Hellmuth's Twitch channel hits 100,000 views
The Poker Brat may be winning over a few new fans, but wasn't so popular with Liv Boeree after an unfortunate slip up during yesterday's stream.
Only a few days on from the announcement that he'd be joining the Twitch frontier, and 14-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth's account on the streaming site has already hit 100,000 views.
The Poker Brat has been playing Pineapple - a form of Open Face Chinese poker - live from his study at home in California every day since his debut on Saturday, much to the delight of a rapidly growing audience.
His opponents on stream have included alleged multi-accounter Brian Hastings and investor Bill Lee, with stakes reaching $100 a point against the latter.
But although Pineapple is an interesting game to watch and the stakes are high, the main source of satisfaction for viewers derives from Hellmuth's natural ability to be entertaining.
He's constantly talking, interacting, sharing stories from his time in the game and generally bouncing off the walls - but there's also an incentive to see a bit more of the Phil Hellmuth talked about so fondly by those close to him, and substantially less of the bratty persona he's so often portrayed for himself in the public eye at the table.
Blushes for Boeree
While it's true that you see more of the real Phil on stream, it's also true that the real Phil likes to drop names; a fact made evident by events on yesterday's stream.
Mid-session he rang up fellow poker star Liv Boeree via FaceTime to include her in the show for a few minutes, but unfortunately for the EPT San Remo winner Hellmuth accidentally showed her mobile phone number to everyone watching.
Chaos naturally ensued, but Boeree handled the whole thing with her usual dose of grace, later returning to the stream to accept Hellmuth's apology and partake in a three-way conversation also featuring Daniel Negreanu.
As of yet there have been no further updates from Hellmuth as to how long his Pineapple bonanza will last, but there are more than a few out there hoping the icon will be keeping up his new hobby:
