When poker, fashion and charity pull together to create one picture the results are often entertaining, to say the least. In a recent tweet Phil Hellmuth virtually stunned the Twitter world with the unveiling of a $1,700 Gianni Versace shirt he bought back in 1995.
While Mr. Hellmuth is never one to shy away from bragging about how much he's spent or which celebrity he's partied with, this self-styled fashion shoot wasn’t just to show off. Phil was busy getting ready for another charity event, this time the Artumnal Gathering-Burning Man Fundraiser.
While people may have sneered at the shirt 16 years ago, according to Phil, "it has gone up in value" and the world is now ready to handle its beauty.
Bieber Poker
He may be one of the most famous pop stars in the world and he may only be 17 years old, but that doesn’t mean Justin Bieber is immune from the swings of poker variance.
On a recent stop in London the pop singing sensation was keen to follow in the footsteps of Canadian poker stars such as Daniel Negreanu, Ben Wilinofsky and Shawn Buchanan and crush his management team at the felt.
However, being only 17, the young star was denied access to the casino, so he did what any multi-millionaire would do and hired a dealer to come to his hotel room.
Surprisingly though, a relatively low stakes game ensued according to Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship, who said Justin "got flushed out by one of his tour managers and was bumming out about losing 200 bucks. He said at the start: I’m not going to lose more than $20." It seems it doesn't matter how rich you are, losing money to at the felt hurts no matter what.
Bubble Protection
It's fair to say the Chris "Moorman1" Moorman knows a thing or two about online tournaments, so when he throws his weight behind an idea it’s bound to be a good one.
In his latest move he's working with new site, Bubble Protection, to offer grinders a larger bubble in any tournament they play. Instead of just one player, the "new bubble" consists of 10% of the field. By purchasing protection via the site a player will receive their buy-in plus site fees back if they finish outside the payout structure but within a position that equates to 10% of the field size. For example, in a 1,000 runner tournament the bubble would be 100 places outside the first payout place.
The refunds are instantly transferred to a player's account and according to the Bubble Protection's CEO, Eugene Castro, the site is designed to, "give players the ability to enjoy the game they love more often and more profitably through bankroll preservation, and variance reduction through the use of our proprietary Bubble Protection technology."
High Stakes Corner
"Nameless55" may have wanted to remain under the radar when they dreamt up their username at PokerStars, but with a $78,594 loss over the past 24 hours they are certainly now in the spotlight.
Also having a rough day at the virtual tables was "Sussie Smith" who dropped $54,515, a little more than David Benyamine fan "BenyamineX" who took a bankroll hit of $52,005, according to HSDB.
Enjoying happier times at the felt were "PepperoniF" and "PimpyLimpy" who won $168,881 and $76,456 respectively. Also running well over the past day was high stakes regular Rob "Vaga_Lion" Akery who banked $70,763.
