Daily Rewind: WPT Alpha8, George Lind and WCGRider crushing, WCOOP latest

George Lind has had a massive week at the tables, the new WPT Super High Roller series heads to London and South Africa, and we have all the big results from yesterday.

The new super high roller TV show from the World Poker Tour has just announced two new stops.

The WPT Alpha8 will head to the Palm Beach Casino, Mayfair in London on October 28 this year for a £100,000 buy-in event.

Then in 2014 the tour will head to the Emperors Palace Hotel and Casino Resort in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 14 for a $100,000 re-entry event.

“We are very excited to name London as the second stop for our new Alpha8 series,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “With its long-standing reputation as one of the world’s premier cities and financial capitals, London offers all of the amenities any high-stakes poker player could possibly desire. Its combination of culture, fine dining, nightlife, and enthusiasm for high-stakes poker make it the perfect venue for a unique event such as Alpha8.”

Last month Steven Silverman was crowned the first Alpha8 champion, winning $891,660 after 21 players entered the $100,000 event in Hollywood.

Good week for George Lind

Who said that Sit and Go tournaments were no longer profitable? PokerStars Pro and world record VPP holder George Lind proves that it is possible to make serious money at the Sit and Go tables.

It has to be said, most of his action is in Hyper Turbo Sit and Go Satellites, so we might have to chalk some of this down to good variance too:

WCOOP latest

Tony G would be proud to hear that there was a win for Lithuania in WCOOP event #55, the $320 No Limit event. 1,526 players entered and 'RichieA7s' was the winner, taking a first prize of $67,857.80 after a deal heads-up.

The $530 No Limit rebuy event attracted 724 players, 656 rebuys and 584 add-ons. In the end a four way ICM deal was made, with '68ioweyou1' of Canada taking the title and $118,756.05 but 4th place finisher 'jpous' of Portugal collected the biggest prize of $123,581.48.

Finally the $215 Fixed Limit event brought home the second Canadian bracelet of the night, as 'CoooKay' beat 765 other players for the $28,222.30 top prize.

That fine showing from Canada put them in joint second place in the bracelet counts with the UK, both of whom boast nine each. Russia is still out in the lead, however, with 12 bracelets.

Douglas 'WCGRider' Polk is making his high stakes challenge with Ben 'Sauce1234' Sulsky look easy, winning around $170,751 on the day and furthering his lead to $488k after 8,804 hands.

The challenge is now past the halfway stage, and the winner after 15,000 hands is going to pocket a further $100,000 from the loser.
