seem fine to stack off for both players on flop.

This is unreal guess for specific hands so i will just not go for this one.

@BULLMONEY. You have included Villain's holding from hand 1 in your range. He was in fact holding AcTc. The villain was our very own HollyMichelle. Unfortunately you bricked the others but I will let you or anyone else have another crack.

@HollyMichelle Hero hand close. Villain miles away.
