GTO Wizard Fair Play Check tool has already potentially caught alleged cheaters

A US player has potentially been banned after the Fair Play Check tool caught five real time hands being solved.





Last month, we brought you the news that GTO Wizard had introduced a Fair Play Check tool. The way it worked is if you suspect cheating at your table, you can see if another player has looked up the same flop and stack depths at the time the hand was played. 

It appears that the tool has already been put to good use. US high stakes MTT crusher Mike Holtz revealed he used it to report a player called Christopher Battenfield after five spots were found to be looked up in real-time.

Holtz told Poker.org that he reported this to WSOP.com and that the account has not been seen playing since, suggesting there might be some validity to the accusation. 

One player who might benefit from this is PokerGO commentator Jeff Platt, who recently came 2nd to Battenfield in a WSOP-C event. Should the allegations be true, we should find out when Platt receives the title, seat in the Tournament of Champions, and extra cash reimbursed to him, as per the WSOP.com policy. 

The fact that the GTO Wizard Fair Play Check is being used for its intended purpose so soon after its launch is clearly a positive. It does, however, bring up concerns about false positives. High stakes, in particular, have two issues where this is concerned. One is that the games get railed, and an observer could look up the spots while watching the action. Second, because the high-stakes community is small, there is an incentive to get good players banned.
