I was listening to the radio on the way in to work this morning. It was a balmy 5C, although the snow is due back at the end of the week. Started with Thought for the Day (always a favourite), and found out that we are currently in Advent, and that it's not all about presents! No. It's actually all about being judged by God on the Last Day. He rather spoiled the doomy message by saying that he was having psychotherapy. If had to choose between being judged by God and being judged by Freud, I think I'd find it hard to decide. I hope he's getting some ECT too.

This reminds me that I found out last night that my daughter is going to play Mary in her preschool Nativity play. I am ridiculously proud of this, as I see it as confirmation that she is beautiful and talented. Although there is the nagging thought that it shows the preschool teachers think she's the child most likely to be able to pass off unwanted pregnancy as divine intervention.

There was also a bit about Silvio Berlusconi, who I find endlessly entertaining, and I started thinking about which politician I'd most like to have dinner with. Can you imagine dinner with David Cameron? Having to listen to his stories about fagging at Eton? Bleurch! There's a strong temptation to choose Nick Clegg, just so I could tell him what I think of him. I reckon Gordon Brown would actually be quite entertaining, although I'd probably end up staring at his glass eye. My top choice would be Silvio, as long as he was paying, and as long as I could bow out once he started ordering cocaine and prostitutes.

And finally, one of my PhD students came to see me yesterday and said,' Oh! And my doctor has told me I'm actually quite autistic.' What's the correct reply to that? I just said it was an occupational hazard, and resisted the temptation to say 'LDO!'.

I thought that was exactly the reason you wanted dinner with him ?(

Btw, about your hands. When the 3rd J falls in your last example, people will never believe you you hold the case J (regs and fish alike), so it's not a good spot to bluff. It is a good spot however to overbet when holding it and mess with people heads. You never know when a guy like that one decides to herro call his pair of sixes.

I'm not really a cocaine and prostitutes kind of a guy. And quality control can be an issue with these things when you live out in the countryside like I do.

Yes. I agree. I think what I need is a coach who can teach me how to control my aggression and use it appropriately. :f_biggrin:

And one of my PhD students just came into my office and told me his wife has just successfully delivered their baby, and gave me a box of chocolates! Apparently where he comes from (Iraq) this is the tradition. I told him he should definitely think about having another one!

<===Cash noob, but... is it even a good spot for the 2nd barrel ? Is his range really that heavily weighted towards random floats, I don't see what he comes with us on the flop with that folds after the 2 falls ?

Place of birth or tradition ?

Box of chocolates and the autism bombshell all in two days, nice balance.

Well quite. Jb = aggrospazzlagtard. Frankly, I'm amazed at how often this approach works though. Just not on this occasion. :f_cry:

Baby, but you knew I meant that didn't you you cheeky chappie.

The secret to successful PhD supervision is to have enough students that for each one you'd like to strangle, there's one to give you chocolates, or the mathematical equivalent of chocolates.

My Amazon Kindle arrived yesterday. It's just fantastic. I've taken all the poker pdfs that people have given me and put them on it. I can now throw away the huge pile of poker paper that I printed out. I've been in a state of multiple nerdgasm since it arrived, but I'm starting to recover now. Mrsjb is nonplussed, but number one son clucks appreciatively at it too.

Decided I needed to spend some quality time with number one son last night, so no poker. We watched 'The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo' on DVD. This was a very good murder mystery, although I wasn't entirely convinced of the entertainment value of watching lots of brutal rape scenes. Those dirty old men always get their comeuppance though. Next time I see a middleaged man who looks a bit grubby, I think I'm going to set fire to him. A good excuse to avoid the pure mathematicians.

I've been thinking about buying a kindle myself for quite some time, although given my late poker results it will probably have to wait some time :(

there are always situations when people won't call you because they're certain they're behind and there are always situations when you can whack an over pot size bet because people will call you light.

aka if flop is 699, turn 5, river 9 and you hold the case 9 while the villain holds something like 77-TT, you can always go crazy with that bet slider, because he won't give you the credit for the nuts and most likely will put you on some 6x rag hand which thinks it's safe to donk it now as it's a "split pot" - while you snicker in the background like Wile E. Coyote in wait for the fish to fall into the trap.

I'm sure he's seen worse on the internet. He once repartitioned the hard disc on his computer so that he had a login that bypassed the parental control software I'd installed. His appetite for porn is limitless. But then he is a 15 year old boy.

Why would you use parental control? That's the kind of thing that will get your son into hacking and soon will mess with NASA shit..

A few years ago parental control would be fine and probably he wouldn't try to bypass it but after the age of 14 there's no chance that will stop him :f_cool:

Sounds like a good kid to me (no sarcasm). It's good to hear that he has some healthy interests.

I am smarter than him. He is now blocked. He'll have to use his imagination.

Came in to work in mrsjb's car today as my car's at the garage. Radio didn't seem to work, so I had to make do with her CDs and was too lazy to change the CD already in the player. It was Take That. It was actually rather good. I can't work out what's wrong with me. I thought I was playing out my midlife crisis through the medium of heavy rock, but I now seem to be developing a taste for pop! Since I'm not gay (well, I'm open minded, but of the thousands of blokes I've met in my life, I've never wanted to have sex with any of them, so I reckon that's me stuck with being straight), I can't understand why I liked the bloke who won the X Factor, and am appreciating Take That. It's just weird.
