Pure Bluff

A pure bluff is a bet made with a weak hand that one would, in all probability, lose. The bet is intended to make the opponent fold. One's own hand has either no or slim chances of development. The primary aim of the bluff is to get the opposition to fold. On a metalevel, however, one can make a bluff with just the opposite intent. One might wish to be caught bluffing in order to be paid off with a good hand later because the opposition (wrongly) suspects another bluff.
