World Series of Poker Main Event Day 1b
The most exciting event in the poker calendar is upon us - the World Series of Poker Main Event has now played out two of its three starting days with a total of 3,180 entrants so far. Day 1b took place last night with 2,114 players entering and 1,387 surviving to Day 2.
Those among the survivors include Shaun Deeb, Sammy Farha, Eugene Katchalov, Barry Greenstein and Liv Boeree, all with above-average stacks. Ones to watch are Vanessa Selbst, third in chips, and Daniel Negreanu, who just missed out on making the top ten.
Day 1c begins tonight and we'll have all the action as well as the details on prize pool and payouts for this year's Main Event tomorrow. Day 1c will need to attract 3,686 or more players to beat 2011's field size.

Doyle Brunson: "I'm not playing the Main Event"
One man who won't be making up the numbers on Day 1c of the WSOP Main Event is two-time Main Event champion and 10-time bracelet winner Doyle Brunson. The Godfather of Poker tweeted the following yesterday:
78-year-old Brunson had previously stated that tournaments were too exhausting for him, though we admire any almost-octogenarian who can compete in high stakes cash games for 70+ hours a week.
Notes from Nevada: Deeb's dry cleaning, Duhamel's second bracelet
Shaun Deeb seems to have taken a bad beat before the World Series of Poker Main Event even began. A trip to the launderette resulted in a loss of four figures after Deeb realised he had left some $5,000 chips in the pocket of his clothes.
The unnamed worker is currently in custody, according to Deeb's Twitter, after claiming that Deeb tipped him $5,000 for a $30 laundry bill - as Deeb's hashtag stated, he is #notthatballer
Meanwhile, Jonathan Duhamel is to be awarded his second WSOP bracelet - unfortunately, he didn't get it because he won another tournament but because his previous bracelet was stolen in a well-publicised assault and robbery (aftermath pictured right).
The World Series of Poker tweeted that Jonathan Duhamel will be awarded a new Main Event bracelet in the same ceremony that will see Antonio Esfandiari claim his Big One for One Drop bracelet.
Darvin Moon: "Jeffrey Pollack f***ed it all up"
2009 WSOP Main Event runner-up Darvin Moon has vented his anger at the actions of Epic Poker League head honcho Jeffrey Pollack and the resulting struggles of the Heartland Poker Tour.
"The whole [Heartland Poker Tour] crew were like a big family and Jeffrey had to go and f*** it all up for them. He's a douchebag but that's a part of life," Moon said in an interview.
The Epic Poker League purchased the Heartland Poker Tour before filing for bankruptcy, putting the future of the HPT in jeopardy before they were purchased by Pinnacle Entertainment last month.
