:spade: Stackoffski vs Stackoffski :spade:

It's time I start a new challenge for myself because I find myself slacking off a bit when it comes to expectations for the future. I need to have a new goal in poker, which hopefully is just an in-between goal, but for now the only one.

I am starting a new bankroll challenge and a this new blog with it. The time for the old Stackoffski is over. The end-result of my previous blog was that I am a recovering big calling station without realizing it. And it turns out my name suits me well! I am stacking off all those stacks to y'all ... be blessed with them!

I come to realize my biggest contestant is myself really. The flaws in my game are what I can change. I can't change what my opponents do, but if I can change flaws in my game, I can become a winning player. But I do need to change.

So hereby I challenge myself to change my own cashgame-game and make $2000 out of $400 with mainly cashgames.
At first I wanted to only let in-game earnings count, but that would be counter-productive when some side-money can make me jump in stakes sooner. There are more goals to set hereafter. Maybe I bank an mtt, which I do play on the side sometimes with that side-money ... if that money can make me jump in stakes it would be stupid not to take it if I think I am ready ...

Bankroll-rules are:
Play a stake until bankroll is 40 buyins + 5 buyins for the next stake. Then take a 5 buyin shot at the next stake. Step back again when 40 buyins for the previous stake.

Today I start this challenge with $400!

Hope this time you don't stack off! Improve your pot constructing abilities so you don't get too committed. I think folding more is +EV at the micros.

Wish you luck

Thanks man! I did no think it was about commitment because I like to think there is no such thing as pot-commitment, but I think you might be right!

I am not your typical calling station I forgot to mention ... I am also a raising and betting station. Probably other players think I never fold postflop, I did not look at myself like that.

Just one note from the end of the last blog: I don't think you can draw conclusions from the graph after filtering post flop calls only. You're basically just looking at medium strength hands there, so of course you can't be winning a lot when all you have is bluffcatchers.

Also the graph won't take into account pot odds. If you're facing a small river bet and have the odds to call and win often enough to make it profitable (but nowhere near 50% of the time), the graph will still go down despite the +ev call because you're usually losing the pot.

So I wouldn't feel bad about that graph, I'd assume with that filter it's losing for everyone. Probably best to just focus on the unfiltered graph so you don't end up fixing things that aren't necessarily broken. Or hit YouTube for database analysis videos that help you spot and fix some leaks.

Good luck with the new challenge!

Thanks a lot for focused reading!

I think I have to contradict with my own thinking (which is all I have) though, which goes like this:

My bluffcatchers should be at least breaking-even, no? If not, I bluff-catch too often because too often I am up against a better hand.

About the pot odds-issue: The way I see it :they might look right, but if I am losing by calling apparently they where not and I should have folded (but I understand, how can you still fold because the pot odds look right)

So that leads me to still give meaning to the graph. I call too often. But of course I have to call sometimes, now I have to find out when to fold and when not, which might be more difficult in practice then it looks now.

Maybe I am being a dumbass, that could very well be, sometimes it's the case :f_tongue:

Thanks for support and the best of luck to you too!

Ah yes, I am not isolating the calls, so the graph is really not representing true losses from calls. I did not think that, but I did think it went down very rapidly, and since I am winning with bets and raises, I thought it must be the calls. Otherwise I am still not winning enough with bets and raises to make up for the blinds. But I can't take a look at it in detail because indeed the actions and their immediate results are not isolated.

Also I just think I am not ahead often enough with some of my rivercalls. I should fold more often when in doubt with a bluffcatcher (hands that turned into bluffcatchers because of the board for example).

Now you have to take SPR (stack-to-pot-ratio) in mind when playing, so yes pot commitment is a thing. I know you are not the typical cs because I used to be the same as you having the same problems, playing really good pre flop and flop, the trouble started at turn/river when facing action from people. Took me many loses and time to learn how to fold top hands like doubles and sets, nowadays is easy to fold that kind of hands at given board textures with good player reads.

I guess that fixing your later streets game will make you rich, you have everything to succeed!

Hi, Stackoffski :f_thumbsup:

I'm not at playing-level that I could discuss but I want to say just one thing....

Good luck on your new journey! :f_cool:

Yes those hands are big pots, and they always seem to have it. I think even more so at rush poker. Yet I make the call.

Today again I stacked off with a set of 6's when I was pretty sure he had a set of aces because he checked the flop as preflop raiser but reraised me on the turn. Flop was A93 or something, and I turn a 6. He was really letting me know I have the nuts here and not afraid of any hand. Now that might be an extreme example, there are easier folds to find and I did good today for the most part. Only played 1K hands so far, but I'm taking it easy.

Also, if I lose 10 buyins or sooner I will play nl$5 although I still have $300.

First hands

Played 2K hands yesterday. Broke even EV, but with so many coolers where I was behind, it's a wonder I still broke even. A lot of big hands vs big hands. I got 3 stacks for the ThanksGG daily flipout because of the bad beats and won $18.85. so I'm up even though:

I am very happy with my play. Starting to make those tough folds and some lesser tough folds!! Well done!

Started a new database as well (I can combine later on). Here's the graph for now:

Spoiler

I'll keep including the blue and red lines to see where they go!

Still very happy with my play! I made 1 big mistake for as far as I can remember, and making some tough folds with strong hands where I think they got the goods. And also some weaker hand-folds in smaller pots. Although volume-wise, I am not playing nearly as much as before. Hopefully from next week I will be able to pick that up again...

I hope this is the reason that the blue line is rising now, but we have to wait for more hands and see! I hope the red line will stay around break-even point, but I'm not doing anything to influence the red line, only the blue one. So I am folding and checking more often. Not making as thin valuebets. Making it to the showdown more often. :f_tongue:

I appear to be playing these average stats:

10K Hands

... some more hands ...

Spoiler

I took a look at rush nl$25, just to see what that is like, bet amounts, etc, and because I had the shot-taking amount of $525+. I played 200 hands and lost $20. Not taking a real shot until I feel comfortable with that or get lucky during one of my peeks if there will be more. But for now back at nl$10 for a while. Start to feel good there, but I am in an upswing. Hopefully lifetime-upswing!

BR = $517

Good luck, man. Your graph looks solid, as well as your redline, I'll definitely be following. :f_thumbsup:

Played 41K hands total now at nl$10 (also from before the bankroll challenge), and still breaking even EV:

Spoiler

But still with some bad luck postflop (thankfully, this gives me hope):

Spoiler

(the flushes and sets overlap).

Also played about 1K hands at nl$25:

Spoiler

Not going to do that again for a little while ... I might even step back to nl$5 because I want to try some things out (basically be more aggressive preflop), based on these numbers from the 41K sample:

-

Bankroll = $493
