Tbh I have no idea what hands make sense as bluff. Though he probably dont want to be x-r anyway. But turning top pair into bluff is certainly not a thing. I guess he was kinda trapping preflop by checking.

So for EP to continue on flop is massive overplay. He only has bottom wrap and when two opponents show strength on JT flop its very likely his draw is dominated. This time he had around 16% equity if I remember right.

I really hated turn on this one. Situations change quick in this game... :f_eek:

Also river is kinda bad as now villain value range is only boats or quads. I block nut flush and I doubt he would value weaker than that. But yeah there are some K4, 46, 4T and maybe occasional bluff.

Well I also got some nice pots versus this first hand felow:

He opens SB and I called. Flop he cbets close to pot, I raise pot and we get it in. Well I think his play is ok though I kinda hate that spot in villain shoes. Other option would be to call and try to look for blankish turn before committing. Sort of problem is that I dont have really any stack off hands that he would be crushing.

Then there was this one where he plays pretty optimistic preflop. I 3bet, cbet 2/3 and pot-call turn SPR 2. Did think for moment of half potting turn but I think on double fd board we just want to pot or check.

This opponent seemed kinda reggy from small sample. Its pretty weird flop lead imo as this is sort of flop 3bettor should pot cbet a lot. So why to lead if he has goods. So I call with some support for my overpair and hit the gin card on turn. Kinda surprised he still bet-folded but with only 45bb behind I really dont mind that much if he folds some equity like gs. Also he might not try to bluff river anyway if I just called.

Some sort of 9877 type perhaps make sense.

Hey dude. been lurking alot in your blog and also some of the videos you make. i liked the one where you did preflop opening training! i play on unibet aswell, but much lower stakes. dont have to much time for poker anymore but i try to build som cash on the side for fun.

About the last hand you posted. how come 3bettor is supposed to pot cbet this board alot? 583 rainbow, is it not pretty hard for us to smash this? or is it because he's range shouldnt really smash it either?

Keep grinding bro, and keep posting!

Thanks for feedback. Always nice when someone else comments here as well.

Yeah that 853r flop is rarely hitting super strong to either player. Caller has bit more single suit combos that hit good like some A876ss or 9876. Ds combos are in both player range fairly similar amount. Probably even more in reality as lot of people wont 4bet ds combos even closely as often as they should in theory. But overall those are fairly rare combos in overall ranges. Main advantage for 3bettor comes from AA advantage which is massive. 3bettor will have 90%+ of AA combos in 3bet range where as caller should 4bet them always. At least in high rake game.

Now the issue for caller comes from this AA disadvantage because huge portion of his range just cant continue. E.g. lot of overpairs without support or at least A blocker just cant continue. Same for some of A8xx type top pairs though in reality people tend to overplay these. Because of how often overpairs has to fold 3bettor can also just pot good amount of AJJxds type combos or some JT98ds or AT98ds or 7766ds or even some AJT9ds with two bdfd.

So yeah huge advantage on AA and most AA are strong enough to pot-call for low SPR spot in board that rarely hits opponent. Now we are not necessarily happy to see shove but we also have fairly good pot odds to go for it. This situation does change dramatically though if we make stacks 200bb deep. Then 3bettor should cbet way more selectively and use smaller than pot sizing.

Well I am happy to report of having good poker day today. Result was 650€ up. Some hot run for sure but I guess its allowed occasionally!

Biggest pot of the day (at least € wise):

Spoiler

So this was obviously 4bet pot. SPR was around 2.6 so I think its best to pot having some blocker and bdfd. Not happy to see shove but this was around 50/50.

Massive hit on flop:

Spoiler

So this one I open, BU call, SB squeeze and we both call. Hand is triple suited but cant fold with such connectivity. Or so I thought but gto wise this seems to be clear fold with -0.64 worse as fold. In reality BU was calling way too much and SB was aggro 3bettor. But yeah I did think this would still be call gto wise. Good that I checked this. It would be call without ts though.

On the flop SB checked, I bet half pot, BU folded and SB called. Then on turn SB lead pot which I really like as line here. He takes blank turn to shift equity to his advantage versus draws and does block some better stuff with Q. Now I obviously wont fold my combo draw. Still had 45% on turn.

Really weird one in this. So player on my right limping was maniac type. I iso and get bit more action than I wanted. Not great but I thought call is probably mandatory as this limp-3bet can potentially still be kinda random stuff. Flop I dont have much for 4way pot with weak fd but it goes checked. Turn I pick up more equity so I decided to go with it and...

Interesting one kinda. So preflop and flop mandatory calls. Turn I dont like that much but felt like I have bit too much to fold versus half pot. Now the plan I had was to fold flush to third barrel. Stack off on 8 and 7. But also to bluff 6 and maybe non club 3 versus check. But all worries disappeared with this river :f_drink:

I think villain river value is fine theory wise with nut flush and boat blockers. Though it might be that solver would prefer some sort of block bet-call line. But without decent reads I dont see myself calling enough weaker to be honest in reality. Most people wont show up with enough bluffs in spot like this and anything weaker than nut flush is just pure bluff catcher.

Sometimes we ran into opponents who are 3betting very aggressively and facing 3bets is not that great situation for most hands. We invest a lot to see flop and wont get to realize our equity fully postflop. Compared to single raised pots where we will often have more control and options postflop. So how to battle versus these players? Few things I like to do:

- First of all tighten from your default open range! This is most important part as then we have less hands that need to fold to 3bets and also less borderline call stuff. Imo its fine to open fold some of those borderline call to 3bet hands. Now gto borderline can be totally fine versus maniacs though. So its bit of relative term always.
- Alter default 4bet range
- Consider strentghtening your cold call range versus open raise when aggro is behind left to act. There is more incentive to just call normal "no brainer" 3bet hands but also cut away more borderline calls with that squeeze danger. Sometimes with really maniac type behind I prefer to not have any 3bet range.

Second point related to 4bet range I didnt say widen but alter. Reasoning being we often want to 4bet more stuff like AKK or AQQ or KKQJ because danger of AA decreases and we just push more preflop equity advantage versus wider 3bet range. But some of gto 4bets could be perhaps better to just call if opponent is unwilling to fold to 4bet. E.g. I had this hand yesterday where I went for gto 4bet:

In gto my hand EVs would look like this:

So there somewhat prefering 4bet. Now BB is supposed to fold around 43% of his range and I heavily doubt that ever happens. His hand should be clear call versus my open but aggros often overplay ds hands and also bunch of ss rundowns and potentially some bigger pockets etc. In reality it might be better to just call my hand to 3bet but there is again two sides to the coin.

Had I called this hand I would be forced to fold flop to big bet. Even versus half pot it would be fold imo. Just too few good turns we can take heat on. Now in 4bet pot with SPR 1 we just need to go with it. On other hand we have positional advantage that we can use if just calling which versus not so good players is perhaps amplified somewhat. On other hand it is low SPR situation so I think this can be easy to overvalue.

What I meant bit above with two sided coin is that when we 4bet we get certain benefits:

- Some preflop fold equity (probably)
- We realize our hand equity more as we can stack off SPR 1 very often or create fe on some dry flops potentially, e.g. flop comes 33Tr and we cbet small. Now hand like A986ds is not pushing equity advantage preflop which is bit of issue.
- Potential indirect value for future game. So when opponent see we are willing to 4bet this kind of hand it might slow their 3bet approach. Which ultimately for our overall EV is likely good.

PS: I mentioned 4betting more big pockets. So in this COvsBB spot gto wise AKK does this:

So we are not supposed to 4bet AKK here. But BB is supposed to 3bet only 6.6%. But if we say his 3bet range is 12% and he folds way less than 40% to 4bet.. Well now situation change dramatically and we are making massive profit with 4bet I would say.

Classical defencive win session today. Bit losing one but close to breakeven. This was quite a facepalm moment:

MP open, I 3bet, BB cold call, MP min4bet, I 5bet, BB call and MP call. BB shove flop and we get it in 3way. I were very happy to see that flop but then MP shows up with that... Quite a button clicking master piece.

Biggest pot I won today. Was versus recreational meaning I will never ever try to bluff river. I would say versus solid player you can consider bluffing with nut blocker as this would be very under bluffed spot. But yeah versus recreational it would be very very optimistic move.

Flop I would lean toward checking if I had top pair but with bottom pair I have very little showdown value. Turn give me more equity and I also block 76 so kinda mantatory barrel. Though if getting raised big it would be annoying to fold but that is rare. When river came I obviously hoped for lead and badam there it came! Took my time to "think" and shoved. Villain did take few seconds to call. But yeah even bottom of his value range doesnt fold and this is very common scenario. For this reason I dont mind value shoving Q high flush either.

I don't understand this PLO
you raise to me what looks like garbage from CO
you check/call on the flop with a gutshot, not to the nuts
you pick up a FD and push it...
why all these things? When I do it, I feel like a fish...

This hand has close to +0.3bb EV as open in gto and it has reasonable playability. Not opening would be big mistake. If thinking of it as BB/100 we would miss on 30bb of value by not opening ever (over 100 hands). Plus in reality versus pool we can make more value than gto assume. If suit was not A high open folding would be fine. We don't love to face 3bet with it but folding would cost 3.5bb where as call EV is around -3bb.

Flop is marginal for sure. If it was any weaker or if villain potted I would fold. We do have gs, one pair, bdfd and one high heart. GS not being to nuts is not very important overall as 63 is very rare on 3bet ranges. Pair is relevant as hitting trips or two pair is good fair amount of time. This is low flop where neither player tend to hit two pair+ or combo draws that often. That is actually sort of strength of this A54 connectivity when combined into nut suit. Finally Q♥: has some relevance mainly as creating more profitable bluff spot in case flush completes and opponent slows down. But also block opponent outs if he has draw and so on.

On turn I have very often over 30% equity. So if I check and villain pot I will be roughly on breakeven spot. But by pot leading I try to create some fold equity. K is card we are sometimes hitting. Now I don't think I will get that much folds but even if he always shoves I only need 36-37% equity to stack off.
