TCOOP final result

PokerStars' fastest festival of the year came to a close yesterday with the much anticipated $2 million guaranteed Main Event.

Unlike the site's other marquee events, the $700 event held the promise of a huge top prize without the usual chore of a marathon grind. Indeed, despite 5,060 players taking to the virtual felt, this year's tournament was over in just 5 hours and 11 minutes.

Dwarfing last year's entrance of figure 3,667, the $2 million prizepool was comfortably exceeded and by the time seven players remained the negotiations began.

Wanting a few thousand more than the $232,224 he was originally offered, TJ "1BigAceHole" Ulmer finally agreed to the deal when the other players explained they’d rather play on than negotiate further.

With $40,000 still left to play for, chip leader "kekim1" continued to dominate the table along with "frma1103". This dynamic continued until "frma1103" finally clinched the title after winning a pre-flop all-in confrontation.

PokerStars don't usually drop the ball when it comes to hosting tournaments, but in their recent Zoom Challenge they got things slightly wrong.

Like all good companies, though, they have been quick to address the problem and suitably compensate those who were affected.

The concept of the tournament was simple: pay $1,050 and collect as many chips as you can at the Zoom play money tables within a set amount of time. However, problems occurred when some players were allowed to compete in groups on the final day of the tournament.

This had previously been prohibited and prompted people to complain that the groups had an advantage by virtue of being able to dump chips to each other.

Fortunately, Lee Jones has addressed the issue and allowed four players to receive a minimum cash of $2,360 and a further two players to receive an extra payment of $2,360.

Poker player dies in Brazilian fire

Clubbers escape blaze

The recent news that almost 300 people have died following a fire inside a Brazilian nightclub has touched the poker community.

According to "PokerMikie", his friend and online grinder Tom Jeffrey was caught up in the tragedy.

Having been forced to move out of the US following Black Friday, Jeffery had set up home in Brazil in order to continue plying his trade online.

Unfortunately, Jeffrey was one of those who didn't make it out of the building in time. Condolences are currently pouring in from players and community members across the world.

High stakes corner

Alexander "PostflopAction" Kostritsyn (pictured left) continued his recent surge of positive results with a $517,538 win in the last 24 hours.

The Russian grinder topped yesterday's high stakes table ahead of Erik "Erik1223" Sagstrom who banked $188,386.

Kostritsyn's 2013 total now stands at $1,168,765, which currently makes him the year's fourth biggest winner.

At the other end of the spectrum, "patpatpanda" suffered the biggest loss of the day after dropping $636,573 over the course of 2,672 hands.
