Dirty tactics?

Angle shooting?

Aren't things like that banned under the Geneva convention?

Mr.JB,

I think you should decide what game you prefer to play during this period of your life because it is known that mixing games can lead to big confusions. _biggrin:

Actually, that's pretty close to my style of chess, at least when things go according to plan, which isn't often.

Just finished a break even session, which is quite an achievement for me given that I've dropped 10BI over the last two or three sessions. Felt fairly happy with my play. I tried a new way of getting warmed up tonight. On the basis that my problem is too much spewy bluffing and not enough folding when I meet resistance I played an hour of 100/200 play money rush. Why would I do this? I know that NL10 is nothing like this, but it forced me to sit there, never, ever bluff (cbets don't count), never call if raised, and value bet, value bet, value bet. I made 100K play money chips, which is worth about $0.0000000000001 at the current exchange rate. Maybe NL10 played out like this six or seven years ago. I don't know. Try it. I kept catching myself thinking 'Hmm, that's a good scare card. I could bluff here.' But managed not to. If I can make this my default play, and adjust from there (like knowing the Nash ranges for SnGs and adjusting to the opponents), I'd do better. It makes me think I should have started at NL2, but I'll stick with NL10. Sadly, I'm realizing that there's more to it than 'value, value, value and don't pay off' at NL10, although this works well for play money.

And tomorrow? Mmmmmmmm, rakeback! :f_cry:

I go to play money rush tables just to shove AI every hand when I feel can't play seriously... after a few mins I get in the mood to play for real. :f_biggrin:

Apart from KK vs AA I think all the other hands are misplayed by you.

QQ: You 3bet a guy that raises early with QQ which isn't terrible but you should know you don't run that well against he's calling range. When player behind flats it sucks even more to play 3b pot OOP and when OR 4bets it's an easy fold.

JJ:If you 4bet you turn this hand into a bluff without any solid history. Call 3b IP imo. Calling all in.. well... you know...

TT:If BU 3bets a lot vs UTG you can 4bet/fold but never call a shove with TT. Just ask TT! :f_biggrin:

LE: I guess that's not what I should have done... 'Cause it doesn't really help whatsoever, does it? HU for play money rollz ?! :f_cool:

QQ: 'spose
JJ: He was 3betting 25%
TT: Pure tilt.

HU for play money rollz? OK. Sunday night.

I'm not playing for money any more until I've had a session with TT. Not expecting a miracle cure though.

On the positive side, at least I met my volume goal this month. :f_biggrin:

didnt u watch nikachu's vid prof? :f_p:
better watch it again. do your homework!

- hand 1 is a waste of time to poste. KK u can dev value 3b coz ppl (like u still unfort) massively overplay TT-QQ, AK. good decision, move on. outcome doesnt matter at all.

- JJ i would call ip otb vs blind battle. but stacking if he is aggro is also ok but the more aggro he is, on those limits i expect ppl to be totally polarised ==> call >>>>>> 4b! 4b bluff like crazy, but flat AK, TT+

- TT fold pre. u rly should also post your thought process here. dec massively -ev! (i know TT is nutz, but not in that spot :f_p: )

we'll discuss all those hands monday ;)

I hope you're taking good book notes on the frustration factor you're experiencing. I think this aspect is horribly under appreciated by new/micro limit players and I think the fact you're experiencing them is actually seriously positive for the product you'll end up with.

I suspect you're going through the "these guys are horrible, I'm not great, but not horrible, how can I keep losing to these muppets?" stage of the mindset development process.

The best possible thing you can do is understand, and I mean completely accept, the following:

You can only control your own play.

You will get better and better the harder you study.

Results are meaningless, all that matters is how you play, how much you study. Maybe that could go on a monitor postit note: Results are meaningless!

Now that you are putting in volume and seriously working to get better, you are at a more vulnerable point from a mindset perspective, especially when results don't seem to be coming. Further, writing a book seems to be putting additional pressure on you to get results, as a justification for your and TT's time, I would guess.

It is an important stage you're at and I think once you get to grips with where you're at you will have taken a major step forward in the objectives of both improving your playing ability and producing a quality work on the experience of beating micro/low limit NLHE.

Hope this isn't too much of a ramble, and that you don't dismiss it out of hand (which at one time I would have been guilty of doing).

Oh, and just to confirm, by that image you posted, you were suggesting holding a gun to your head and and not:

a. growing a goatee/manscaped facial hair.

b. becoming a Derren Brown lookalike/fanboy.

c. discovering a dress sense (you're a maths prof, so obviously the two are mutually exclusive in 100% of cases).

d. trying to play poker using only one hand, whilst the other is occupied holding your.... erm.... gun.

I agree with everything you wrote, but this in particular. I really need to get to grips with this. However, I'm not sure that 'noob fishdonk blows roll in first month of cash games' isn't a good place to start from.

a. growing a goatee/manscaped facial hair.

I posted my only facial hair story in the 'Grow Your Mo' thread, but I'll quote it here for info.

I am reminded of the time about 20 years ago when my ex-wife said to me 'Why don't you grow a moustache?'. I said, 'Because it would look stupid.' She said, 'You' re just chicken.' I said, 'OK. I will grow a moustache.' I grew a moustache, and she took lots of photos. Kept it for about a month before she said 'Your moustache looks stupid. You should shave it off.' I shaved it off. For months afterwards, she showed the photos to our friends, saying 'Doesn't jb's moustache look stupid.' She was a cow. Current mrsjb a major improvement. Will not be growing another, but good luck all.

b. becoming a Derren Brown lookalike/fanboy.

Sadly I am already a huge Derren Brown fanboy.

c. discovering a dress sense (you're a maths prof, so obviously the two are mutually exclusive in 100% of cases).

Weddings and funerals only.

d. trying to play poker using only one hand, whilst the other is occupied holding your.... erm.... glass of wine.

FYP, although I have been very abstemious lately.

wrong imo except for TT. all hands standard except that one. if you're playing with stats you can take better lines for some of those hands (r/c JJ, flat QQ etc)
