OK, so it's time for that game changer that I spoke about earlier and that you've all been so patiently awaiting.

Before Christmas when I was having bankroll runbadaments I posted a thread on a website X seeking a coaching and backing deal for MTSNG and MTTs. I did this without holding much hope as let's face it I don't have the time for grindaments like most of the poker population. Over the Christmas period, I was contacted by Mister X on Skype and with the holiday period and time difference we missed each other until this morning.

After a brief conversation in the early hours today, he offered me a trial period deal to play $2.50 and $8 MTSNGs and I have happily accepted it. We also had a short coaching session that just concluded and we are both very happy with how that went. As I said the trail period is for a few weeks and hopefully we will extend that and also include MTTs at some point in the near future.

So, my plans will be altered once I've had time to digest this news and work out a new schedule and goals. I no longer will be going full force for the 400 games as previously stated. I am going to work hard on my game with my coach and hopefully move on from there.

My backer, for all intents and purposes would like to remain anonymous at this point.

----

On the tables today I had quite a few cashes, and had my first FT of the year. Unfortunately, I finished 4th and finished a majority of the others on the 2nd and 3rd FTs. I'm running bad in key spots. Hopefully in the near future this will turn and I can start printing $$$

Good night folks!

OK. Motivation levels seems to be at an all time high after yesterday's turn of events. However, I believe it is time to alter my goals for January.

The initial plan was to grind, grind, grind the $2.50s and to play 400 games in total. I probably would have shaded it although it is hard to say in all honesty. I have played 60 games but yesterdays plan changed quite drastically. Anyways, no point in focusing on what may or may not have been.

My backer sent me $200 yesterday and asked me to 6 table up to $8 180s. He doesn't mind what ratio I play but I think I will likely do 5:1 $2.50s during peak traffic and maybe 4:2 when there are less regulars around. He isn't rushing me to play 100 games or anything, so I will play at my own pace. I think quality > quantity right now. Getting my game plan in the different stages is going to be key.

He seemed very happy with my push/fold game, he liked how nitty I was pre-ante although there was one or two things that he noted I should maybe not do.

Overall, it was a very positive experience for us both and hopefully something we can continue for a long time :)

Goals for this week:

- Play solid ABC poker and keep to a maximum of 6 tables
- Spend more time studying opponents in game and base decisions a little more on stats
- Play 50 games, I don't mind the ratio so much, that will depend on when I play.
- Review each and every game and mark hands that I have queries about with Mister X
- Profit? Nah, that doesn't matter right now!

Have a nice Monday all.

Great news, really happy to hear that things are starting well this year for you.

I'm sure it's going to be a hell of ride from here on, like others mentioned and you obv know too, a good coach will make a huge difference.

Thank you. Yes, definitely a great start to 2015 for me. Hopefully it will follow on to the online felt as well!

We never know what is around the corner, so as much as we can expect a wild ride, we have to deal with each and every turn when they come. That has always been an issue for me. That HAS to change :)

Session over:

Small set tonight, managed 5 $2.50s and one $8

I was later starting than normal so I had limited time this evening. Not super happy with how the session went. I was asking myself too many questions and probably over-thinking things a little bit. I marked a few hands for review in game and I well forensically go through them hand by hand tomorrow evening.

A little tired tonight so that's a wrap!

I took yesterday off, completely. I've always neglected to take time away and I think it's going to be important that I do. I know it's probably funny to most of you who play 100hrs a week compared to my 10-20.

I've reviewed my Monday night games and I have marked a few hands for coach to go over when we have a session. I am quite happy with how I played even if I wasn't straight after my session. I made some big folds and my push/fold game was spot on. Whether that is optimal for the $2.5s is another question.

Hoping to get 2 sessions in today and maybe play 15 games.

Session 1 of the day just came to a close.

In total I played just 9 games, 6 $2.50s and 3 $8s. I had my first final table of the stake and a couple of other deep runs in the $2.50s but no such luck in the $8s although I did come relatively close to cashing in one.

Skill level seems to be more or less the same. Traffic is fairly slow on the $8s, especially in the late morning and early afternoon.

Decent session in the end, finished 2nd and a couple of disappointing 12ths where we got coolered for a FT stack but that's life.

Very proud of the 2nd place finish as I was effectively dead on the FT bubble and was 9/9. Turned it around though and got all the way to HU but was a 6:1 dog and it only lasted 2 hands.

I expect the lower traffic is a bit like nl at those times, a bit of a regfest? Unlike you, I have the luxury of being able to choose to come off when it gets all nitty and trappy, if I'm not in the mood for it.

Nice to see you're playing well.

Hey Mal,

Wouldn't say a regfest as most of them are unknown to me. Still quite a decent amount of fish in the $8s as well :)

Hope all is well at NL10?

OK then time for an update.

We are through 24 games of the stake so far. In total we have played 19 x $2.50s and 5 $8s

Results wise - I am in profit not that it means a whole lot right now but it is a bonus! I have bricked all the $8s (meh tvariance) and had 2 FTs in the $2.50s finishing 2nd and 7th along with a few 12th-18ths

Had some God awful coolers in tonight's session and in general I can say that I've been on the wrong side of variance overall but LOL sample of course!

No pokerz tomorrow, review mode again and then a big session on Friday night!

Good luck at the tables!

POP QUIZ!

Time for a pop quiz ladies and gentlemen! I had a few difficult situations yesterday and I thought I'd share them all with you!

Question 1:

Situation: We are 9/10 on the stone cold bubble. The shortest stack of the tourament shoves and we are in the BB. We are in Hand for Hand play and the other table's action is over.

Poker Stars No-Limit Hold'em Tournament, 1,000/2,000 Blinds (5 handed) - Poker Stars Converter Tool from http://flopturnriver.com/

Button (t58,900)
SB (t44,649)
Hero (BB) (t13,981)
UTG (t35,341)
MP (t6,807)

Hero's M: 4.66

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8, Q
1 fold, MP raises t6,607, 2 folds, Hero???

Call or Fold?

Question 2:

Situation: We are doing OK, 50 people left. We pick up a medium hand in the BB and a shorty has shoved from MP for little under 5BB.

CO (t1,993)

Hero's M: 5.83

Preflop: Hero is BB with 9, 8
4 folds, CO raises t1,943, 2 folds, Hero.....

Call or Fold?

Question 3:

Situation: We are in the money, with a healthy top 4 stack with 25 people left. An unknown one tabling player shoves from MP. A fish calls off his short stack from the BU and we are in the BB with ATo

What do we do here?

Question 1 - depending on his stats. But I think I'd call since we have a decent hand, he'd probably shoves a pretty wide range now.

Question 2 - Fold. It's more than 50% or our Stack

Question 3 - It would be nice to know how much dead money (blinds + antes) is already in the pot, because depending on that there will be too much dead money inside so you will have the odds for an easy call.

You won't be able to rely on stats very often in this spot unless you're lucky to have a reg in the hand with you and not a random as this guy was.

Q8o indeed is a call, we can call very wide here.

Fold was indeed correct although it is relatively close.

Calling range should be 37.3%, 22+ Ax+ K3s+ K8o+ Q6s+ QTo+ J7s+ JTo T7s+ T9o 97s+ 86s+ 76s 65s

Blinds as mentioned were 500/1000 and the Ante was 100.

So 100*10+1500 = 2500 in the pot. So yeah, easy odds call there as well!

Thanks for the feedback. Well didn't see the blinds while reading the first time... happens when you spent so much time online ^^

So you spent the whole day with reviews yesterday? What's your plan for the weekend?

Yea lol I can imagine. Not sure why the antes were left out as well. You'll get to know what antes are at specific blind levels when you start playing the 180s anyways.

I spent a little time reviewing yesterday indeed. I'm trying to balance work life, family life and poker life so I can't play every evening. For the minute I am trying to play 4 nights a week with Sunday being my main volume day.

My wife is working in her brother in law's bar on Friday nights (not sure if this is going to last very long) but this means 4 hours of uninterrupted poker! So tonight I will be meeting up with coach and hopefully hands I've marked and have a live session with him watching me :)

Well, I guess once you've got a family it's harder to get all the things working out and you have to rely on them supporting you. That's why I'm kind of happy that I don't have to care a lot about other people in my life, and can basicly just plan everything like I want it... besides my flatmates ofc who are always trinking to get me to party with them...
