Greg Raymer arrested

Just as the Daily Rewind came to publication we were alerted to the news that 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer has been arrested.

According to ABC News, he was arrested on a Wake Forest hotel earlier this week as part of a wider prostitution sting (Editor's note: it was orginally erroneously reported that Raymer was arrested in connection with male prostitution).

"The locations prostitutes choose for this type of criminal activity vary and seldom remain the same for more than a couple of days at a time which makes enforcement difficult," said a police spokesman.

Volpe climbs highest at EPT London

Like a haven for those with deep pockets and nowhere else to grind, EPT London's £10,000 High Roller was the perfect retreat for a host of disillusioned pros yesterday.

Attracting 127 entries, the organisers were forced to consider adding an extra day to the event in order to cater for the high demand.

When the chips had finished flying and the likes of Toby Lewis and Sam Trickett had exited, it was Paul Volpe who topped the 75 survivors.

Having banked over $1 million for his recent back-to-back WPT final tables, Volpe certainly had momentum on his side as he scooped 239,000 chips throughout the day.

Also still in contention at the close of Day 1 were PokerStrategists Fabian 'fabstinho' Quoss (135,800), Tobias 'pokernoob' Reinkemeier (92,400), Marvin'xcrash154' Rettenmaier (47,500), philgruissem (46,300) as well as Martin '0piggybank' Finger (28,900).

Time for change?

The Australian online poker scene could be in for a change if the government applies the recommendations put forward by a recent study.

According to an article on PokerFuse, a "Review of the Interactive Gaming Act 2001 (IGA)" has suggested that online poker tournaments should be made legal.

At present the IGA prohibits online poker, however, many citizens still play on unregulated sites; something recent research claims could pose certain risks.

In light of the review, Senator Stephen Conroy said he wants to "provide a consistent approach to online gambling regulation" across Australia.

While there no plans currently in place, it looks as though Australia may move towards a state-by-state regulatory system at some point in the future.

WPT goes national in London

The World Poker Tour's first National event in London kicked off today inside Aspers Casino today.

Offering players a £1,500+£150 Main Event and a £10,000 High Roller, the mini festival is expected to lure many of the travelling pros currently taking part in EPT London.

In addition to the two main attractions, the organisers have also added an Omaha Bounty tournament and an 8 Max tournament.

Additionally, a satellite to PKR Live (which takes place between March 29 and 31) has been scheduled.

High stakes corner

Cates is unhappy

The ongoing tussle between Daniel Junglemandan Cates and Tom "durrrr" Dwan could boil over into a full blown war according to a recent forum post by Cates.

In a bid to defend his position and give some background into their recent Twitter altercation, Cates revealed that "he texted 'durrrr' twice" before going public.

Since the start of their high stakes match Dwan has approached it in a "ridiculous manner" and he is probably "one of the top five flakiest people I've dealt with", wrote Cates.

Although he "actually likes" Dwan, Cates said he isn't opposed to going public again to air his "disapproval" with the challenge.
