PokerStars Launches ANZPT

PokerStars, one of the largest poker platforms in the world, has announced that it will expand its poker tours to two more countries. Starting with February, Australia and New Zealand players will be able to participate in the ANZPT.

Not long ago, PokerStars announced they will be adding a new tour
designed for the players of Australia and New Zealand. With tournaments
like the Aussie Millions or the APPT Auckland, there certainly is a
demand for poker in the southern emisphere, which is where PokerStars
comes in.

The Australia New Zealand Poker Tour, or ANZPT, will start on the 4th
of February, when the Adelaide event kicks off. This first event has a
$3,000 buy-in and it lasts until the 7th of February, with qualifiers
already running.

The format for the ANZPT will be league-based, meaning that a
leaderboard system will be set up and the players will get a specific
amount of points, according to their finishing position in each
tournament. Also, this first season si scheduled to last until July
this year.

The tournament spokesman, Danny McDonald, said: "Following the
success of the second season of the APPT earlier this year, we are
excited to be expanding poker further throughout this region. The
ANZPT will provide Australian and New Zealand poker players with a
professionally executed tour in their own backyard".

Nightly freerolls from Monday to Saturday will take place on PokerStars
each week in the lead up to the February kick off, with the top 20
players qualifying for a Sunday evening final. The winner of each
Sunday final will receive a package to ANZPT Adelaide. The package is
worth $4,500 and it is made of the $3,000 direct buy-in, 5 nights
accommodation at the Hyatt Hotel
in Adelaide, as well as all other travel expenses.
