Gruissem leads PCA $100K

PokerStrategist Philipp 'philgruissem' Gruissem took yesterday's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 Super High Roller event by storm.

A total of 47 players (plus 10 rebuys), including professionals and rich amateurs, took their shot at glory throughout the tournament's opening session.

When the action closed it was Gruissem's 771,500 stack that led the way.

However, despite his lead, today's session won't be easy for the German player as the likes of Scott Seiver (729,000), Dan Shak (650,000) and Tom Marchese (638,500) are all hot on his heels.

Also surviving yesterday's cut were PokerStrategists Fabian 'fabstinho' Quoss (302,000) and Tobias 'pokernoob' Reinkemeier (433,000).

While the field appeared to have settled by the end of yesterday's session, rebuys are still available today which could mean we see the rise of some other famous faces.

Judge goes easy on Elie

Chad Elie (pictured left), one of the payment processors caught up in the Black Friday arrests, has earned a reprieve from Judge Lewis Kaplan.

Elie emerged on Twitter a few months ago and provided a series of insights into what went on between payment processors and the likes of Full Tilt before the DOJ's indictments.

For his part in the situation, Elie was sentenced to five months in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center; a maximum security prison known for its violent inmates.

However, following a plea by his attorney, Elie will now serve his sentence in the less strict Taft Correctional Institution.

The minimum security prison will allow him more privileges and make it easier for his family, which includes his wife former Playboy model Destiny Davis, to visit him.

Rettenmaier's the best

Marvin's number one

PokerStrategist Marvin 'xcrash154' Rettenmaier's rise to fame over the last twelve month's has been phenomenal.

Banking over $2.5 million and earning himself WPT and EPT titles, Marvin established himself as one of the best young players in the world.

Those achievements have now been recognised by the tournament world's most comprehensive ranking system: The Global Poker Index.

After scoring 33,500 points, Marvin has jumped ahead of Jason Mercier and Dan Smith, to become the highest ranked tournament player in the world.

After learning of his ranking, Marvin spoke to the GPI's Jennifer Newell and described the achievement as "awesome".

High stakes corner

2013 is shaping up to be the year of Viktor "Isildur1" Blom (pictured left), as the Swede has managed a third successive day at the top of the high stakes leaderboard.

After banking over $1.1 million over the last two days, Blom earned himself a further $715,586 in the last 24 hours to take his 2013 total to $1,859,671.

Also making rare appearance on yesterday's high stakes chart was Brian "sbrugby" Townsend.

Having been largely absent from the high stakes scene for the past two years, Brian scooped $43,529 to finish the day as the sixth biggest winner.
