I've been waiting for a sign or whatever to help me decide Stars or no Stars and today I finally got it. I was playing a session, standart stuff, 24 FR tables, couple of BIs down, just the way I like it and then got few beats in a row so decided to pause for a 20 minutes. Right after I continued one of my tables started flashing and congratulatory message appeared. I was dealt in a milestone hand. BOOYAAH Nice ♠_cool: Never happened before even though I play a lot during these promotions. So I started pausing the rest of my tables, got some good hands, won 2,3 pots before going to the milestone hand so everithing is cool, right! Well, not really... The mods explained what is going to happen now, I prepered to shove any two, the hand started and I realised that... I have no cards... I was still waiting for the blinds and was 2 spots away from it Therefore me and the other unfortunate soul just watched how one very fishy looking guy made his flush on the turn with 95s to take down 85$ pot + 1000$ and all the rest of the dealt players got a 100 bucks. And I left with nothing but a story and pocket aces when the blind got to me ♠_confused: At least my mind was made up. So now I only have 4 000 FPPs left to clear my bonus. In 2-3 days that will be done and I will leave Stars for a first time in 1.5 years. I hope one day when I look back it would've been proven to be a good choice.

No sleep tonight at all. Gotta do a favour to a friend so in an hour I'm going to the train station. It's past 4 AM and the temperature outside is freaking -20 degrees. WTF it's Sofia, not the North Pole. Just felt like sharing and whining about it a litle bit.

Sick beat! If that happened to me, I would so throw my laptop across the room.. Oh well, when u get such a close shave, u usually get something better in return. Maybe u will bunk an mtt or something.. Hahaha..

Just read one of the gold psychological articles that I missed before. Very smart stuff and exactly the type of read I needed now. It's about the evolution of the profitable poker styles and the moral is that if you want to be ahead today you should mix in everything in your play (TAG/LAG) and just adapt over and over and over - for those who missed the article I definitely recommend it ♠_thumbsup:

Time for my first montly update:

January was lame start of the year - 6 BIs down (8 in EV) with the solid recovery in the last 3 days. Overall volume sucked a big time - didn't even managed 100k hands. My goals was:

Joining the mass sitouts at Pokerstars in early January - (FAIL) I didn't but I'm glad
Keep playing average of 4 hours/day 24 tables NL25FR until I clear 1500$ bonus on Pokerstars (should’ve happened before mid-January with the old system, will see how it goes with the new one) and after that reevaluate if it is still worthed to grind bonuses there - (FAIL) and not even close - about 80 hours total
Discuss my future thesis with my mentor before 9 of January (DONE)
Read the articles and watch all the Neuropsychology of Poker by Somnius 2011 videos until the end of the month (DONE)
Finish with Dusty’s Threat Your Poker as Business book (FAIL) I read most of it but got stuck in the strategy part that I didn't liked all that much. Most of it looked like: if you have this type of hand do this or that with it. He advocates automatized style and plays which is probably fine for multitabling but not so interesting to read. Maybe I'll finish it later.

Hahahaha... not that impresive, right. 2 out of 5. The goal setting is new to me, I should at least check them next month

I laughed at this a lot, went on happy tilt and won another stack by shipping QQ on an unknown villain The only downside was that since I just entered the table I haven't raked anything so my prize were some modest 287$+ 69$ from the pot while one of the guys that lost got the lion share of 1k+ but who cares I won milestone hand in one of my last days at Stars ♠_love: This might just buy my way into the diamond party in Budapest (I think I'm still eligable). Anyway, what happened in the last few days was that I cleared my bonus at Pokerstars and I'm ready to go to another platform. Before that I'll have to clear some Moneybookers/bank issues that promise to be very annoying and would probably take at least 3-4 days. So during that time I will be playing some at PS and study a lot to get myself ready for my new challange.

Another cool news is that I will probably join the Budapest even to get some additional motivation while partying with the true ballers there. Also a football match is included in the program so that should be fun. I play quite a lot actually so I feel I can contribute to the english community's team I'll be in Budapest for 3 nights in total so really looking forward to visit the city. It would also be my first poker related travel, so let this be the first of many ♠_cool: I feel very excited about it but now I'm off to bed - a lot of stuff to do tomorrow.

So what I've been up to last 2 days. I started my transition, I play 4-6 tables NL25 SH (at Pokerstars still) and managed to drop few BIs already I'm not overly happy with my game so far, especially my tight/spewy plays. When I play I constantly feel this urge to 3bet my buttons, to squeeze ATo from the blinds and C-bet and so far the results are far from impresive. What I see as a big difference between SH and FR is that my C-bet are working much less (38% over small SH sample vs 50% in FR). Also I can now see how my good old 24 tabling days have given me plenty of terrible habits I need to get rid of. Here are some of them:

1. Not thinking correctly about ranges - meaning not doing it on all streets and not reducing my opponent's range from street to street according his actions but using some really lame made up templets like:

- TPTK/Overpair is strong, it makes money, I like money = bet flop. Bet/f turn, bet/fold river if I see 1,2 possible weaker hands in villains range calling. If I face flop raise it might be bluff = call. If they continue betting on turn they are not bluffing = fold. I'm pretty sure that I burned ton of money with my river bet/fold with TPTK/Overpairs line by folding out busted draws and marginal holdings and isolation myself against top of villain's range. So basicly I start thinking about my opponets range only when I face big raise on turn/river

Another fishy line is when I open from middle possition, get called by CO/BU and flop air or 3d pair. In that spot I always feel most comfortable to c/fold flop but somethimes the board looks too good to me for C-bet and I do it anyway knowing that I will not fire seccond barrel if called. If I play against me I will float me with any two
On the other hand if I flop 2d pair I often bet flop and turn OOP and c/fold river. Both of those are very week and exploitable lines and even though on my limits players don't think about this things it is natural reflex to call flop in position with something and bet turn when checked to so I'm loosing money here anyway.

Punishing limpers, raisers, 3bettors preflop, floating 3 streets with river push raise at the end, going broke with A high And I hate gambling Good thing is I still consider myself a reasonable person so this shit have to stop. I'm thinking of a challange to do - a session with no bluffing. Like following the Starting Hands Chart with no exception or something. Just so I know I'm able to switch gears and don't play the same everythime.

Now I'm going to my bank to try and sort out my Moneybookers account and finally move to my next platform. And from what I hear no bluffing should be valuable skill over there

I'm kind of happy with my river play but I still don't understand what hand he plays like that. AA, KQ (wtf c/calling flop), Axd

Last 2 days I decided to take full benefit of table selecting and it did wonders for my winrate I realised that I've been playing unprofitable tables all the time and donking off money entering 3 and 4-beting wars with laggy regs and using completely incorect pushing ranges preflop for my limits. The paranoia of being exploited is one of the biggest poker sins it looks like. I think I made some progress with that.

A problem that I constantly face lately is my unwillingness to play long sessions while 4-6 tabling. I don't really like to take regular breaks every hour or so and I stop if I start playing bad or take consecutive beats. Today I had perfect conditions for a long grind - I've been playing well, most of the stuff worker out, table selecting like a pro, won many stacks. But the moment I got close to the 4th hour just felt like stopping. And not because I'm sleapy but I just didn't want to play anymore. I will definitely have to focus on this and develop my grinding skills.

Played a hand that really annoyed me. Actually I don't remember another time when I was that annoyed over 6BB pot I opened A :heart:5 and got a call from a station on the SB.

Flop comes something like A :diamond:5 :spade:2

I decided to overbet flop to 10BB to play for stacks against his Ax or whatever else he decide not to believe me with. He snapfolded and showed me A What is wrong with you!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Where is this world going to if stations start folding TP on the flop He should probably be evicted from their club (if they have one) for not following the way of the Station...

Anyway I finally managed to sort out my moneybookers account so money are on the way to somewhere else. So far I'm thinking 888, at least until clearing FDB there. Since I'm heavilly overrolled for NL25 I will probably give shot to NL50 very soon. Have big roll, and little skill so regs over there should appreciate that

Beside that Budapest event is comming next weekend so can't wait for it... should be great to finally meet more PS grinders.

First report after moving to 888 and impressions on the new platform. Started at NL30, a bit higher than my usual game but I like it as an introduction before shooting NL50.

I seriously suspect that I managed to screw up my registration and my account might not be tracked to PS.com That will get clear tomorrow after the update and there is good chance I will be whinning about it to the support in the next few days... I'm clearing some bonus ATM but it could be 888's welcome 400$ bonus instead of PS 888% and that would be just

2. Software - definitely worse than Stars - I was very hard at the beggining, especially the lack of auto posting Big blind when your turn. Obviously designed for impatiant gamblers So far I only play 4 tables but find it a bit hard to concentrate on the action because the game itself moves much faster here.

3. Player pool - somehow worse players than on Stars but still plenty of regs with decent looking stats. However I will be suprised if I have problems beating NL30. So far it looks like decent ABC poker wins and once you identify the randomly aggresive casino gamblers you can easily avoid the leveling shit with the regs and just valuebet/semibluff the fishes. I made some very stupid moves that costed me $ - A high allin calls, too thin value pushes and of course my favorite bet/call overpair on the river

Wow I've been playing baaaaad last 2 days. Back in my Stars days I'd be punished really hard for all the stupid and unnecessary thing I'm trying to pull off. My adjustments seems to be way off and I spew as I've never spewed before

I had small sample on the villain, the basic stats look solid but he opens SB 67% . He also 4betted 2 times in short period of time before this hand from CO vs BU and SB vs BB so I just decided to show him who the boss is... OWNED. Villain is a 19/15 reg with 20% 3bet from BB and he pushed over all 3 4bets he faced that I saw. Pairs should be very strong against this type of opponent in SB vs BB and late position vs blind spots. However my true reasoning here was that going allin with small pairs pre is cool move that I like to try from time to time.

Funny thing is that so far spew + stationing = profit My stupid plays are compensated by the overall level of the competition and the running bonus + I'm over EV like a boss. However I need to improve my thought process a lot before shooting higher.

Going out now to do some last minute things before going to Budapest tomorrow.

My impressions on the city and the diamond event - WOW and WOW. Really loved Budapest, very beautifull place, could roam its streets and stare at its buildings for ages and I pretty much did after the event was over.

The diamond even was also great. Got a chance to meet some of the PS stuff and players and it was definitely valuable expirience for me. Gave me a lot of motivation to improve my poker game.

Since I got back I managed to put in 2 short sessions. Won some, running well above EV like a bos ♠_cool: Some really bad decisions though and some hands that confused me a lot:

First one is versus really bad 63/5 fish that seems to get agro postflop. I made frustrated snap call on the flop without thinking.

I'm really lost in that hand for every single decision. Both opponents are fish. Don't know if I call or raise the midstack fish, don't know if I can ever fold to the second push for over 100 BB with so much invested already. In that case I turned out to have the highest equity 3 handed - 40% so I'm risking 26 to win 85 and my share of the pot is 34$ so it's +EV. On the other hand their actuall hands are under the bottom of both their ranges so in the long run this should be really bad call against something reasonable like:

UTG+1: 66+, AJs+, AQo+

SB: QQ+, AK

Here I would have 23% equity and should fold.

Last few days I started mixing in some NL50 tables to my NL30s. It feels very similar and soon I might transfer to it permanently. Managed to win my biggest pot so far - 400 BB in NL50 ♠_cool: Also had some very interesting clashes with rungood fishes - they were hitting hands on me like crazy, taking me for few stacks but still managed to go busto in the end. In one particular case I did the finishing move to a terrible 75/5 fish that ran like 3-4 stacks up, most of which came from me He was hitting every time, making A high calldowns and so on for around 2 hours. Than he started losing and in the final hand I isoraised him, hit set on the flop, potted 3 streets and he called again with A high

Last night I was invited by a friend of mine and her roomate to a homegame with simbolic buy-in. It was my 4th live game or something. It was supposed to be a cash game, but in fact it turned into mini tourney when the hosts announced there will be no rebuys and they started raising the blinds. Also only the winner would take the money. The 8 players field was pretty fishy, with 2-3 loose aggresive players (they presented themselves as pros) and the rest had no clue. I was card dead at the beginning and played only 2 significant pots for the first 2.5 hours so the pros accused me of being a nit that wait for the aces only Somehow everyone managed to stick around for really long time before they got tired and started spewing chips and calling allins with K high, no draw. At some point we were 4 handed and I got free play from the big bling with 2 3 Flop was Q 4 7 The most agresive pro was on my left and he bets 1/2 pot, I call. Turn came 6 giving me straight draw aswell. Villain c-bet turn and I shoved. He called with TP and I hit the flush on the river. It was not the best play from me but I got away with it. Then the other pro busted the 4th guy and we got to a heads up game.
It was pretty funny. I felt I have biig edge over him, pushing him arround with agro play and taking pots down with no showdown. I sensed he was very uncomfortable in this situation and I felt in control. At some point he tried to adapt by randomly 3beting preflop. So we got into a key hand when he 3 bet my T 5 and I called. I paired my T on a drawy A high board. I check/called big bets twice and we checked down river for me to win. At that point he had no more than 7-8 BB left. Few hands later I completed QQ, he pushed with A7o and that was it. I won and it felt good even though my price just covered my taxy

The point of all this is that I really enjoyed heads up and I got into few spots online where it was only me and a fish on the 6 max table. That so far proves to be very +EV spot + it's really funny especially when they lose and start trashing you in the chat I might consider hitting the heads up tables sooner than I thought.

It is also time for me to start reading some new book so hopefully that will happen in the next few days. I'm really having troubles with my schedule right now because I feel I'm not using my time optimally. However there is definitely improvement in terms of increasing my hours - my March average so far is 6.5h/day which is much better than last two months. And the best part is I really enjoy the game right now and feel I'm making some progress since my FR days.

Damn, that got to be a long post. Off to bed now.

If you want to play fish heads-up, great way is to just start a new table. Great way to get a fishy table going as well!

Yeah, I've been trying that lately... created me some decent tables

Despite non updating for a long time everithing is going great. I'm running so hot in NL30 it's unreal. 9 BI above so far. As for NL50 I'm soon to break even I think. Currently 1 BI down in 10k hands but I'm starting to feel pretty confident there. Some craaazy gamblers on the tables, had really entertaining sessions with them... rollercoaster all the way but at the end the fish is losing as expected. Yesterday I ran into really mad degen on NL50. He managed to lose 7-8 BIs in less than 200 hands. At some point he started to barrel every hand allin. It was like checking to him just released the monster. In one hand I floped a set OOP and c/c flop and turn. On the river I checked again and he bet the pot with 20BB behind. I shoved and he snapcalled with T high! I played untill 4 AM that night because of him.

With all the craziness going on I'm starting to develop some calling station reflexes and sometimes I call down wrong players in bad spots. When villain overbet shove and I have TPTK, Overpair or 2 pair I often make quick calls that are probably not very profitable long term. And since they are actually bluffing a lot so far the results are possitive even though they stats tell different story. I'm also falling back with studying and reviewing which is probably because of my rungood but it is also a sign of some mindset issues.

Tomorrow I'm going skiing for a first time in 10 years so not sure how much grinding I'll doin the next few days. So far I'm at 70 hours for March so I'm sort of happy with volume. Got my eyes on Easy Game and will probably start that book while there.
