#1 More precise thinking

blog writing

Want to improve your thinking? Create a blog. A blog requires you to precisely convey your thoughts and clearly describe your actions.

While pouring thoughts into a blog we try to make our posts understandable not only for us but for our readers. This forces more precise thinking about what we write. Therefore, if you describe a hand you've participated in, you try to describe it as accurately as possible

The result is that while thinking about what to write by hand, we start to see things that we may not have picked up on when we first analysed the hand ourselves. And as we know, the more information we are able to uncover about our hands, the better for our bankroll.

#2 Evidence of progress

Evidence of progress

A blog that's been updated regularly for a year (or longer) is an invaluable source of knowledge about our development. While learning new skills, everyone stumbles on a period of "plateau" at some stage. During this period, we no longer note the huge increase in our acquisition of competence in the way we did when we first started out.

At a time like this we may encounter a crisis of confidence in which we convince ourselves we've actually learned nothing at all. However, if we have a blog to refer back to, we can look at a post from one or two years ago and judge for ourselves.

When we see what level of mastery our skill was at a year ago, and then where it is in the present, we know that what we've been doing makes sense and that our apparent failure to improve was only an illusion!

#3 Positive and negative feedback

Blog feedback

Few things are more productive for novices in any field than hearing "how well you did" from an experienced colleague. No matter what form the praise comes in, be it a simple thumbs up or two sides of detailed analysis, each nice comment builds our confidence and allows us to look more optimistically into the future.

Negative feedback is certainly less enjoyable, as instead of feeding our ego, it gives it a good slap. However, it is also vital to our development. When we do something wrong, it's important someone tells us about it so we can learn and improve. It's simple - if we aren't aware we're doing something wrong, we cannot consciously change it.

Having a blog gives you access to many of the people who are qualified to provide you with both these types of important feedback. Take advantage of this!

#4 Meet new people

meet new people

When you create a blog you stop being a passive, anonymous participant in the age of networking. An author of a blog becomes a "somebody", a creator of content. Contact with the readers themselves is satisfying, but there are other pluses.

Most people are far more willing to help or give advice to someone they feel they know or can associate with than someone who is completely anonymous. And thanks to your blog anonymity is no longer an issue.

#5 Adventure

Indiana Jones

You never know where writing a blog will take you. You might discover your inner author and take up blog writing as a new hobby. Perhaps you'll meet some fascinating people who will change your life for the better. Maybe someone will inspire you with their feedback. Perhaps you will become...
