I suffered a real life bad beat last night. Mrsjb calmly informed me that my mother-in-law, her two dogs and my niece and nephew (5 and 10
) are coming to visit on Wednesday and staying until Saturday. My m-i-l is harmless but mental, her dogs are harmless but mental, and the kids are, well, they're kids. You might deduce from this that our house is some sort of country palace with endless bedrooms, but in reality it's an ex-council house with three bedrooms. This means that, quite apart from the pandemonium, the running around screaming and the barking (and that's just my m-i-l), at bed time we have to crack out the two sofa beds, which basically fill up the whole of downstairs. I may be able to play some poker. I may be able to watch the telly with mrsjb and mrsjb senior, but basically, whatever I do, I'm going to be stressed and grumpy.
We have the big final game of the chess season tomorrow night. The team that always wins the league, and frankly are a bunch of tossers, are one point ahead of us and we have to play them at home. So, if we win, we win the league, and are county champions for the first time ever, and if we draw or lose, we come second. It's a real Man U v Man City moment for us, and tbh, I'm bricking it. The only good thing is that I can use it as an excuse not to come home until after 10pm when the mayhem will, I hope, have subsided a little. Actually, what usually happens is that mrsjb invites them all with a smile on her face then kicks the buggers out early, saying 'Never again!'. The most annoying thing is that I'm going to be away all of next week. Why couldn't she have invited them then? Why? Why???
