Dwyte Pilgrim Wins Largest WPT Event Ever

Dwyte Pilgrim managed to take down the WPT Borgata Poker Open, defeating the largest field in WPT history. For his accomplishments, he won a cash prize of $733,802.

The Borgata Poker Open saw a field of 1,042 players registering to play in the $3,300 + $200 event, making it the largest field in the history of the World Poker Tour. Thanks to this many entrants, the prize pool was a massive $3,335,442.

Dwyte Pilgrim (pictured right), holder of three WSOP Circuit rings and over $800,000 in career winnings, was the one to be crowned champion, after outlasting the six-handed final table on Thursday evening.

Dwyte Pilgrim's first major title

It took 41 levels of play for the winner to be revealed. Pilgrim met Kia Mohajeri in the heads-up phase and would eventually defeat him as well, taking down the first place prize.

In the final hand of the event, Pilgrim had Mohajeri covered, having around 18.5 million chips compared to his opponent's 13 million. The blinds were 300,000-600,000 with 75,000 ante and Mohajeri raised to 1.2 million, with Pilgrim making the call.

On a flop of , Pilgrim check-calls a 2,000,000 chip bet from Mohajeri. The turn brings the , Pilgrim bets 2,000,000 and Mohajeri goes all in, only to see Pilgrim insta-calling. Mohajeri shows for two pair, but that's no good against Pilgrim's for a flopped straight.

The river is the and Mohajeri's ride is over; he finishes in second place for $440,945. Dwyte Pilgrim becomes the WPT Borgata Poker Open champion and wins a cash prize of $733,802. Thanks to this win, Pilgrim's career winnings are now standing at over $1.5 million.
