Daniel Dvoress conquers PLO Main Event for second title in Montenegro

The Canadian poker pro Daniel Dvoress became the first double event winner this series as he conquered the $100,000 Pot Limit Omaha Main Event in Montenegro after defeating Manuel Stojanovic heads-up.

The latest Triton Poker Series event in Montenegro was a big one. Costing $100,000 to enter, the Pot Limit Omaha Main Event had everything, including some of the best players in the world. Daniel Dvoress took it down and it was his second win of the series after he won the opening $25,000 NLHE Golden Decade event for $849,000. Less than a fortnight on, the Canadian’s latest victory was worth over $2 million after he saw off a late challenge from Austrian player Manuel Stojanovic.

There was a field of 76 entries in this latest Triton event in association with Coin Poker, and Dvoress wasn’t the favorite to see it out as champion when the final table was reached. With seven players left, Manuel Stojanovic of Austria had 116 big blinds, double anyone’s stack other than Mike Watson. The Canadian ended up busting in fifth place for $585,000.

After Patrik Antonius (4th for $726,000) and Danish player Martin Dam (3rd for $927,000, below) both busted, Dvoress had an almost 3:1 chip lead over Manuel Stojanovic. He made it count, getting over the Austrian’s initial fast start to put the hammer down, eventually winning with a flush to become a five-time Triton Poker Series champion, as Stojanovic won $1,402,000 as runner-up.

“I came into the final table being last and mentally I was preparing to think of techniques to try to ladder, try to like sneak in a pay-jump,” Dvoress said afterwards. “Then things turned around really quickly. I just feel really fortunate.”

Dvoress joins Watson in double victory in Montenegro

Dvoress has earned $2,867,000 across his two outright wins in this Triton Montenegro series. He’s not the only double winner, with Dvoress’ compatriot Mike Watson also claiming two titles. Winning Event #7, the $30,000-entry NLHE Turbo event for $659,000 then going on to win the $50,000 Turbo Bounty Quattro Event #11 for $621,000 including bounties, Watson’s own victories were worth $1.28 million.

Dvoress, though, is top dog in Montenegro as it stands. The Triton Montenegro series has been a huge success and built big fields in every single event. While the Canadian was wrapping up his win in the PLO Main Event for over $2 million, Matthias Eibinger was claiming another PLO crown, winning over a million dollars in the $50,000 PLO Mystery Bounty event.

With just a handful of events to go in the Triton Montenegro series, either Daniel Dvoress or Mike Watson could yet win a third title and in doing so move ever closer to the record-holder Jason Koon. Here are all the final table finishers from the Triton Montenegro $100,000 PLO Main Event.
