Maria Lampropulos wins partypoker MILLIONS Main Event

The first ever partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Main Event concluded last night with a memorable first champion.

1240 players entered the £5,000 Main Event at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham and it was Maria Lampropulos of Greece who emerged the first ever champion and winner of £1 million. 

If that name is familiar to you, we featured her earlier this year in our Poker's Power Couples feature, after her and her boyfriend remarkably got heads-up in the Eureka Rozvadov Main Event.  

She came 2nd in that event but went one better this time to become the first ever champion of the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS. A win which could be historic if this series becomes widely considered a Grand Slam event, which many believe it will. 

Her heads-up opponent Jacob Mulhern bagged not only £650,000 but a further £100,000 for being the last online qualifier standing. 

Lampropulos has also, obviously, become the first female champion of this new series, at a final table that also featured Katie Swift. It probably shouldn't need mentioning, but it took 14 seasons for the World Poker Tour to achieve the same. She commented after the match:

I am proud of that obviously. It’s wonderful. Every woman here supported me. When everyone chanted, I felt so emotional. They were all cheering and smiling because they feel ‘OK, I can do it too.’

The next partypoker MILLIONS Main Event takes place next month in Canada at the PlayGround Poker Club.
