about the tables- i see that for me the best way to go is 2 tables when learning / trying somthing new and 3 for grinding... i can totally agree with you, that by rushing through the hands its really easy to miss little value spots and small uncontested pots. couple BBs here and there and u end up with completely different bb/100... + blind out way less money when playing less tables and squeeze the maximum out of every hand.
First of all I got to say I really enjoy reading your blog! Good job on that!
Well I was wondering if I could maybe get a couple of tips from you or even a coaching or something for NL10 Zoom SH.
I added you on PS so if you are interested let me know and maybe we can exchange skype IDs?
Turn:(15.32 BB, 2 players)6♥ UTG checks, Hero bets 7.96 BB, UTG raises to 15.92 BB, Hero raises to 26.64 BB, UTG calls 10.72 BB
greatly dislike this turn 3b sizing. he's playing Jx as face up as he could and i want him to feel commited with it on the river
River:(68.6 BB, 2 players)3♦ UTG checks, Hero bets 89.12 BB and is all-in, UTG calls 67.76 BB and is all-in
Hero shows 6♦6♠ (Full House, Sixes full of Jacks) (Pre 54%, Flop 7%, Turn 84%) UTG shows J♦A♣ (Three of a Kind, Jacks) (Pre 46%, Flop 93%, Turn 16%) Hero wins 196.12 BB
russian pro (i mean not really). this was pretty sick because he really played it like the nuts, he probably actually thought he had the nuts since he called somehow
Flop:(13.6 BB, 3 players)6♥2♠T♠
BB checks, UTG requests TIME, UTG checks, Hero bets 9.6 BB, fold, UTG requests TIME, UTG raises to 19.2 BB, Hero requests TIME, Hero raises to 184.48 BB and is all-in, UTG calls 42.8 BB and is all-in
and now here's a tutorial on what NOT to do (or "how to ruin your microlimits winrate in 1 step")
calling rivers with decent bluffcatchers is not how you make money at nl25, actually it's the other way around (sure there are some spots for it but first you get a good read, not calldown by default)
here are the worst of these calls, just so that you don't think that i'm a solid player or anything:
forget all the bs about hearts busting, top of range (its actually not) or something - he's playing his value hand face up (he wasn't too aggro, strong postflop sizings) river is the easiest fold and i knew it. even 76 got there so i have absolutely no excuse
WTF I DONT EVEN
unknown reg-looking. either he is shipping his face up overpair, or he is 3betting wide/shipping enough AK combos or whatever/following through with FD or random bluffs on the turn with a high frequency on a board where overpairs don't like folding. we all know what's more likely
River:(93.4 BB, 2 players)8♥ Hero checks, BTN bets 107.16 BB and is all-in, Hero requests TIME, Hero calls 78.52 BB and is all-in
BTN shows Q♥Q♠ (Full House, Nines full of Queens) (Pre 82%, Flop 88%, Turn 95%) Hero shows J♣J♠ (Full House, Nines full of Jacks) (Pre 18%, Flop 12%, Turn 5%) BTN wins 242.44 BB
and here's the less bad (but still bad) of these calls. villain was 1-tabling fishy-looking with pretty much 100% aggression over a very small sample.
what i should have noticed, though, is that he had already won another stack in the other showdown, so it might be his run like god day which must be respected
these were the worst ones, you don't have to tell me how bad they were (though you still can i guess)
i'd like to remind everyone (and myself) of the pretty useful Microstakes River Spot Theorem:
Originally posted by Tomaloc whenever you get to the river and face a big bet from a microstakes regular, you can fold all your 1pair or worse hands regardless of the previous action.
i'm just being proved over and over again that, as far as i don't have a reason to deviate, i shouldn't. easy right?
now, is that actually a pokerstrategy chart? ♦ i'm not quite sure myself, where's the ps logo, and what game type is that chart for?
in any case i found it pretty amusing and figured it would be worth it to make a quick unfunny image macro out of it because hey, why not. was fun
that cat really looks pretty interested, i bet he's crushing high stakes by now. glgl
well what can i say low volume, low everything, bad play, lost a little amount of monies, pretty garbage week pokerwise.
mostly of that can be easily traced to screwing up my sleeping schedule (again! i do this every time), mostly my own fault and partly the fault of the chess world championship
i could "easily" end up in the + had i played somewhat better and, most importantly, folded rivers. still well, idk, i'm fine and river lesson was learned (or remembered) i guess.
what's with the one day late weekly updates? damn procrastination, man
anyway here goes the current monthly:
after weeks 1, 2
Spoiler
week 1
week 2
after week 3(i'm too lazy to filter this specific week)
Spoiler
also made some nice side monies running good in drunk nl10:
Spoiler
so yeah, what can i say. life is great ♦
technical play:A studying:C luck:pretty darn sexy
must be mentioned that volume was pretty low, though. sleeping schedule still bad ♦
so i didn't play much, but when i played i was mostly pretty focused and aware of what was going on.
only one spewy river call against fish, not too many random spazouts, though they happened ♦ otherwise i'm pretty happy in general, though still def not S grade play.
and with regards to luck... heh, that was really cool. i had really forgotten what it was like to run good in nl25
had quads vs top set 150bb, one straightflush (which got paid!), and, most importantly, when i bet/bet/bet vs fish they finally (mostly) actually had worse and paid me off instead of making these sick tilting minraises on the river, i mean... well, you know what i mean.
tip (note to self): when you have a good hand against fish, just bet big, i mean like at least 80%+.
probably missed at least $15 or something by not trusting their calling skillz i think it was something unconscious due to being rivered and self-valueowned rather often in the previous weeks.
River:(71.4 BB, 2 players)A♠ Hero bets 64.52 BB and is all-in, BTN calls 64.52 BB
turn bet is too small. i knew i was sizing up a river shove but this ended up being too close, anyway he snapped me on the river so w/e
i don't plan to be posting too much in here this month because bootcamp and stuff, probably going to post more in there. still going to give at least weekly updates here though
this was the nl25 graph for the month:
Spoiler
there was also some decent volume and great winrate in nl10, which i should really stop playing forever because i am already almost rolled for 50 and am doing at least ok in 25
obv is obv, things are at least ok, but i have a clear weakness in volume. i keep looking for reasons to not play, or to play in nl10 instead, etc
sarvam's video is cool, it's these things that we all know but need to actually punch ourselves in the face to do it.
i've got some plans to improve in this month, will post more in the bootcamp thread
not even in a mood to write, as you might have guessed i'm writing just after the two huge drops in the end, second was one of these painful ones vs fish with 5% eq on the turn ♦
as you can see from the huge swings in the graph, so many coolers and stuff everywhere (i was on the right side of some too), i don't even know how to evaluate it so far. really hate it when it just feels like stacks are flying everywhere and you feel like you don't have any control over it.
i know that's poker and stuff, but that doesn't keep me from hating it.
technical play:hell if i know(results orientation pls) studying:B luck:i have no idea
how do you approach these weird stretches?
something like the thingy in the spoiler seems like a good idea, though that requires not being lazy. FML
River:(36.92 BB, 2 players)A♥ UTG checks, Hero requests TIME, Hero bets 13.32 BB, UTG raises to 60 BB, Hero calls 46.68 BB
i effectively have the second nuts, but my hand really looks like Ax so i want to induce some lightcalls/bluffraises as i am probably perceived to be capped. sometimes you get more than you ask for
yeah, btn is a reg who i expect to be betting like 100% in that spot so i decide to c/c this particular holding and "guarantee" seeing a turn card for a decent price as i will get to see BB's action, and getting a free card isn't a disaster either.
i have the best hand often + he barrels my outs, i am not perceived to have fd when i check also bb might call too and improve my odds.
when people take longer to act i mostly expect them to be more bluff heavy than usual. it's like, when people have a value hand, they just go ahead and do it, but when they bluff they have to consider stats, spot, etc.
think it was a decent spot for him, co (me) is usually giving up often + btn is betting rly often, weak ranges, not many value hands possible, take the monies.
if he snapraised i would probably fold, just felt he was full of it pretty often. the range i was most afraid of was btn's.
that said, obv both of them have sets from time to time, and what i hate about my line is that if one of them shoves i probably have to fold, which would be a huge waste of equity. i wouldn't fold ingame though
calling the c/r must be better, my line looks strong regardless and btn often folds when i will be ip and might be able to take it down against air later. sometimes one/both of them also have a dominated draw which is cool ♦
Just read your entire blog! Brilliant read! I haven't been playing poker long and am currently playing NL5 zoom, this has given me a insight to how it's possible to move up! Look forward to reading more posts...keep it up mate.

I wonder if 'time to act' reads are often overdone? 95% of the time, the time it takes me to act is dependent on how much action is going on around all the tables I have open. Time bank tanking is purely me running behind schedule. Which happens constantly. The other 5% is me thinking about ranges, what to do & ideal bet sizing. I think it's split pretty even between value and bluffs.
The only 'timing tell' I really like is waiting a few seconds before calling down value hands against fish.
A worse 'tell' that regs seem to be going nuts with lately is 'bet sizing tells'. It seems there must have been some uber video that came out a week or two ago I missed. Where it recommends if someone bets less than 2/3 of pot, or god forbid 1/3 or 1/4 of pot, then it's not because of board texture and ranges. Instead they are obviously weak and it's a good time to spew away and bluff raise with zero equity.

yeah, i totally get what you are saying, and i agree. i also make a little bit of effort to snap my bluffs and tank my value, specially preflop sometimes i just intentionally get close to timebank for everything too.
i usually don't read too much into timing and betsizing either, it's just something to consider sometimes as a little extra aid. my gut feeling was like "heh interesting" and since he took a while that tipped the balance towards bluffing.
fucking lazy procrastinating as fuck.
there are lots of monies to be taken, i actually have to take them though
also i'd like to blame variance for both the amazing nl10 results and the awful nl25 results.
right now i'm hungover sitting here staring at a ~$1400 roll, but i don't want to move up to nl50 without fixing this nl25 winrate first. i am taking some steps towards doing it (improving my game)... maybe?
