Gee that last psot makes me look like a right tool

Anyway, I decided to take a 5 BI shot at NL5. I figure if I have to drop down then $75 BR should be plenty at NL2. If I can manage to lose that at NL2 I may as well give up right!!!

I've only played 2K hands so far at NL5 and I'm well on my way! On my way back to NL2 as I've lost 3BI's already :rage:

Mostly down to bad play but have had a few bad beats and ran into the tops of ranges far too much too. So still confident I can turn it around I think ?(

I'm sure you can. 5 Buy-ins really isn't that much... When I moved to the $3.50's and the $7.00's I had a downswing of about 20-buy-ins at the new level each time. It takes time to figure out what the small adjustments are at each level. It also took me a couple of attempts at the $3.50's before it stuck... if you need to drop back to NL2 and build up a bit who cares - have fun!

Good luck buddy!

I've been doing some of that database analysis stuff that all you kids are doing these days!

Amazingly I've managed to spot quite a few stats that I need to work on after finding a great thread on 2+2 about positional stats.

  • 1 VPIP too high for FR
  • 2 Gap too large between VPIP/PFR (still)
  • 3 AGG% way too low (using a tighter opening range should improve this)
  • 4 started to piece together which lines have been most/least profitable (although 30k sample still small)

It seems my TAG style has been erring on the side of loose passive fish :f_cool: which has earned me a profit at NL2. That and probably running pretty well! Adjustments need to be made to tackle the beasts at NL5 though!

I have hit a bit of a downswing which has highlighted the weaknesses in my game. In the long term it will be really beneficial as I now know how to analyse stuff in HM2 much better.

Just played a session and was really happy with my play although sitting out with aces whilst getting my kings cracked just after losing another big one with set over set was pretty tilting!

Onwards and upwards: playing mainly NL2 with a couple of NL5's mixed in!

Great stuff in post above!

Nothing like a downswing to focus your attention where it should have been all along eh? =)

That is correct Jim

I've always been a bit clueless where to start and just wanted to play. I have enjoyed matching my stats against winning players.

Next I'll be identifying spots a bit more in depth where I am:

a, Not maximising value on river (WTSD too high)
b, Making fishy calls on the flop

Having a large gap between VPIP/PFR is unforgivable. It's not too bad but I think starting with tightening this up will help to improve my other leaks!

I'm curious if the gap is because you were limp/calling too wide, limp/calling some hands you should have been raising, or both? In other words, do you need to adjust VPIP down, PFR up, or both?

If you'd rather not answer those questions yet, no worries.

Hi, zachrina,
Just how high is too high for VPIP in FR?
How big is the gap? This may or may not be a problem over small sample sizes.
Do you have a reference showing what these numbers should be?
I've been running with an Agg Factor of less than 2 for a long time, but it seems to me that it is because on the room I play on, there are aggro types who will keep betting until I show aggression myself, so if I do have the best hand, passive is the way to get more money.

Cheers,
VS

It's fine.

Some may disagree but my VPIP/PRF is 21/14. At NL2 I could get away with limping, although still only 30k sample. I should be aiming for around 17 to 18/14 so it's defo VPIP to come down, AKA, limp less or make less fishy calls of raises!

Hi Vorpal

I do agree that we must adjust accordingly but certain stats win more consistently over large samples.
I can't post the thread as it's on 2p2 but it's in the NLholdem-MicroFR-official stats and graphs analysis thread. Just basically info of how to analyse your stats. The kind of stuff I should know and should have sorted time ago! Although FR cash is a totally different beast to SNGs!

Let me know if you find it useful!

I'd love to see the equivalent numbers for 6-max somewhere.

From what I've seen though, I do the following:
:diamond:  flat too much -- probably from the blinds. I call a lot of min-raises and (try to) take the pot away post flop. The result is a gap between vpip & pfr Solution: I think I'll turn some flats into 3Bets and discard some flats entirely. My ranges vs 3x raises is quite a bit tighter than vs minraises, so I'm not sure where this will lead. I don't know how much room I have to add more 3Bets, though, as I'm already over 5% -- but just over.
:diamond:  Go to showdown too much (33% overall). This seems weird, since I have been having trouble with pot-control type hands eg AK on 9 4 2 type flops where I don't know when to take a stab. I end up a showdown w/ Ace-high and lose to idiotic crap like 33. A bet would win the pot, but it should be bet/fold I think.
:diamond:  My w$sd is over 50% for the year, so at least I'm not taking shit to showdown as much as I used to, but

Peace,
VS

Again, not sure I should say this but there are some great articles and free vids on ThePokerbank.com. The also post short vids on Twitter and probably Facebook too (if that's your thing!)

Check it out!

Played about 10K hands only this month.

I am continuing to play NL5 as I feel comfortable enough, although it does hurt to drop a few buy ins in a session! I'm working on ironing out my leaks which I feel is going okay but continuing to run pretty bad! I'm trying to outplay fish far too often and even hanging around on SH tables to fleece them which never turns out well as it effects my play elsewhere far too much.

I may post a graph later if I have time but basically down $38 at NL5 (BB-17/100) and up $10 at NL2 (BB9/100). Still got 16.5/100 at NL2 which is good for 32K hands.

I have a couple of gripes!

I find this new website too new and can't make images (graphs) larger on my tablet!

Why can I not see where opponents are from on Stars when I hover over them anymore? It seems to work occasionally and is really pissing me off! Mainly because this is how I read my notes too.

You really like the whipping don't you?:deadhappy:

Are you multi-tabling and perhaps forgetting to click on the table before hovering? I think it only shows that info on the selected table.

It tickles me for some reason :fouet: reminds me of the daily grind!

I'm pretty sure I do click on the table when multi tabling :wtf:

I think I'm slowly crawling out of the hole!

Stats so far this month say VPIP17.1/PFR12.1 which is fine but need to get the PFR up a bit I think. Still not being aggro enough in certain spots.

I am losing too much from the blinds and have been stacked twice in two days KK v AA when I know I should fold to his 4bet (Mr 13/8 with 0 3bet stat) . At least two more things to work on. Folding KK pre for an ex tourney player is tough!!!

I have to admit as I was reading that I was shaking my head... lol
That would be a very tough adjustment indeed.

Last night I played about 1K hands at NL5. During this session I encountered the biggest whale of all time so searched him. He was on an NL10 table, just one and had a vpip of 100 and PFR of 74 over a 50 hand sample! :profit: Most of which were open shoves :appl:

I got myself on the waiting list (1st) and planned my strategy! Call with a super wide range and hold on tight

I'm not sure how others fair in this type of situation??? but it normally costs me money 80% of the time (80% is a total random guess) :spit:

Fortune favours the brave and a huge boost to my BR. As you can see my calls and shoves proved correct from a cards and profit perspective but were they correct? I doubt it but I will invest my new found wealth in a DB analysis form Mr. W34z3l. My first question to him will be

"Is 900bb/100 sustainable at NL10" :mdr:
