Turned on the radio this morning and found myself listening to someone talking very reasonably about the Tories abolishing child benefit payments for the undeserving middle classes (that's me), and pointing out that it penalizes stay at home mothers (that's mrsjb) over couples that both work. Bastards! Turns out I'm listening to 'Thought for the Day' which I usually turn off. It was the Bishop of Liverpool. He spoilt it later my opining that the bible uses the word 'household' instead of 'family' which is subtly different, as if it hadn't been translated a zillion times (Aramaic -> Greek ->.......). Doh! I also found out that if the Tories have their way, it'll be easier to get a visa for a nonEU premiership footballer than it will for a nonEU Nobel prize winning scientist. This does not surprise me. Finally, I found out that when Marks and Spencers started selling avocados in 1968, they called them avocado pears, and loads of people bought them, peeled them, cooked them, served them with custard and complained that they were horrible! What a cosmopolitan race we Brits are.
No poker for me last couple of days. First match of the chess season last night. I was hoping to present a masterly tactical game where I relentlessly crushed my opponent. Sadly, it was a series of misconceptions and blunders that put the Delhi commonwealth games to shame! Not for nothing did I choose my username. Last blunder loses is the rule here.
This should be an easy win (I'm white). But, being impatient I thought I saw a winning pawn ending.

I take the opposition and win. But doh! Ofc without the pawn on g4 it's an easy win, but all black has to do is make sure he takes the opposition when I take on g4, which ofc I must.

Had a pleasant evening sweating with Asimir and Rorrish. We decided it would be more more interesting if I played SH BSS. Had fun trying to be a LAG. Note the amusingly loose stats in the box below. We found plenty of fish and did indeed have a good time, even though I only played one table. 
Thanks for bringing those few good hands at the end of my session... it made my day...
BSS SH seems like a really good game to play... specially when sweating. I think it could be a great way to start studying and playing it too... reading Easy Game and Poker Bluepring should be a necessary before doing that but...
maybe next week we all play BSS SH for fun
I've just had enough of shortstacking now. Bollocks to the bonus! I've withdrawn my BR, which has shrunk to $844, from stars and moved it to FT. I'll be playing the $6.50 FR turbos from tomorrow.

Horror accident, knife attack? Nope. Phone out of credit, wandering around town, doesn't know what to do. Calls an ambulance to take him home. Aaaaaragh!

On the other hand... isn't an ambulance a more expensive way of getting a cab?
As I remember(or assume) here in austria, they don't cover you getting wasted in your health insurance so for any injury or alcohol poisoning you can be pretty sure you pay about €600 for ambulance intervention :tongue:...

Had a very nice afternoon out Fineshade Wood near Corby. Recommended for walks and nice play area for kids. Didn't seem to help number one son's hangover much, but that made it even more amusing. Coffee at cafe best avoided though imo.
Played my first sets of $6.50 turbo SnGs on FT tonight. I decided I'd play sets of six and try to review after each set. Will try to be a 'learner' not a 'grinder' as it says in The Poker Blueprint! First six I busted in all of them, but felt spewy and rusty. Felt much better in the next 13 (added one after busting out QQ v AK early), and got three 1sts and two 2nds (3rd is for losers! ♦ ) for -$10. Overall, pretty happy. And having Basic Boris railing me and trying to tilt the other players was amusing, but slightly offputting (thanks Boris!).
I can also see that I'm soon not going to have gold status for much longer after this change of game but I think I'll live.

I think he's already tried that with his friends, and it hasn't put him off yet. Is that how you kicked the habit?
to be honest i used to drink a lot, but the more i drank the more i got sick of that
+ since i started to do sports i have no need to drink (maybe i get drunk once in 3,4 maybe 5 months).
its all about setting. its not the drink itself that causes shame, its the glaring eyes of your parents , lol.
whereas if your sitting there with a bottle of (insert your fave here) with 5 friends, all of a sudden its acceptable.
