Dear JB, grumpyGrandpa, Professor!

I feel honoured making the following blog post and I take my hat off to you Professor. This is one of the most entertaing blogs (probably even nr1) in our community with already 4000 posts

I don't necessarily admire your decision becoming a Math Prof @ Uni or your Chess, Uno or Monopoly skills.
However, I do like your style of writing, how you approach blogging and your overall life-gameplan.

It is impressive to see you being a role model and an inspiration for so many in our community. Your mindset is great and your balls must be huge:
Living everything BUT a baller poker pro lifestyle, pursuing a badly paid and undervalued job in a country where the weather sucks 365days/year while having a family that is testing your tilt resistance level to the maximum on a daily basis AND STILL managing to take on all those challenges with pride and confidence & simultaneously learning to swim in the pool of poker.

You are doing a great job of balancing all your responsibilities and I do believe all your Poker efforts are worth it in the end resulting in many $$$, a high level of confidence in your game, a certain degree of enlightenment and -last but not least- an excellent book.

You sir are a true ambassador of our community. :f_cool:

Thanks chaps. This place is the complete opposite of my house. There, everyone's mean to me, even though I'm really nice to them, and here I'm mean to everyone, and everyone's nice to me....except for Toby and Boris ofc.

I like TT's idea of playing some NLHE on PH. I'm going to grind PL 5CD for the rest of the month so that I can get gold star on Pokerstars, but next month, I can imagine playing two or three tables of 5CD on my laptop, and a couple of tables of PH NLHE on my other monitor, if I can be arsed to get it out. Sounds like a good way to get back into Holdem. I just hope HEM and PokerHands don't get into a fight and hurt each other. A quick calculation suggests that I could get platinum on PS next month if I stuck with 5CD, but tbh, I can't really see the point.

I feel that combining the phrase "sticky bucket of man love" with an Elton John video is unnecessarily courting disaster.

I'm glad to see you're not adding to my bucket. I see you and me as traditional, firm handshake kind of guys.

I got home from chess last night (I drew a dreadful game and don't want to talk about it :f_cry: ) and managed to play for just long enough to get gold star on Pokerstars, so I'm going to have the night off poker tonight as I think mrsjb is feeling neglected. This means that November is over, so I can review it.

Looking back at my review of last month and comparing my BR to its level then, I find I have played 16K hands of 5CD and made $1.7K :f_o: ! I can't quite believe it tbh, but the money's sat in my accounts, so I suppose I have to. Given that I'm now four tabling 1/2 PL 5CD, that's about $60/hour. I calculate that my day job earns me about $40/hour after tax, so I'm pretty flabbergasted. I suppose I ran pretty well this month, but even so....

Anyway, the plan for next month is more of the same, but, as suggested by TT, I'm going to play some NLHE on Poker Heaven, where, if I include the first deposit bonus, I'm effectively getting 50% rakeback. I'm not quite sure whether to play 5CD and NLHE consecutively or simultaneously. Maybe two tables of 5CD on my laptop and two of NLHE on the second monitor would be OK? I think my 5CD game is at the point where most decisions are fairly easy (fold, fold, fold.....) so most of my attention could be on the NLHE. I will probably start with NL25 as it's in euros and see how I get on. I can't get my usual stat filled HUD to work on Poker Heaven. I just get the default HUD, but I suppose that'll do for now.

I ended up at a 5CD table with EVGalois a couple of nights ago and asked him about PL 5CD BRM, and he suggested 400bb, which seems quite aggressive, but does mean I could think about playing 2/4 when it runs, although I'm a bit scared of all that money.

I've also been thinking about the best amount to buy in for at PL 5CD. In NLHE, with four betting rounds, a buy in of 100bb is roughly enough to have stacks in by the river with four pot sized bets. In PL 5CD, with just two betting rounds, two pot sized bets is about 12bb, which seems a bit small. I usually buy in for 30bb, which means you can 3bet, get called, and still have a pot sized bet left. Some people buy in for the maximum, which is 100bb, which just seems super, super deep to me, like playing NLHE with 1000bb. I think 30bb just makes your postdraw decisions easier, and you can happily get stacks in usually with > flush (not entirely sure about this). Ofc, if you run well, you end up deeper and it gets trickier. This week I stacked off fairly deep twice against the same opponent, once queens full > jacks full, and then aces full > kings full. This could explain my burgeoning bankroll. After each hand he typed something in Ukrainian into the chat box, followed by 'sukaaaaaaaaaa'. Left me bemused. I even apologised after the second one.

Enough for now. I need to go earn $40/hour. :f_mad:

It's on the boss network. I haven't played any NLHE yet, but the 5CD games seem soft. Only problem is that they hardly ever run, and the highest I've played is 50c/$1. Everybody seems to want to play 7-A 5CD, which is 5CD with the 2,3,4,5,6s removed. I may try this, but I don't have a good feel for relative hand strengths and frequencies yet. What is clear is that OESD>flush draw (count the outs :) ), and that playing small pairs is a bad idea.

Recording it.

Me: We need to pause this so I can record a documentary about Bobby Fischer.
Mrsjb: Who's Bobby Fischer.
Me: You're kidding right?
Mrsjb: No.
*Continues in same vein for a while*
Mrsjb: Shall I find out if anyone on Facebook has heard of Bobby Fischer?
Me: No, because you'll just embarrass yourself.
*Throws remote control at me again. Misses groin this time.*
Mrsjb: We'll see.

Am I being mean?
