EPT Madrid Day 1a: Adeniya Sits Comfortably in 8th Place
The first day of play at the 2012 PokerStars EPT Madrid is in the books. English poker pro Martins Adeniya and Romanian businessman Anton Ionel are the best-known players with big stacks at the end of the day. Find out what happened on Day 1a.

The PokerStars European Poker Tour is in Madrid, Spain this week. Monday was the first day of the €5,300 Main Event, and 125 players entered. 92 of them still held chips at the end of the day and will return for Day 2.
Last year's EPT Madrid was the tour's Grand Final event, so this year's decreased turnout was expected. That said, attendance should still increase significantly on Day 1b.
What happened on Day 1a?
The leaders - The overall chip leader at the end of the day was Ukrainian Sergiy Baranov, who will bring 152,500 chips with him to Day 2. Romanian Anton Ionel sits in second place and is no stranger to EPT success - in 2011 he finished in 3rd place at the PCA for $1.35 million.
Who else still has chips? - English poker pro Martins Adeniya sits in 8th place with 95,000 chips. Adeniya has acquired huge chip stacks very frequently over the last year, but unfortunately he hasn't broken through to the top few places of a tournament quite yet. Barny Boatman (53,300), Chris Moorman (51,900), and Dermot Blain (41,500) will also head to Day 2 with comfortable stacks.
Who hit the rail early? - Three Team PokerStars Pros couldn't survive Day 1a - Martin Staszko, Pierre Neuville, and Marcin Horecki. Additionally, Roberto Romanello, James Dempsey, and Marcel Bjerkmann were robbed of all of their chips.
Day 1b will begin today at 12:00 CET.
