Cunning "slyfox151" outwits Sunday Million field

Yesterday PokerStars celebrated the sixth anniversary of its flagship tournament as 33,732 players lined up to take part in a bumper $6 million guaranteed Sunday Million.

The tournament managed to smash its guarantee by nearly $750,000, meaning over $1 million was up for grabs for the winner.

With such an enormous sum on the line, players decided to make a deal eight-handed, with Finland's "toode" taking the lion's share, banking an impressive $590,482.92 after the chop.

The eventual winner was Dutch player "slyfox151" who took down the tournament and a $480,761.38 payday.

Superstar letdown: Match postponed

Railbirds were left cursing Maltese internet service providers last night, as the eagerly anticipated Blom/Haxton Superstar Showdown was postponed after just 692 hands.

Isaac "philivey2694" Haxton had complained of a problematic internet connection after heavy storms in Malta two days ago and after a series of disconnects his match with Viktor "Isildur1" Blom was postponed until later this week.

Even though the duo only managed 692 hands, Viktor Blom sits comfortably placed, leading the match as he does by $99,886.

High stakes corner

Viktor Blom should be thankful for Ike Haxton's patchy Maltese internet connection this morning, after diverting his attentions to highstakes PLO following the postponement of the Superstar Showdown.

The enigmatic Blom had another one of those nights, ripping through the $100/$200 PLO tables at PokerStars and leaving the likes of Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies ($-355k) and PokerStrategy.com's jenskyllonen ($-311k) in his wake.

It was a huge night for Blom, who padded his bankroll by $522,306 according to HighStakesDB. Rafi "refaelamit" Amit also enjoyed a storming session, banking over $360,000 in the process.

EPT Madrid kicks off

The European Poker Tour is back in the Spanish capital of Madrid this week.

Hundreds of poker hopefuls will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of EPT7 Grand Final champion Ivan Freitez, who took the spoils under contentious circumstances last year.

This year's EPT Madrid is a €5300 buy-in affair, with the €10,000 Grand Final returning to Monte Carlo next month.
