You can ignore this next question if you want, but you mention meeting up with your ex so much... you sure she's your ex? :P :P :P

Its ok I don't mind the question really :)

We have great sex and outside of it we can talk and laugh. The reason why its not relationship is because we don't get along on crucial life things. For example I will not accept to be in the relationship with girl who doesn't support me playing poker for a living. Today is poker, tomorrow I might fly to moon you know? When I am in the relationship I want things to work out long term. Since there were triggers with her that indicated we don't share common views on very important things then its best to keep hanging out having good time.
When I find girl that will support my new career and job along with many other things then I can just be with her in the relationship - same goes for her, as soon as she finds somebody we will stop seeing each other.
Poker is stressful job and no poker player should have on top of that stress woman who will critique him for it along the way - its just big no no for me.
In the meanwhile no point of waiting, its better to have fun along the way ;)

Wow, you really made your choices..
My wife is constantly screaming about my poker, one day she supports me one day she curses me and poker and everything.. But I get used to it over time :) i think that all of us married guys get used to these stuff, so it's not stressful anymore

However, I can't be in your skin, and if you feel that she makes your life more stressful.. you probably made a good decision :)

Btw, nice results mate.

Cheers!

I like your attitude, always keeping things positive ;)
We are different in that sense and I will just share one story to illustrate why I don't approve of that sort of woman.

You have a bad day at the tables, loose 20+ buy ins, 300+$ and if you tell that to your woman she will go crazy and judgmental with stuff like "its my whole monthly salary and you lost it in poker" or stuff like "eventually things will turn and you will loose it all" :) Then you have winning day/week/month and she will be all happy cause maybe you decided to take her to some special place or buy her something etc.
The point is I want woman that will stick with me when I am under 100 buy ins DS and when I am winner. Just one type results oriented woman won't do for me cause then she didn't contribute anything except critique when things went "bad" when variance played its role :)

I am picturing now if I had wife and my day yesterday. After 1st session I was down over 20 buy ins (300$), and I managed in next 50 games to finish in profit 1-2 buy ins. Can just imagine wife coming in while I am grinding, seeing HM1 graph and going crazy ?(
That's why I am not married yet I guess , that and there is no Asian girls in Nis :f_love:

Thanks buddy for the results thing, I am playing really well and I take things day by day. If I feel tired that day to play 100 games, I might just play 50. Same things goes with my time management, there are important things that I must do but schedule itself is super flexible which makes me very happy.

Congrats on forum moderator avatar , you were very active since you joined PS and totally deserved !

Sure thing, I am still kicking it old school way, using HM1.
In the past tried HM2 , it has more advanced features and pop ups but I guess I dislike the fact that it crushed many times when I was playing. It pissed me off to constantly rerun hud to open and stuff like that.
HM1 on the other hand I am very used to using and find it super easy for HH review. Also I love how graphs look in HM1 vs HM2 and heard from many people that HM1 has more accurate graphs then HM2 etc

yeah, that's how women are, you better get used to it - Einstein said about this only "God invented the donkey, and gave him a thick fur!"

Dude, I am still puzzled about 15 tabling...

I have a 30 inch screen and hardly can manage 4 without losing quality on game. Maybe its because I old man from last century, I don't know, but 15 tables is just way off scope for me. How on earth do you do that?

:f_biggrin:

I guess I have to readjust to woman :f_eek:

It ain't hard to do , once you get to 10-12 increasing tables becomes a habit and you do it to increase your hourly and make your life easier.

My goal is to play as many tables as I can, have strong hourly and grind less time. By accomplishing this I get the chance to do whole other life stuff , versus grinding 6 hours a day when I would sacrifice minimum 2-3 activities I am doing now ;)

I guess you are right, loosing pre flop JJ vs Q9o as CL when result was 1-1 was crucial hand in my opinion. After that hand I was left with 5bb, didn't double up with AQ vs 87 (he got trips pre flop all in of course). And final game we both played really well but once we got down to 12bb or less there was so little edge and he won as it was typical nash vs nash clash.
If we played more games, things might have ended differently just the same way if I won with JJ that hand and took 2-1 lead , he might have performed worse under pressure and I could have won 3-1 in the end.
Either way when I think about it, opponent was very solid and playing him was very hard as there were less edges then vs previous opponents. Games could have gone either way so I am happy with my overall effort in those.

When I think about it, not really sure I want people seeing my HU play that I use in 6 max turbos as it will diminish my roi significantly So its good that it stays hidden this way and I am happy with top 16 , next year maybe one step more - hopefully I get better draw also :P

Ok grinded it out, went back to the transition from last year to this and glad I did, you have had quiet a bit of drama this year, all character building stuff. But one question did spring up and I am sure you won't mind me asking.

Early in Feb you hit a rough downswing of about 80 BI's and IMHO the blog felt a little bit like doom and gloom for a while. It sounded you were edging towards busto.:( Talk of dropping to $7's and eating into life roll did sound a little grim. But like the trooper that you are you pulled it back, but as a pro that you are should you be walking such a fine line or have I read the whole situation wrong?

Any way I am sure you have it all under control.

And BTW I figure I have spent about 6 hrs reading this today and have made some notes for my further study, a great resources this blog for all to benefit from :)

Regards

Steve

Hey Steve,

I don't mind you asking any question really. I keep this blog real with real life stuff going and I don't like bullshit of any sort of tricking anybody. As this is diary type of blog you can see what kind of things I went trough since July 2012 until now.

I am glad you read everything again and looked at it from different perspective.
Having said this, I can't say I agree with you about assumption you made regarding February downswing :)

I asked people following the blog to give their advice what they would do in my shoes cause I didn't feel safe with my bankroll cause of many reasons:

1) Money I was getting from coaching and staking I returned to my brother (almorst 1k euro in January alone)
2) In February I ended up purchasing rolls and make ups of my current students worth of 1.5k euro
3) I also staked my brother in February around 400 euro
4) January and February I spent well over 3k euro

Finally I had invested in staking about 2k euro, on Stars 100 buy ins and in my Skrill about 2.5k euro more.
I was never unsure about my game, I have experienced much worse downswings and as poker professional this is just part of the game.
I was more wondering what other pros would have done in my place : drop to 7s rebuild or play on 15s and look for staking later on. Some guys like MilanBurdych recommended dropping down while Tim recommended/supported refilling the roll if I felt like a winner on current limit.
In the meanwhile I talked to some people from which I got guarantee I would get no interest loan for my future roll if I busted + I was ready to go to bank and get a loan myself for rolls.
Basically I was not going to go to staking ever again unless I was coached with some sick huge value. For me that would be getting coached by Pleno, MBML, Internet, Shevtchenko to go for NL200 ZOOM SNE coaching + staking. Anything bellow that level is not worth investing myself into nor sacrificing my own hourly.

I basically put all the positive and negative sides of busting my roll or students going in downswing and figured out solution for each of the problems.
In the end I just went with my current roll to keep playing 15s cause I know I am better then 90% of regs there without table selection and that I can make easy no 1$ per game after rb on average. As far as my students went, if they went on DS I would loan additional money without any interest to stake them further cause I believe in them - same goes for me.

In the end what happened in February ?

I overcame DS and was profitable post RB 1.5k.
My students did awesome cause I had 60-70 hours of coaching with them + they worked super good on their own. One guy eliminated his whole make up (450 euro) and is in profit. Another guy who had 600 euro make up reduced it to 300 euro and the rest did really well.

Now in March I have more then enough money for my roll, students are making money and most importantly strategy I applied towards dealing with my situation and theirs produced awesome results!

I look forward to what March will bring but I already wrote about my March goals some posts ago.

The thing to get out of the poker is to always have additional outs!

For me those outs were :

- Never get involved with staking/profit sharing deal again unless it has sick value
- Loan money from friend you trust and that trusts you will return it
- Worse case scenario better get a bank loan then to return somebody twice as much money if you wore involved with staking

Speaking of variance , I went through 300 buy ins drop on WPT poker a year ago and now 40,60,80, 100 buy ins swings seem like a kinder garden for me :)

Hope that answers your questions Steve :)

nice read with a lot of useful info for all people involved in risky poker relations. Thanks for sharing that much Ivica.

One question, I'm curious,
Now when you succeeded to have your own bankroll and when you feel comfortable playing your game, would you consider being staked again in the future for some higher limits, or will you go up in stakes with your own development and when your own bankroll allows it?

Cheers,

Fran

Hey Fran,

I want to make clear, I didn't get involved into any risky poker relations. Nor did I ever say such a thing :)

I did say that looking back with all my knowledge and experience grinding winning money and getting stacked and coached, what would I accept in the future possibilities.

I would never accept somebody to stake me for 15s or 30s cause the difference in knowledge ain't that different.

I would for SNGs consider getting stacked from some super awesome SNG crusher that can show me recent win rate on 60s and 100s , provide me healthy bankroll for 30s-100s and coach me to have positive win rate there with 200 games a day using those games for example.

Same thing goes for cash game. I mentioned Pleno, MBML, Internet and Shevtchenko cause those guys on Poker Strategy are proven winners pre RB and make easily well over 5k + a month easy.
I am currently at 2-3k a month gap with way less then 100 hours of grinding with hourly close to 30$ a bit more or less depending on variance so to speak.

To answer your question, I would never accept staking to earn 5k and share that cash for example when I know I can make 2.5k alone on my own. The only thing I would need is money which I would rather borrow from a friend (not needing to return 2x as initial loan) or from bank (which again has less then 2x return of initial amount).
I also have a backup plan which is going - cruise ships playing some contracts (for 2k$ per contract, sleep + food included in the deals) or re-running my private + webcam guitar lessons program (which would earn me from 700 - 1.5k$ a month and would take much more time to rebuild my roll).

Again I would accept being staked and coached only by most recent winner and crusher who will get me to the level to make anywhere from 80 to 100k a year. I see myself and my goals aiming towards that as this year my goal is 30k post rb (with coaching I am sure I will reach this one easy).

Hope that makes sense and glad to see you here always with direct and good/strong questions :)
