Jerry Yang: WSOP champ, charity worker and now author

When Jerry Yang won the WSOP Main Event in 2007 he was widely criticised as one of the less skilful players to have won the biggest prize in poker.

Following his life-changing win, Jerry travelled the width and depth of the US to help those who had been less fortunate than him, working tirelessly with several charities.

Four years on and Jerry has just released his book, All In. It's a fascinating read which explores the roots of a man born into hardship in South-East Asia and the tribulations he faced along the way both in poker and in life. PokerNews interviewed Jerry where he spoke about the book and his future plans.

Bad beat jackpot record smashed

One lucky Finnish player was awarded the largest BBJ in online poker history this week. The International Poker Network BBJ had swelled to over €1.2 million, making it the largest ever bad beat jackpot in the history of poker both live and online.

The hand in question saw the player "OmgoMgomGo" lose with quad kings to quad aces on a board of AK9KA, giving him the lion's share of the fund. He took 35% of the BBJ worth €442,954, while the winner of the hand, "7Adelaida7", took 17.5% of the jackpot for a total of €221,477.

The historic hand went down on an NL 100 full ring table, where the remaining seven players were also rewarded €32,000 for their troubles.

Poker's new comedy: Hitting the Nuts

Very few poker movies have ever troubled the box office sales calculator. Rounders and The Cincinatti Kid are undoubtedly classics, but look any further and we'll start discussing the merits of Mel Gibson in Maverick or Eric Bana in Lucky You.

The latest movie to address our great game is US mockumentary Hitting the Nuts. The film tells the tale of the annual illegal poker championship in Scott County, Indiana and proves to be a quirky portrayal of a humorous gang of small town folk.

Cheats busted in Macau

A sophisticated ring of cheaters were the hot topic this week as Macau police arrested seven men on charges of defrauding casinos in the Asian gaming capital.

The men allegedly swindled casinos out of more than HK$24 million using camera-embedded card shuffling machines which were implanted into Bacarrat tables to provide the plucky villains the ultimate edge.

According to Hong Kong paper The Standard, "Suen Kam-fai of the Macau Judiciary Police said syndicate members relied on distractions during the machine switches". Kam-Fai added that "Police seized HK$1 million from the seven and are still calculating the total amount involved in the swindle".

Demetriou continues tirade on Full Tilt Poker

Poker player and businessman Harry Demetriou was one of the loudest voices heard at last week's Full Tilt hearing with the AGCC. Demetriou has not stopped there and yesterday revealed details on the Hendonmob forum of a letter he addressed to the AGCC following the hearing.

Demetriou asked "If there is a shortfall of player funds which means Full Tilt Poker cannot pay their players... where is the money coming from to pay their lawyers and your license fee?"

Mr Demetriou then published the AGCC response to him which rather unsurprisingly stated "unfortunately, the Alderney Gambling Control Commission is unable to comment further at this time".
