Ok don't give up man we gotta go up the limits together,

I had a bad session again today...

Look at my graph the EV line is just running away....I hope I will catch it one day!

Just doing a quick update I am very tired after partying last night and also wanted to say that I won't be able to play for 2 days :(. No articles, nothing poker related since I have to do a presentation on tuesday.

Also
Starcraft 2 is coming on this tuesday :D :D I will go buy it Tuesday at 12:00 AM

Anyways, if people want to add me on msn to talk about poker I will speak with anyone and discuss strategy : stevegold87@hotmail.com, I am really serious in becoming better since this is a dream for me.

BR is at 67 again .
1850 ftpoints, still thinking about switching site.

I also bought a nice whiteboard to keep track of how many hours and profits per day that I play, motivates me :)

Take care everyone and good luck on the tables,
Might update on wednesday

Should be silver this week too ^^

Hi Steve,

Just had a quick scan through your blog and so far it seems you are making progress, try not to let the losing sessions affect you to much as they can and will happen. Even when playing your A-game you can still come out of a session down in $'s.

If you really think you tilted some of your bankroll away then I would suggest that you start trying to identify where it starts and leave the tables immediately or find a way to prevent all together as once you move up the limits the opponents you face will be better and better and be easily able to spot this. I've just left the NL5 tables, and I'm not doing great at NL10 I'm usually 2 buyins either way (up or down) and can't seem to break the cycle right now so I know how it feels to be thinking your bankroll isn't getting anywhere. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll be at the next limit very shortly.

I'll try and keep up with your blog now I've read it. If you ever want a sweat session all my ID's are in my signiture and I'd be happy to give you an hour or two of time. I know I am at the micros just now, but like you I've also played a lot further up the chain with a much larger bankroll.

Good luck catching those fishy's :)

Hehehe, sadly there's no NL4 on FTP, so I have to wait around 125$ to be able to switch limits, still a long way to go.

I am thinking of buying "The poker mindset" or something like that I heard it is a very good books for people who get annoyed at bad beats or get tilted sometimes.

And I still did not get your add on msn for some reason :(....

Hi MrMardyBum,

Thanks you for reading my blog :). It is possible that I lost 1 BI due to tilt of the end first losing session I had and you are right I should correct that asap

I am looking forward to have a sweat session with you on MSN. I love to discuss poker with anyone not matter where they are at.

Even this week I have been considering buying few hours of a coach but it is wayyyy to expensive lol, so I will just learn by myself and people that want to study as a group :).

As I said this week I am busy until wednesday but starting then I will be available on msn often, I will try adding you now.

To everyone :

I hope I will start hitting sets too when they hit AK top 2 pair. (See the hand evaluation forum to see what I am talking about)

Also remember that I did go on everest 50 --> 250$ FR NL but everest is without a doubt very very fishy compared to full tilt. I am thinking if I can move up the limits on full tilt poker, then the other website will be a joke and I will bonus hop :).

Oh and AA is my big losing hand. 75% winning rate -5 $ :\. Most of it preflop.

And I am still having huge problems with my bet size it seems from the evaluation forums. I love finding leaks in my game :).

See you guys!
Tonight SC2 :).

Hello friends,

Been a few days since last update, didn't have much time to play :).

So...I am having a lot of time to make money out of those NL2 people.

As I mention before, they are so tight now. I am even wondering what's the point to 3 bet or 4 bet with aces when they are going to fold. Is it really going to be profitable at the long term?...

Times are changing a lot. I am in the process of reading verner (Sp?) PDF and I hope it will help me. The bronze articles on this website were made quite a while ago if I am correct and I am not sure they apply 100% to the current times, what do you guys think?

I did a small session yesterday and today.

Yesterday I won fifty cents and today like 2$....I guess this is not bad for NL2. I will post many hands at the hand evalution forum today and hopefully will be able to get a hoodie! :). lol.

I am looking forward to this saturday hopefully I will get a sweat session with MrMardyBum or whoever else wants to get in touch with me. I am always up to discuss some hands.

My big problems right now :

:club: Should I consider the turn the new flop? (double barrel most of the time because people don't fold to cbet anymore?)
:club: And related to that, should I call more cbet to try to grap the pot with a bluff on the turn?
:club: QQ preflop, 3Bet? Calling 4bet with kings.
:club: How do I extract the most value from my opponent when I hit a set after just calling? Should I raise with pocket pairs all the time even if I hit set 1/7. Because when you only call the pot is like 6BB and people might have crap. (This is why I love the call20 rule for pocket pairs, allows you to actually make lot of profit when you hit a set.)
:club: Playing against donkey bets that makes no sense...Today I caught a few bluffs, but is that a good thing? These people had stats like 50/4/60

Anyways...I have questions in my head like that.

BR : 72 $

My Ev line is still 20$ above :\...Wonde rwhat that means.
Take care everyone, will try to update tomorrow.

I find double barreling conti-bets on the micros to work quite a lot, although if they call the Turn i'd check/fold the river unless you hit :)

In my experience players on NL2 will not be able to let a bluff go if they get called, and there have been a few times where they have pushed over the top to my 3bet, I have called and caught their bluffs, so I would be wary of trying to bluff them out.

I would 3bet with QQ and if you get 4bet fold it.

Shh, you're giving away secrets!!! I thought the double barrel C-Bet was my baby. I feel sad now. :(

Hello stevegold.. Good to see you in the community. Keep the blog going and grind it out! You will hit the end when you see the light!

A couple of things for u to consider:

At nl2, play ABC poker. Do not try to catch bluffs or bluff yourself. You will only hurt your BR. Like what my good friend supeyrio used to say.
BLUFF LESS VALUE MORE

Also, another saying I can give you is small hands are for small pots and big hands are for big pots. Overall, your play is alright. You just need to be able to let go of hands you know you are already behind with. AK is an example of a problem hand from what I see.

Last but not least, handle your tilt. No point giving others more money when you have already lost.

Cheers and if you need help, I can offer my advice though I am not that much better then you!

Hope to see more updates!

The small pots for small hands, big pots for big hands saying helped me to no ends when I started playing again Helped me learn how to control the size of the pot and has saved me a lot of money

Hi summermonkey, thanks for reading lol. I will for sure bluff less even if it looks like I am bluffing, I am actually not really bluffing often. It is just after realizing that people never folds to cbet but always fold to turn bet if they have nothing that I have considering it doing it way more often! But you are right, NL2 SHOULD be ABC poker but right now I find that the players are much better than expected ;)

I will try to keep in mind the small pots for small hands and big pots for big hands people ;) Thanks.

So does everyone really double barrel now these days? You sharky people _cool: _cool:

Going to play a 1h30 session now after reviewing some hands on hands evaluation, Might post results,

Take care everyone

Take care everyone, will try to update tomorrow.

1. If people don't fold to cbet, they usually won't fold the turn. Most of the time it means they hit a pair or some draw they intend to chase. Only time I'd barrel the turn is if I knew the guy was chasing a draw and also - a good time to barrel the turn is if it pairs.

Let's say flop is T84, you bet - he calls. Turn comes 4. Betting here again is more likely to work than in "other" cases, because if the guy is really on a draw, this turn card didn't help him and I noticed people will generally fold more often on such "unimproved" turns.

2. Only time I'd consider calling a cbet is if you noticed a guy cbets and then check/folds the turn. Against such guys, you can float a wider range of hands in position and just wait for him to surrender the pot. But still I don't think you should always call these guys and just blindly expect to steal the pot on every checked turn, provided he does check it every time you call :P

In general, you don't need to find these bluffing spots. You primarily need to keep yourself out of trouble and to find a way to get your big hands paid - anything besides that is redundant to beat NL2 and it's mostly like playing a chess game against a rock (like literally, you take some stone on the beach or wherever, put it on the other side of the chess board and then try to play chess against it :P).

-only way you can beat a superior opponent is to make him defeat himself. Example being, you're a Level 2 player, opponent is Level 5. You can't get into his head and figure out his plans, but you can make him get lost in his 5 levels of thinking and out-think himself So don't let this happen to yourself, if you're playing against fish, play accordingly :P

3. QQ I don't know what our coaches and legitimate players would advise. As for me - from personal experience, you can 3bet/fold queens and if a guy is deep stacked and you have the right odds, you can just call his raise preflop and treat your QQ like any other smaller pocket pair.

KK, I'd usually just go broke with preflop. Yes, there will be many times you'll run into AA but in general you shouldn't feel bad going broke with KK. Especially if it's a bigger 4bet or something, it looks kinda silly to enter the pot with 1/3 of your stack or more and then fold the flop - I mean if any A flop comes, you'll fold. If any A doesn't come, you'll go broke and still lose to AA.

Only difference being that by just calling preflop - you allow QQ/AK hands to get away on the flop or if they spike an A/Q, to put you all in when you're far behind, whereas if they were willing to go broke with those hands preflop, you'd be the one whose far ahead :P

4. You can take pretty much 2-3 lines or whatever with a flopped set. The best solution is obviously to donkbet, lead out for like half the pot or maybe more, maybe less.

It depends on your opponents, if you know they'll go broke light, then you can donk more on the flop, if you know they read small bets as weakness, then you can bet small to induce a bluff. If you think they are just normal guys, you can bet half the pot because then he won't get easily scared away if he has TPTK and he won't get a cheap price to see the turn card.

If you mindonk to bluff induce, then I guess you can just call his raise and check the turn to allow him to continue with the bluff and hang himself. On the turn you can then check-raise all-in, I'm not sure if you can check-call. In general I wouldn't recommend slowplaying that much, you just don't want to hit yourself on the head when you slowplay to river and get sucked out because of that. So just don't be afraid to put your money in good, if they fold - it's not a thing to cry or feel sorry about :P

Your other option is to check-raise the flop. It looks super strong, so again. It depends on your opponents. If you're up against a type of guy who feels attached to his hand after he puts some money into the pot - check-raise could be your best option. Because if you donkbet into such an opponent, he may find an easier fold on the flop because he didn't invest that much money into the pot.

Against thinking opponents, you can usually check-call flop and then check-raise the turn. This way you get two bluffs out of him. However, I think check-calling and then donkbetting the turn is more profitable because your bet on the turn will look so strange - whereas check-raise on the turn will make it more obvious to some thinking player that you slowplayed a monster or just hit something big :P

5. This is a tough one. Basically, many players on NL2 make random bluffs without any logic. Like they'll bluff a bottom paired turn to make you think they hit trips and like - wtf, who the hell will be afraid of those trips after the previous action or whatever?

So basically, any donkbet that looks out of place is very often a bluff. However...a weird and completely strange bet can even more often also mean they slowplayed a monster, hit some backdoor gutshot, weird bottom trips :P some two pair, etc. etc.

So in general - you can just give yourself a break and not get into the "bluff-catcher" role too much - most of the time you want to catch them making mistakes is when they call you with a weaker hand. Catching them bluffing you with a weaker hand is bit trickier and due to the erratic style of play with not that many solid rules in their game and thought processes, it just gets hard to make a good read based on the given action - because it all makes no sense

Hey Dendra friend,

First let me thank you for taking time answering my question in such a precise and good way.

1) You are right that I shouldnt 2 double barrel in most case, after thinking about it, in the end I will just be a bank for people who actually hit something. The paired board situation seems very good too and I am playing too many tables to know if people are actually folding to double barrels all the time.

2) lol@ playing against a rock :P NL2 people are not that bad imo anymore. I will try to not overthink any situation :)

3) QQ has always been a problem for me and I think it is a problem for many people. I doubt 3 bets in the long term for queens is profitable.

4) Yea I tend to avoid check/raise on turn because I read and see everywhere that if somebody does that just give away your hand unless you have a monster yourself...

5)

Oh by the way I just learned what donk bet really meant lol. I thought it meant just somebody putting a crazy bet size out of no where. This is what I face a lot. People don't have initiative and bet like pot size and when you call them they check the flop :\.

I don't think I would call a pot size bet on higher limit but it is so common that they try to take the pot with a pot sized cbet that it annoys me sometimes....But still I guess I shouldn't take too much risk since I will just end up being a losing player.

Thanks again, update is on the way :]

Hello everyone!

So I had 2 last good session I can say! Things went pretty smooth and I can say that ladyluck was finally on my side for a few shots!

I finally hit a set when somebody had aces, and he was like "SICK" and I answered : Usually it's the other way around..

Honestly guys, isn't hitting a set and able to stack a guy with that the most satisfying thing ever?

Lol, here's the hand.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (7 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

SB ($2.59)
BB ($2.38)
UTG ($2.69)
MP1 ($2.07)
MP2 ($0.96)
Hero (CO) ($2.87)
Button ($2)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 5, 5
UTG bets $0.10, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.10, 3 folds

Flop: ($0.23) 3, 5, K (2 players)
UTG bets $0.32, Hero calls $0.32

Turn: ($0.87) 10 (2 players)
UTG bets $1, Hero raises to $2.45 (All-In), UTG calls $1.27 (All-In)

River: ($5.41) K (2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: $5.41 | Rake: $0.36

Results:
UTG had A, A (two pair, Aces and Kings).
Hero had 5, 5 (full house, fives over Kings).
Outcome: Hero won $5.05

Ahhh, good times.

Ok, I have also a funny story for today, I actually misclicked all-in by mistake when I meant just to raise a pot, see what happends next : (In the end I thought maybe I should go all in randomly on those kinds of flops, getting 2/3 chances of win!) I obviously would never go all in for 2$ in a 5 cents pot. That guy has some guts to call me too ....

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (9 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

CO ($0.49)
Button ($2.15)
SB ($0.75)
Hero (BB) ($2.03)
UTG ($2.04)
UTG+1 ($2.10)
MP1 ($2.08)
MP2 ($1.45)
MP3 ($2)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 7, Q
UTG calls $0.02, 7 folds, Hero checks

Flop: ($0.05) Q, 7, 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $2.01 (All-In), UTG calls $2.01

Turn: ($4.07) 3 (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: ($4.07) 10 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: $4.07 | Rake: $0.27

Results:
Hero had 7, Q (two pair, Queens and sevens).
UTG had Q, J (one pair, Queens).
Outcome: Hero won $3.80

So these days there is a lot of people who tries to blind steal...see what happends to this guy when he tried to steal my blind ( he did it many times in a row, I knew he didn't have a strong hand)

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (5 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

UTG ($2.20)
MP ($7.62)
Button ($2)
SB ($1.86)
Hero (BB) ($2)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 10, A
3 folds, SB bets $0.06, Hero calls $0.04

Flop: ($0.12) J, 3, Q (2 players)
SB bets $0.12, Hero calls $0.12

Turn: ($0.36) K (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.25, SB raises to $1.11, Hero raises to $1.82 (All-In), 1 fold

Total pot: $2.58 | Rake: $0.17

Results:
Hero didn't show 10, A.
Outcome: Hero won $2.41

You might wonder why I called the pot size bet on the flop? Well I am ready to hear your opinion about this, but he was very agressive and as I said to Dendra people do a lot of pot size cbet and check/fold the turn. Also I was thinking that this guy would pay me if I hit my gutshot...A lot of luck for sure, but hey, they are lucky against me too sometimes :).

So here's my graph now! It still looks very bad because it goes up and down and non constant ( I look like a donkey ) But at least right now it's going in the good direction and catching that EV line back. Lol.

I just hope I will be able to be more constant in the future....like those people who have straight linear graph that goes up! ;). lol.

Today there was a lot of fishes at the table..It was strange. Maybe I should play more during the day and less during the night. Europeans fishes are more fishes than american fishes? lol...Just an hypothesis don'T kill me!

I don't even have a hand to post today in the hand evalution, but I posted so much already I think it doesn't really matter....

Will probably play another session tonight and tommorrow.

Will update if something major happens :).

Also this is poker, so I am aware that a big downswing can happens anytime, at least I am a little bit more mentally ready than before!

Thanks for reading.

hey, yeh, I thought in the beginning than donk bet means like really big weird bet, some stupid, fishy bet

then I took a quiz here on ps.com about donkbets and realized donkbets are actually when a player leads into the preflop aggressor :P

-I also thought 3bet means to raise 3x :P whereas it's like reraise, 4bet is re-reraise etc. :P

Anyway - about the "rock", I was only joking, to some extent :P

FTP NL2 is imo very bad, low action, nitfest, people play their cards, very linear play. Of all the sites, I'd recommend PokerStars for NL2, action there is just great, almost 24/7 you got donkeys (maybe during 1pm-6pm or whatever action is a bit tighter).

On PokerStars you can also play deep stack up to 24 tables all the time - whereas FTP has like what, 4-8 deep stack tables? Usually you can get 4 up and running if the traffic is good :P

As for NL10, I think they're similar from what I saw and NL5, I dunno, but on PokerStars NL5 is horrible - swarmed with nits, set miners (8/1 fish who chase sets and fold instantly any missed flops/weak made hands, so it can be annoying to get paid off :P)

As for QQ - I'd say 3bet is better against people who fold more often to 3bets, in that case I'd even 3bet with AQ, not with AJ but that depends. If the guy has AJ+ raising range but only 4bets with AA/KK, 3betting with AJ would be fine as well I guess :P

In general, against deep stacks you can just flat call with QQ and against short stacks you pretty much have to decide if they have AA/KK or AJ++ hand range.

Btw - it's harder to play with just big stacks QQ because you get way lower implied odds compared to the deep stacked tables.

Another thing is - our coaches may recommend 3betting with QQ because it is too weak to just call or fold and blablabla - but they forget it's NL2. None of our coaches play that limit, they're mostly on NL10+++ and that means action is a bit different.

For example, the latest video Move it up to the sky by twicet - in there he sais how you can shove JJ in x spot on NL XX, but on NL25 it makes no sense because the game isn't so in-depth and players' ranges aren't that wide or whatever.

Same principle applies for QQ - sure, it's +ev to maybe even go broke with QQ if you're surrounded by players who shove AQ++ or whatever, but on NL2 - you're gonna face 2 kind of opponents who will go broke with big stack: a) nits who go broke with KK/AA and maybe AK, b) idiots.

You just have to identify the idiots and call them with QQ, and move out of the way of the nitty big stacks :P

Anyway, gl with your poker game, have fun :)

btw regarding the hands you posted:

gg for the 1st hand, by the turn he had invested so much money into the put he wouldn't lay down TPTK or overpair no way no how :P I mean when you check-raise there, they pretty much don't care about anything - their thought process is: "Turn is a ten, the guy raised me, he must have a ten, that's good, I got a bigger pair, he is sooo dead."

Fish usually go street by street and rarely connect to the previous action - whereas if they play passively and suddenly come out of nowhere with a huge bet, you can rest assured they slowplayed a flopped monster or have just caught a monster :P

the Q7 2pair hand - basically the guy had a monsterish flop, top pair+fd, unless he puts you on a higher flush/flush draw, he pretty much has an easy call I believe.

On the other hand, for you - if you let's say flop a set or a flush, it's always good to bet strong and sometimes even shove (even if pot is small), because people will call you with their Ax, Kx flush draws - or in this case Qx top pair+fd :P

If you equilate his QJ fd+top pair against your hand range, you'll see he wasn't that crazy to call you and also one thing - I used to hate same suited flops if I hit a set or something, but nowadays I look at it as an opportunity - because your opponent could be on a flush draw and you can make him pay for it. Only sometimes will he flop a flush, and that's kinda rare+you can often get a read on people and figure they got it.

the last hand - have you considered 3betting the blind steals? 3bet/fold line. Basically what you want to do in the beginning is to see who folds to re-steals. In general, I'll let a guy steal the first time, next round I see him raising again, I'll 3bet and see how he reacts and take a note of it :P

I mean if you make him fold 1/2 times he blind steals you, you'll make him lose more money than he makes against you - because he'll usually raise 3BB or maybe 4BB (that's also a read, some people raise various hands differently)

You can also defend in the big blind post-flop. Go for a donkbet or check-raise - and again take note of his reactions (don't neglect the board, I mean it ain't the same to donkbet a T high flop and a KJ3 flop or something, because he will have a lot of time in his stealing range some Kx/Ax hands and such, so by his reaction on various flops, you can actually figure out his range - obviously if flop is KJ3 and he folds - you can be pretty sure he didn't have a K in his range and probably not even a J, so his stealing range could be A5o+++ or something)

Their stealing range isn't exactly defined, so it's hard to say A5o++ or something, it's just rough idea of what they're doing :P

In general, you can completely forget blind defense on NL2 and literally raise every time in SB vs BB. Try out 2BB raises, if they don't work, go for 3BB. Also if a guy defends a lot vs you, don't bother, you can steal blinds on other tables, you just don't need to get into any unnecessary fights - and you'll get plenty of chances to "practice" blind fights on NL10+++ where it actually gets more important to blind steal/defend than on NL2.

-btw I'm saying you'll get to practice blind steals later on also because most of the time on NL2, people raise with a legitimate hand and you might think it's a blind steal - and out-think yourself :) So sometimes it's best to wait for the right time to practice certain aspects of poker - I mean you can't try to swim 5meters deep in a pool that's 3meters deep, you'll end up smashing your head against its bottom :P

This thread has now the Dendra effect on it. lol, since you started to reply to my thread I am in a crazy upswing, I hope it last.

So Dendra, thanks again for your answers and I have considered switching website because I found NL2 on full tilt to be harder than everest the website I went on. The main problem for me is that my pokerstars account is not link to pokerstrategy since it was when I started to play poker that I have it...Or else I would probably be on that website hehe. I already cashed a few times from there when I was a donkey.

And my thought about NL5 and NL10 is that you might actually run into more donkeys than NL2. Here's my thinking : (Put yourself in a donkey head) :

" I just deposited 50$ on fulltilt and I know nothing about poker. I will play on one table and see what happens. I am not stupid enough to go at NL25 or higher because I know I don't have enough money to do that, but I don't want to start at NL2 because I feel like I will be playing for nothing. Therefore NL5 or NL10 seems like a good place to start and kick ass! " [/donkey]

I got actually pretty lucky with my QQ ( uh oh jinx? ) and I didn'T run often into aces or kings...I think my QQ has a higher winning rate then my AA and KK so I might just keep playing them like I do now...Maybe sometimes 3bet, depending on opponents.

My 2nd hand was definally sick and yea I do understand he has great odds but still...2$ into 5 cents pots....at the same time he did had the top pair plus flush draw.

I sometimes 3bet against BTN when they try to steal my BB and I have decent hand, no just any hand..but I guess I could try it as total bluff.

Now for the session tonight I'll keep it short but I am very excited.

To be honest tonight it seemed like Full tilt was full of fishes...I couldn't understand. People shoving pre flop with crap, going all in on the flop with middle pair.

But also I got very lucky and once got AA vs KK
The other time I was able to get money from a set of 4 against AA :). (God I like that feeling, but I need to try not to become a set chaser as you call them at the next limits lol)

Really I don't have much to say because I was playing about 7 tables and really focusing at the moment so I wasn't able to write down any hands I needed to review.

I remember doing a mistake for 2$ calling 2 pair when the flush was the board...but I was so pot commited by the river.

I will remember that wednesday is a good day to play so far for me. My whiteboard shows me that last week I had some great profit on that day also.

And now time for some Starcraft 2 !! :)

Br is now 85!!

My BB/100 is at 5...much better, and my graph looks great lol. Will post it maybe next update because I don't want to spam graphs.

Btw tomorrow is friday!

1) End of the week (which wasnt very hard for me anyways
2) Rakeback!!!!!! _cool: _cool: At FTP with pokerstrategy, people love fridays!
