True!
But, I am not going to give up :) The only way to improve grind ability is to actually grind more. Going from say 120 to 150 to 180 to 210+ hours per month of grind won't come by accident. My goal is before Thailand to actually grind 30 days in a row with 8 hours of grind per day. Did some calculations post RB with 240 hours of grind and my win rate goes from 4k to 9k post RB which is my main motivation in this period. Also, with long grind, tons of spots come up which remind me where I find new edges an fix leaks + find ways to exploit new leaks.

Thanks for worrying :)

9.28 hours grind today

Graph:

HUD worked for the whole day!!!
Noticed new player types, especially tricky in HU while grinding this many hours. They put me to a lot of test and difficult decisions given that blinds go up and there is sometimes very selected hands you get that you can call down with. I appreciate having them in games even though they increase my variance but I learn and improve playing them, adjusting my strategy and adapting new game plan vs them as well.
Couple of sessions (1st and 2nd) were not so good with focus and lines. Then after 4th session I got into the rhythm and started playing my game. Some miss clicks also happened with 5 tabling but that will all come to its place.
Very happy with cEV for the day obviously despite being down 8 buy ins. Cleared 2 bonuses, 90 and 50$ , so for 9 hours grind I made 20$. Hourly like in coffee shop here in Serbia or working in super market - yeah baby!

Tomorrow have 2 guitar/music lessons that I am teaching and I will go for 8 hours grind + go for lunch in my favorite restaurant.

Thanks to these 8 hour grinds I have discovered even more spots for edges and range vs range study and I definitely plan to invest time in studying soon. Waiting for my friend elpsycho to join me sometime this week to go over specific spots.

Enjoy your week on and off the tables!

8.78 hours of grind today

Graph:

Theme of the day: tilt - which leads to rushed decision, not being in the moment, not enough momentum or playing in the zone, affected by loosing 3 10xs in HU. Also noticed that my 1st and 2nd session 5 tabling are not good these past days. Variance heavy day for sure but I could have prevented it on numerous buy ins. So many bad things I did today, its unreal. Huge lesson to take from this. Now I likely need full week to get this money back before I make additional 1.5k.

I won't give up 5 tabling. I will just rewire myself for start of the session by doing HH reviews with DB analysis (15-30 minutes). Also, decided to do before each grind session to do pull ups, push ups and squats. Will likely do 6 pull ups , 15 push ups , 15 sit ups and 20 squats. Since I will do minimum 8 sessions per day, that should lead to 48 pull ups, 120 push ups and sit ups and 160 squats. Will check how my muscles respond. I may need to do this type of training 3 times per week, every other day but definitely like the idea of this training.

So, today among the worse days focus wise in 3-4 out of 8-9 sessions. Rested well but too much coffee likely put me in hyper aggro mode at the tables + tilt triggers from loosing in HU as CL and huge favorite 10x 3 games and 1 25x as well. Other then that, need to work more on my game and consider stopping when this kind of tilt happens to prevent losses. I am not worried long run because days like today don't happen frequently enough to make me upset. However, minimizing losses on days like today is another key component towards improving win rate and polishing up mental game skills.

Tomorrow 3 guitar lessons and will go for 8 hours of grind + grab food from my favorite restaurant.

Enjoy the week on and off the tables!

P.S. Positive thing for today is that I cleared 100$ bonus so that minimized losses somewhat.

Played 5 sessions today, will do 3-4 more.
Just wanted to share graph since 5 tabling. 45 hours of grind since 10th of December (6th day today of 5 tabling), cEV a bit low (48) but running bellow EV 100 buy ins in 1.7k games.
Still want to grind spins for a living? ;)

7.32 hours today

Graph:

Similar story like yesterday. Last 2 sessions, tilt triggers all over the place, rushing and making some insane calls or shoves. Before those 2 sessions was playing solid, B game on average previous 4 sessions and had cEV over 70-80 during that time despite being down 30+ buy ins. Managed to get back to 0 and then last 2 sessions loose 34 buy ins.

Good things about today:
Used warm up in the morning and played best 2 sessions in those 6 days. I took out paper and wrote texture and range construction. Will continue to do this more every morning as warm up.
In the evening, did 1 hour db review before my final session of the day. Even though this helped me find things I was specifically interested in, it also took a lot of focus and energy. By the time I finished working with elpsycho, when I went to final it was passed midnight and my focus was nowhere near as in the beginning of the day.
Also, trained 6 times, before each session. Those exercises also tired my body - expect to have sore muscles in next 48 hours.

What to do in future?
There is couple of approaches. Since I am down over 1k in 2 days, despite variance happening I also had in those 15-16 hours of grind 3-4 sessions that were D game or worse. This is not acceptable level of play and it diminishes all the other sessions and hard work put into them.
So the possible solutions are:
- Keep 5 tabling
- Drop back to 4 tabling

If I keep 5 tabling, I need to drop hours of playing in a a way that I:
- Play most session during the day , not late evening (due to lack of energy, overall tiredness and lack of stamina to sustain it)
- Instead of 8 do 6 hours but spend 2 hours studying (HH, DB review and GTO ranges/game plan)

This will result in better results cEV wise for sure and increase win rate + get me to practice more 5 tabling which is very +EV still (post RB hourly 27.5$ from the graph I put on today for 5 tabling sample).

2nd option is to drop down 4 tables:

- Play again 7-8 hours
- Study 1-2 hours
- Grind during the day most sessions, consider cutting out night session due to tiredness

I have never felt this much drive to grind and study. I want to improve so much at Spins that this time next year I am crushing 30s and ready to play 60s. That is the goal while in the process increasing knowledge, hourly and making 50k$ minimum.
This swing has put me on a lot of mental test and my mind is set, I am not going back - I am going to work hard like fanatic to improve my win rate and dominate 15s and then 30s. From today, every day, 1 hour study. Will do in depth DB analysis and review my notes every morning before 1st grind session. After DB analysis is done for most troubling spots I will do flop textures with range vs range. Then I will move to HU game plan things, to improve and polish it. Finally, I will use CREV to improve all the tricky spots that appear in the games.

No more going back or staying in single place. I will report my daily studying here in blog in terms of minutes spent per day as well as if that particular study session benefited me immediately or was it just sort of review study.
Also, I want to do 210-240 hours of grinding starting today. Even with 20-30$ hourly post RB, those hours should be enough to exit this swing, make 1.1k to be at starting roll and then make additional money for Thailand.

Enjoy your weekend on and off the tables!

Study report for today part 1:

Spent 30 minutes doing study now. I covered 3 areas which are: DB analysis for HU; HU game plan (default and how to adjust it in relation to DB analysis) ; Range vs Range (finished yesterday's texture and did another one).

So very well invested 30 minutes. I will study 30 more minutes during the day. Will likely play 6 sessions today only but will aim to make them as productive as possible. Will continue to 5 table, if focus and tilt happen I will shut down tables and start 4 tabling as warm up.

Going to play 1st session for the day now - see you at the tables :)

Today only 1 grinding session!

Did study 1 hour in 2 chunks of 30 minutes each. 1st study session, I already covered in previous update. 2nd session I worked with CREV and took 1 texture to see optimal ranges and then how those are adjusted vs expected ranges that players play on that texture. Surprisingly, CREV gave me same ranges that I am currently using about 90%+ times for c bet. I did learn about some other hands that I was using but that was mostly due to bet sizing. Will apply this in future games and see what happens with such play.

Starting tomorrow, in next 5 weeks (4.5 realistically), I will go for 200 hours in those 28-30 days which is between 6-7 hours of grind. I will study 1 hour per day, dividing it in effective 30 minute studying session with maximum focus. I will continue to 5 table!

Idea is to make 1.3k to cover make up and then on top of that make money for Thailand. If that doesn't happen, I will let Thailand go and stay in Nis grind hard make money and go there when I feel financially secure enough.

So starting tomorrow in next 5 weeks, 200 hours of grind, with EV hourly of 25+$, that should bring 5k$ profit and make everything great. The sooner I clear make up, the reality for Thailand will be closer. Right now I don't see Thailand as option! All I care about is 6-7 hours grind per day, taking a day off per week (like I did today!) and to study steady and improve my win rate as well as hourly while 5 tabling.

Enjoy your weekend and stay on your toes for tomorrows study session updates and graph for 6-7 hours of grind!

Study report for today part 1:

30 minutes completed in the morning.
Visualized HU ranges and quizzed myself on them. Did more work in CREV by adjusting tendency on that texture I started.

In the evening plan to do DB analysis before bed time to apply those things in my game tomorrow.

2 sessions in + 1 guitar/music lesson.
Will grind 4-5 more sessions depending on focus - which has been good so far. In between sessions I do 6 pull ups. Noticed that its my 3rd day of doing it and I don't feel any muscle pain. Next week I will try with 7 pull ups per set and during the day do between 4-6 sessions every single day. Should ideally lead to 50 pull ups per day which is 300-350 per week - my favorite exercise and one that keeps me engaged to think about working out (like burpees).

I am always reading the blog. I've sometimes getting the feeling that you are the master of plans, but how well do you do with your master-plan?
It is easy to come up with new goals, challenges - but please make sure that you stay accountable to yourself and your goals. Obviously your goal of going abroad is always on the table, but when it comes to your poker game, I am seeing variations imho a bit too frequently:

For sure Sven!

I wrote many times before, will write again. The way things work in life for me are very flexible. My only intention and major goal for this year was to make money and pay off apartment mortgage for my dad using Spins. I did that in November and when it comes to whole year as far as I am concerned I am very happy! Other goals are side goals which are not 100% set in stone. In other words, they are very flexible for me. I want to continue and grind 8 hours per day but when I started to do it I noticed couple of really big things : 1) my focus later in the day falls and from 7-8 sessions 2 sessions are not played with B, B- game but way worse then that. 2) In the process of 5 tabling I noticed more edges that I need to work on and polish (despite the downswing I am in now) 3) Thirst to study and improve! Before I was content through out whole year to just grind and make 25$ per hour without studying. Now it is different. I want to crush the game so hard in a way that whatever spot comes I am at least 90%+ sure what my and opponent range looks like with different bet sizing and actions that come before or after it.
So in that sense, my goal to grind 8 hours per day will change. Grinding 8 hours per day won't improve my game! On contrary, it will keep it in the same place where it is. I need to go back in the lab and study every day minimum 1 hour and play 6 hours with focus + study with study partners.

With all this being said, now there is couple of things going on!
1) Past 2k games I am running bellow EV a bit over 2k$ , instead of being up 225$ I am down 1.8k. So now Thailand goal is very far out of reach. I would give myself at this moment 40% equity to actually cover the make up of 1.8k and make another 1.5k in next 4 weeks.
2) I restarted my studying habit and I want to keep it consistent and improve. Goal is this time next year not to be at 25$ hourly but rather to increase it to 35$ per hour minimum. To do that I can still play 15s but with crushing win rate, or play 30s with good win rate. Along the way I want to do tons of DB analysis, game plan adaptation, HH reviews, studying sessions with my studying partners and improve a ton.
3) I hired my HU hypers coach today! Tomorrow we will do 1 hour session, 30 minutes to discuss game plan and 30 minutes of live play. He is not playing poker full time any more but he is one of the people who helped me beat 15s-30s 6 max SNGs thanks to my work with him on 7s and 15s HU hypers. Now he can help me a lot - spot all the leaks that I have, check tendencies with me and tell me how to adjust immediately (since I will keep grind consistent)

So what is realistic?
Thailand should happen on 21st of January. I invested 650 euros for that trip (plane + accomodation) but I don't want to rush it an certainly don't plan on going if I am in make up at that point. Also, I don't plan to loan any money so that I go to beach for 10 days. I spent whole year paying off apartment mortgage. I don't want to have on my back weight of owing any money to anyone ever again. Which is why, if by 17th of January I don't have money that I need (make up covered + profit split for extra money for Thailand) I will simply not go to Thailand.
Grind wise, I will go for 6 to 7 hours on days that I play + study 1 hour and teach guitar/music. That is a lot of hours of activities where I have to be engaged and in focus, especially without break. So in that sense, I want to have about 5 days off in next 45 days. That leaves close to 40 days of grinding. 200 hours of grind is certainly reachable. I will go for more then that of course, but what I won't do is let tilt triggers due to tiredness and loss of focus push me to grind through but will rather take break even if that means grinding less that day.
Also, I will work with my HU hypers coach whenever he is available. He can help me so much and I expect my game to boost once we do 10+ hours together. I am putting all my free time (Between sessions and before) To go into PT4 and do DB analysis as well as run ranges in CREV and check how certain thing should be done while also reviewing (writting on paper) things from my game plan.

So, tons of things happening right now and in plan by 21st of January.
Whether I go to Thailand or not, that will not change my plans for 2017. Those plans are very simple:
- Improve hourly on 15s, improve knowledge, continue to 5 table, consistently grind
- Mix and move up to 30s, become a steady winner there
- Make 50k from poker and teaching minimum
- Take coaching and work with relevant study partners on my game
- Stay in Serbia in 2017 for the most part of the year and depending on results during the year travel to visit friends in Europe

My personal expectation is to grind minimum 5 to 6 hours 10 months in 2017. So 1500-1800 hours. With 30ish $ hourly that would bring me from 45-54k $ from poker alone. Even with 30$ hourly I will with music make additional 5k and get those 50k $. But I am not in it just for the money. I want to get all the doubts out when it comes to range vs range post flop on certain textures that cause me trouble. Once I do all these things, win rate will skyrocket and I can comfortably move up in stakes because they only things that are stopping me are : 1) doubt in my game plan (that its not ready for higher limits) 2) BR
BR will come with steady grind but doubt will only go away after 100s of hours of studying, experimenting with new knowledge at the tables and making those game plan adjustments my new high.

Response is a bit chaotic but hopefully it made sense!

Only thing I can promise poker related are things above for 2017. This year was very successful despite downswing I am in now. I am prioritizing studying and improving while pushing grinding at the same time. Remember, through the year my grind months were like 4 hours per day average at best (120 hours of poker). Now I will actually get to 150+ hours easily and not that, my plan is to get to 180 hours minimum on months that I grind in 2017 so that I reach 1.8k hours of grind in 2017 as that will bring me all the financial goals I have set for next year. Improvement wise - hard to tell. I won't give up, will study daily and work on improving but my brain has to accept all the new information, test it in games, try not to be biased when it doesn't work and move on. I know 1 thing for sure - for me to improve and reach new high, I need to accept that I will hit some new low 1st. For me this 2k downswing came at worst time (Thailand wise - likely not going there now!) but at the same time at best time improvement wise. Thanks to it I said to myself - no more going back, staying in the same place. It pushes me to work improve work hard and crush.

Save this post, use it for accountability for 2017.
Lets compare in 2017 my results and if I completed the goals set!

6.73 hours of grind today

Graph:

Swings continue. In previous update(s) I wrote about running over 2k under EV in 2k+ games. During the whole year I had 1 or 2 100 buy in swings and those were hard. This one seemed brutal yesterday and day before. Today I took it really well and my focus was strong.
Bluff catchers running in the top of the range post flop. HU post flop seeming like I am playing some GTO bots who adjust in real time to exploit tendencies. Whenever I had good hand, opponent was on top of the range. Pre flop all the all ins either getting crushed by nuts or loosing to recreational players. Also, very much card dead in a lot of spots pre flop when it mattered the most! BVB I felt absolutely card dead and whenever I did have something and opened, texture either missed me so hard or I got called down super light (with weak 2nd pairs or lower) on very wet run outs. In those 3 days I get the feeling that I lost at least 20 buy ins to super light calls. Great full that is happening because they will burn money long term with those calls and card distribution with my range vs range will change while theirs won't. At that point I will start taking huge stacks post flop and EV will go up with buy ins as well.

Great things about today:
- Grind with focus (all of the sessions) without tilting despite loosing another 10x with J9 on 99TxK where BTN had K9
- Studying 1 hour
- Work out in between sessions (did 42 pull ups!)
- Went to see comedy with a female friend
- Arranged session with my HU hypers coach for tomorrow
- Let me friends know that I will very likely not go with them to Thailand (the way things stand now!)

Study wise, happy with what I accomplished today. HU game plan review + quiz. Range vs Range on single flop with adjusted tendencies and optimal ranges for same spot. DB analysis for tendencies, taking notes for it and applying it in game.

Tomorrow couple of things planed:
- Studying 1 hour again, focusing on review of all my HU game plan notes preparing for session with coach
- Session with HU Hypers coach. Have all the questions and doubts prepared, discuss in 30 minute live play textures and range vs range. Record the session for review whenever in doubt.
- Grind 5-6 hours with strong focus and train between sessions (triggering both habits - train then get to grind)
- Family time, 7pm on, saints day celebration at cousins place

Since I will be out tomorrow from 7pm, not sure for how long, even 5 hours of grind would be phenomenal. I will of course prioritize tomorrow studying and working with coach.

Enjoy your weekend on and off the tables!

Study and session update:

Today spent close to 3 hours working on the game.
Took a texture that I have trouble with and learned new things in regards to range vs range on it. Wrote down notes how to play it on paper and will continue to work with it in the next days also.
Prepared notes and questions for session with my HU hypers coach. Like I was expecting, pre flop things are solid with accent on very specific adjustments. Post flop in live play 5 tabling, he spotted leaks and as I was saying in the previous update - most +EV play is to cut down grind and invest time in studying to improve in those tricky post flop spots and then resume long grind. That was coaches recommendation. He agrees with me that games are soft and field is soft.
Also did DB analysis and took out some more conclusions how to play in certain spots.

These past couple of days of studying have taken away certain doubts I had in my game for pre flop. Now post flop, there is work to be done for sure and the great news is I will do another session with my coach next weekend for which I plan to prepare 5 hands with complete thinking process and discuss those in 1 hour time. I am looking forward for him to spot leaks in my thinking process for those and to correct with his expectations and adjustments.
In the meanwhile I will study optimal as well as adjusted tendencies with CREV, take notes and apply those things in games. Expect to improve win rate with this approach.

Today only 2 short grind session (2x30ish minutes). In 2 hours I leave for Saints day celebration so I will grind 1 more to 1.5 hours more before it. If I come back before 11 tonight, I will add some more sessions.

Enjoy your day on and off the tables!

You´re super disciplined, super hard working, respect! But sometimes I think you expect just WAY too much of yourself. What about a nice reward for yourself? What about a nice treat? You deserved it! :f_thumbsup:

Thanks for your kind words Prim!
I took time off and treated myself with rewards in November. Celebrated apartment mortgage, went out a lot with friends, meet a girl that I am with now, played very little poker...
It is time to dedicate all my time to my poker improvement. I know I can crush this and I won't accept mediocre results. I see myself knowing all the textures with range vs range. I won't stop until I can take piece of paper and for different blind depths write out from memory optimal strategy as well as adjusted one for both IP and OOP on any texture. Results will follow!

P.S. Just got home from saints day celebration, time to hit the bed and be very productive tomorrow.

Today 6.28 hours of grind, 2 hours of studying

Graph:

Was 5 tabling and will continue to do so. Focus was solid and there were spots where I overplayed hand but also types of spots where opponent caught some hidden 2 pair type of hand when I was at top of the bluff catch range. So very interesting spots overall today. I will review all lost hands tomorrow before grinding, especially HU ones. Got 10x today and won it, which is always nice. Despite those post flop spots where bluff catchers or value calls didn't go through, there was tons of pre flop spots like bvb with 99 into QQ vs aggro reg who 3 bets pre 33% bvb :) Or from btn R/c AQ running into AK or AA KK and such.
So not worried at all about those spots. Just will focus on HU spots to find how many light plays happen and under which curcumstances. If the texture is problem to run it in CREV write out ranges for whole hand, study , review, quiz daily and move on!

Today very happy with how studying went. Reviewed difficult texture both IP and OOP and when I grinded whole day it came across bunch of times as well as variations of it. I felt much more in control of it and was value betting very well every single time it happened.

Plan for tomorrow is 6-8 sessions grind and studying 1-2 hours. Studying will focus on lost hands in HU and CREV texture with GTO and adjusted strategy.
If I grind less then 6 sessions I will very likely do 1 more study session and do DB analysis for very specific spot for REGs as well as general tendencies to adapt my game plan to it.

Overall feeling very good about 5 tabling despite results and running bad. Also happy with improvement these past days - range vs range is happening and I am very in control for that particular texture. By the end of the week I plan to finish it in full (turns and rivers), and then move onto ones that are a bit different from it which also happen a lot!

At this point I feel that all the texture studying in 2017 will bring amazing results. I am already seeing repetition in range construction despite GTO vs exploitable. I won't go too much into it here but those who did the work already know what I mean.
Very excited to finish those texture types which are troubling and most common and then resume grind in full - put it into 8th gear every day!

Right now about 2k in make up, not worried about it - positive I will clear it and make additional profit before 21st of January with current work ethic both off and on the tables!

Enjoy your week on and off the tables!

P.S. Today had very sour muscles from working out past 3-4 days without day off in between. Only did 6 pull ups and those felt extremely difficult with sensation in muscles like they were tearing apart. Expect my body to recover in next 24-48h and to resume this work out routine before each grind session (so 6 x 6 pull ups and do some push ups as well sets of 15).

Today 6.8 hours of grind

Graph:

Variance turning around. Played 2 10x games, won 1, another one lost with 2 overs + oesd where player called with 2nd pair weak kicker and held.
Through out the whole day, play was solid, average B game. I would say that there were HU games where I made mistakes and marked those hands for studying. Overall it was one of those kind of days where things were going my way. I didn't run into too hard opponents and in all in spots whether I was L/T R/C or 3bs, my hands held or got there. Won several 6x games, 1 10x and probably a lot of 4x ones. This added to very nice day profit wise 920$ post RB.

Now I have about 1.1k$ to clear make up and from that point on, all the money will go for Thailand budget. After day like today, my equity to make it for Thailand went up from 40 to 75% I would say.

Studying today:
Reviewed HU hands, lost ones from yesterday. Found spots where I overplayed hands as well as the places where I shouldn't have bluffed when general tendency on those run outs is for opponents never to fold bluff catchers. So that opened up my eyes a bit and made me pull brakes on a lot of textures today like that.
Reviewed HU game plan. That went very well also because in games I used a lot of times those new adjustments I made and they worked like a charm more often then not.
Reviewed difficult texture for IP range construction as initial aggressor. Now I have memorized whole flop and the idea of it I moved it to other textures of similar nature - which also made a ton of sense and it helped me a lot post flop. In a day or two I will have also OOP range memorized and then I will get to TURN and RIVER run outs to see how those ranges get affected.

Overall, studied around 1 hour today. No CREV study but I will do it now before bed time.

Training:
Did 6 sets, all before grind. Did 6x6 pull ups which was no problem, 4x15 push ups and 2x15 sit ups. Tomorrow I will go for 6 sets of all these exercises - depending if my body gets super tired or not.

TV Shows:
Past days while grinding had in the background lots of TV Shows. Finished Suits, now around mid 4th season of How I meet your mother. After that will move to another comedy type of show while expecting my new favorite TV Show's episode (Designated Survivor).

Plan for tomorrow:

- Grind 6 sessions minimum
- Teach 1 guitar/music lesson
- Study 1 hour minimum

Studying focus: 1) Review OOP range on difficult texture, quiz myself and make sure I can recall it all. 2) Check lost hands HU from today, mark the difficult ones for CREV analysis

Wish you a great week on and off the tables!
