EPT Paris cancelled

Weeks after the 2025 EPT schedule was announced the first event of the year has been called off in Paris.

Last month the European Poker Tour announced the schedule for the 2025 season, which kicked off with EPT Paris.

Just a few weeks later PokerStars was forced to announce that the festival had to be cancelled less than two months before it was set to take place.

The stop had only had two outings, most notably this year's event which saw Barny Boatman take it down for €1,287,800.

It was proving a popular destination, but a current political crisis in France has forced the EPT's hand.

December 31 will see the end of a regulatory gaming experiment which started in 2018 which legalised table games in Paris. It was expected the experiment would become the norm next year, but the French government has been deadlocked since Emmanuel Macron called a snap election in the summer, leaving the status of the poker clubs and their 1,500 employees up in the air.

This is a particular blow for the EPT who announced that just three of the five stops that took place this year would take place in 2025. EPT Cyprus and EPT Prague also look unlikely to happen, so currently the only confirmed festivals are Monte Carlo in May and Barcelona in August.

PokerStars have indicated they will try and reschedule the event for later in 2025.
