L.A.Poker Classic Championship: Farkye Out, Ferguson Leading

The WPT L.A. Poker Classic has reached Day 4. and a total of 63 players sat down as
the plan was to decrease this number to the final 18 after five levels
of play. First 10 minutes of the day went in furious pace,
double-elimination, triple-elimination, it all looked as if the field
would really come down to 18 as planned.

Things kept moving
quickly up to the fourth level when the deep-stack structure of the
tournament slowed down the play by a huge margin. At that point, 30
players have already left the tables, including David Pham, Matt Brady,
Nenad Medic, Erica Schoenberg, Men Nguyen and other known players.

The tournament staff decided to add a sixth level of play in order to
get the field down to the desired size. Action stirred up during this
stage as some heavy encounters occured, including the largest hand of
the tournament between Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Kofi Farkye.

Kofi Farkye raised to 24,000 and Chris Ferguson re-raised to 76,000. Farkye called and the flop came . Both players checked and the action continued with on the turn. Farkye bet 120,000 but Ferguson only called this time. The river brought and Farkye moved all-in for 600,000. Ferguson was 376,000 behind but made the call.

Farkye turned over for a small pair and Ferguson showed
for a top pair, top kicker, thus grabbing the pot and the chip lead
with 1.184 million. Kofi Farkye was in the lead for a long time but
shortly after this hand he saw his fall and finished in 31st place.

Several other notable players got knocked out during this stage,
including Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Paul Wasicka and Nancy Todd
Tyner. The remaining players will return to decide who will sit down at the final table of six.
